Ridley’s Believe It Or Not January 30, 2021
CV World Cases: The CV pandemic across the planet continues the new year with surging cases now over 103 million at 103,072,832 with 461,177 new cases (a .26% increase) 26,154,797 of which are active, 76,918,035 closed with 74,687,478 recoveries (97.10% and 97.10% yesterday) and 2,226,564 deaths (2.89% and 2.89% yesterday) to continue the trend of increased cases with increased recovery percentages and decreased death percentages with some plateaus.
CV USA Cases: Total cases now over 26 million at 26,635,116 with 119,808 new cases (a .45% increase) with 9,888,082 active cases of which 24,935 (.25% of active cases and a decrease now of 4,336 from a peak of 29,271 on December 31) are in serious or critical condition, 16,747,034 closures, 449,918 of which have been deaths (2.69% and 2.69% yesterday) and 16,297,116 of which have been recoveries (97.31% and 97.31% yesterday). Our death rate percentage continues to improve and after many months is now .20% lower than the world rate and .08% lower than Canada which has the socialized type medicine Biden may well want to implement here and on a deaths per million population measurement on a steady climb to 1355 ranks behind Belgium (1809), UK (1550) which had passed us despite leading world in testing), and Italy (1461) and only slightly worse than Bulgaria (1305), Hungary (1292), Spain (1247), Peru (1224), Mexico (1207), France (1161), Sweden (1144) that never closed its economy down like we did but has recently been experiencing a rapid rise deaths, Portugal (1196) Switzerland (1078), Argentina (1051), Brazil (1049), Poland (980), Chile (955), and Bolivia (874) and we have now conducted 310,287,057 tests (now at 934,234/M) compared to Russia at 695,344/M) as we are conducting more tests in number and on a per capital basis for all nations (other than those nations that contain small populations like Bahrain, Denmark, Israel, Malta, Singapore and UAE) other than the U.K. which remains off the testing charts with tests at 1,052,637/M.
US Vaccinations: In the U.S. as of 1/30/2021 30.5 million doses have been given, 1.26 million per day in the last week. In California 3,266,914 total doses have been given but typical of Newsom’s ineptness and the power of growing signatures on his recall petition, California has slightly improved is now at 38th out of 50 in terms of the percentage of doses administered as a percentage of doses delivered to the state (57.7% only .3% ahead of 39th Florida (57.4%) and 10.0% ahead of last place Kansas. A long way to go to get herd immunity but some improvement relative to other states but still a good reason to recall this inept governor. As of 1/29/2021 in California we have reduced hospitalizations to 16,581 COVID-19 patients hospitalized occupying 29.7% of all hospital beds.
Non CV Case News: It involved only 80 vaccinations but the outcry over GITMO terrorist detainees being vaccinated while NYC 1st responders in 9/11 still waiting in line went through the roof causing the Pentagon to halt its GITMO vaccination plan; in what is probably an opening salvo against Bic Pen Biden and his executive orders in his war on fossil fuels, Rep. Crenshaw has introduced a bill to protect oil and gas leases in the Gulf which Biden wants to ban for a year (not sure if the Botox Witch of the West will ever allow the bill to reach the floor but at least the lines in the sand are being drawn for 2022); given the years of the Biden family members trying to profit due to Biden’s position as Vice President, should come as no surprise that Harris’ niece who like all good liberals flew to the inauguration of her aunt in a private plane owned by a Biden donor is pedal to metal to push her book and other business deals while Harris’ stepdaughter Ella Emhoff was just signed on to a modeling contract with IMG Models (remember all the flack over Ivanka’s clothing line—safe bet on these two women’s business ventures on the sounds of silence

Lynch of Massachusetts after receiving the second shot of the Pfizer vaccine tested positive for the virus and is asymptomatic and in self quarantine; Biden is warning of darker days due to the pandemic that is going to get worse and for inept, “not my fault” Andrew Cuomo that warning is in spades as another nursing home Dry Harbor which is reeling with an pandemic outbreak with 44 residents and 11 staffers testing positive since December 22, is hit with a scandal of not giving a temporary patient 66 years old a vaccine who then was moved to a hospital and died from COVID-19; the recall Gavin Newsom movement continues to gather signatures over 1.2 million and enhanced by his failed policies the latest of which is the disaster or a vaccine rollout, ranking 38th in terms of the percentage of vaccines received actually administered and is fortunately moving forward to the required goal of 1.5 million signatures. https://recallgavin2020.com/petition/
Chicago/Baltimore Gun Violence: HeyJackass.com is back to show that through January 29, 2021, gun violence involving persons of color shooting persons of color in Chicago is alive and well with 238 persons shot of whom 49 have died.

1. School Day of Nonviolence and Peace—created by poet Llorenc Vidal Vidal this day in 1964 and influenced by the teaching of Gandhi to promote nonviolence as part of the school curriculum.
2. National Croissants Day—celebrating that crescent shaped pastry which is the great delicious way to compliment a breakfast.
3. 2000 Number One Song—the number 1 song in 2000 on this day with a run of 3 weeks in that position was “I Knew I Loved You” by Savage Garden to join 17 other number 1 songs. Savage Garden was an Australian duo of Darren Hayes and Daniel Jones formed in 1994 and after success disbanded in 2001 with Hayes pursuing a solo career and Jones leaving the music business to pursue a real estate career. Here is a recording of Savage Garden performing “I knew I Loved You”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjnmICxvoVY
4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “purpresture” which means to encroach on public property which is what many restaurants had to do with city approval in order to survive with outdoor dining only.
5. To Exit Doing What You Love—celebrating the birth on this day in 1878 of noted Estonian author A.H. Tammsaare who read 6 foreign languages and wrote all his work out in long hand and died not from the Soviet’s reoccupation of Estonia but at his desk with a pen in hand.
On this day in:
a. 1945 in the deadliest marine disaster in history largely unpublicized to this day, the German liner Wilhelm Gustloff, loaded with some 10,000 refugees, wounded soldiers and military personnel fleeing the Red Army advancing on Prussia was hit by 3 torpedoes from a Soviet submarine and sank in one hour with only some 500 survivors.
b. 1968 in a we never saw this coming moment, the Tet Offensive was launched by the Viet Cong and North Vietnamese forces against the South Vietnamese, Americans and allies ending up with a decimation of the Viet Cong but a political nail in the coffin of the support of the Vietnam War and the belief that we were winning.
c. 1975 National Monitor Marine Sanctuary, the first of eventually 16 marine sanctuaries was established at the site of the sinking of the USS Monitor Cape Hatteras on December 30, 1862 while under tow with 16 of the 62 crewmen being lost.
d. 1981 Richard Skrenta wrote the first virus for Apple II computers, a 400 line boot virus named “Elk Cloner.” He went on to found several internet companies which were acquired by public companies.
e. 1995 hydroxycarbamide became the first preventative treatment for sickle cell disease to the joy of the Afro-American community.
Reflections on the Tet Offensive: "WE WON THE TET OFFENSIVE. We decimated the Viet Cong. And our wonderful press made us losers. It was right at that point in time, I think, that the press fully turned on the war in Vietnam and started not necessarily generating news, but generating opinions. Because WE DECIMATED THE VIET CONG during Tet. We decimated the North Vietnamese Army during Tet. Had we pressed the advantage the turnout would have been different. But when you are fighting a war based on politics, stuff happens." Congressional Medal of Honor Winner and Sgt. in the First Cavalry Division.
