Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For January 16, 2017 The number of spoiled childish Blue Representatives who have announced they are boycotting the Inauguration of President-elect Trump following the idiotic position of John Lewis has now grown to 30—what about a celebration of a peaceful transition of power do these idiots not understand?; the quid pro quo supermarket aka the Clinton Global Initiative is laying off staff as donations are drying up in the wake of criminal allegations and HRC’s loss (hopefully the outrageous Clinton speech machine will see its business evaporate also); finally a sense of hope for sanity on immigration as a bill was introduced into the House that would eliminate any foreign aid to countries that refuse to accept illegal aliens from those countries after they have committed crimes in the U.S.; on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day news that BLM activists are seeking to rewrite King’s legacy of peaceful protest to that of radical extremism (not really what we need as we face a problem of healing the divisions which many claim are a result of Obama’s failed policies); Noor Salman the wife of the Orlando Pulse Club mass murderer has been arrested by the FBI in conjunction with the killings; in Chicago through the 15th 139 people, mostly blacks have been shot mostly by blacks with 24 of them dying.
As always, I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, a music link to Phil Collins, factoids of interest for this day in history, an observation on education and Prohibition by Will Rogers, looking forward to having problems and issues that are not Pantagruelian, blessed with a positive attitude and secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1. Do Nothing Day—an unevent first proposed by columnist Harold Coffin in 1972 and added to Chase’s Calendar of Events in 1973 to give Americans one day in the year to celebrate, honor or observe nothing.
2. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day—celebrating the accomplishments of Martin Luther King, Jr. whose unifying messages are needed more so than ever today as the list of Blue House members boycotting the inauguration continues to grow each day, now reaching 30 (a pathetic partisan childish spoiled grapes act).
3. Number One Song in 1989—celebrating the number 1 song in 1989 on a run of 2 weeks in that position “Two Hearts” by Phil Collins. Here is a link to him performing the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SidxJz94Svs
4. Word of the Day—the word of the day is “Pantagruelian” which means huge or enormous and unfortunately describes the many problems President-elect Trump will face upon assuming office on Friday.
5. Heroin Chic—celebrating the birth on this day in 1974 of British super model Kate Moss who started modeling at the age of 12 with her very thin body known for the “heroin chic” look.
On this day in:
1. 1786 Virginia enacted the Statute for Religious Freedom which became the foundation for our First Amendment and was penned by Thomas Jefferson.
2. 1919 the U.S. ratified the 18th Amendment requiring that the failed experiment Prohibition be put in place on the first anniversary of its ratification.
3. 1979 abandoned by the U.S. the Shah and his family fled Iran, never to return, leaving a vacuum that was quickly filled by the Ayatollah Khomeini and his radical Islamic followers.
4. 2001 in a better late than never moment, President Bill Clinton posthumously awarded Theodore Roosevelt the Congressional Medal of Honor for his service in the Spanish-American War.
5. 2003 the Space Shuttle Columbia took off in what would prove to be its last mission as it disintegrated on reentry into the Earth’s atmosphere 16 days later due to a puncture from a piece of insulation foam striking the leading edge of its wing.
Reflections from a humorist view on Prohibition and how to reduce student debt: ”Instead of giving money to found colleges to promote learning, why don't they pass a constitutional amendment prohibiting anybody from learning anything? If it works as good as the Prohibition one did, why, in five years we would have the smartest race of people on earth.” Will Rogers Given the PC nonsense and fear of microaggression that has infected college campuses these days, it is easy to agree with Will Rogers!
