September 11 History Patriot Day

          1. Patriot Day—commemorating since 2001 the terrorist attacks on 911 on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon and the failed attack on the White House due to the bravery and courage of the passengers of highjacked Flight 93 over the skies of Pennsylvania and honoring the almost 3,000 innocents that were killed on that fateful day.            2. National 401(k) Day—celebrating since 1996 on the first Friday after Labor Day the importance of 401(k) plans as a means of saving toward retirement; hope your 401(k) is not being hit with roller coaster rides of volatility.

            4.  National Hot Cross Buns Day—celebrating a sweet yeast bun spiced with currants, nutmeg and cinnamon and decorated on top with a cross made of icing.

            5. Red Lines Wasted In The Sand Day—bemoaning the  birthday on this day in 1965 of Bashar Assad, a brutal dictator of Syria who succeeded his father and who has killed over 300,000 Syrians and who has called Obama’s feckless red line in the sand bluff with the use of chemical weapons against his own people and who is now receiving support from Putin and Iran.                                                                         On this day in:                                           

            a. 1565 in a win for the Christians, Ottoman forces withdraw from the Great Siege of Malta.

         b. 1893 in a blow for religious freedom and tolerance the Parliament of the World’s Religions convened in Chicago highlighted by Swami Vivekananda’s speech on fanaticism, tolerance and truth inherent in all religions.   

            c. 1941 ground was broken for the construction of the Pentagon which was attacked by a hijacked airline 60 years later. 

           d. 1972 the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) commenced operations to the joy of commuters stuck in terrible traffic jams on the Oakland Bay Bridge.

            e. 2012 in a glaring asleep at the switch moment at the State Department headed by Hillary Clinton, radical Islamists attacked the U.S. Consulate in  Benghazi, Libya, killing four Americans.

Reflection on the attacks on 911: “If we learn nothing else from this tragedy, we learned that life is too short and there is no time for hate.” Sandy Dahl, wife of the pilot of Flight 93 killed on Flight 93. She is right there is no time for hate which merely interferes with the planning and execution of a strategy that either causes radical Islamists like ISIS and al Qaeda to either reject terror or be exterminated from the human race.
