CV World Cases: The CV pandemic across the planet continues the new year with surging cases nearing 95 million at 94,949,867 with 665,798 new cases (a .71% increase and .80% yesterday) 25,145,611 of which are active, 69,804,256 closed with 67,773,336 recoveries (97.09% and 97.09% yesterday) and 2,030,920, deaths (2.91% and 2.91% yesterday) to continue the trend of increased cases with increased recovery percentages and decreased death percentages with some plateaus.
CV USA Cases: Total cases now over 23 million at 24,306,043 with 203,614 new cases (a .84% increase and 1.07% yesterday) with 9,557,138 active cases of which 28,850 (.31% of active cases and a decrease now of 421 from a peak of 29,271 on December 31) are in serious or critical condition 14,748,905 closures, 405,261 of which have been deaths (2.75% and 2.75% yesterday) and 14,343,644 of which have been recoveries (97.25% and 97.25% yesterday). Our death rate percentage continues to improve and after many months is now .16% lower than the world rate and .10% lower than Canada which has the socialized type medicine Biden may well want to implement here and on a deaths per million population measurement on a steady climb to 1220 ranks behind Belgium (1752), Italy (1354), UK (1301) which had passed us despite leading world in testing), and Bulgaria (1225), and only slightly worse than Peru (1164), Hungary (1168), Spain (1140), Mexico (1082), France (1073), Sweden (1019) that never closed its economy down like we did but has recently been experiencing a rapid rise in deaths including a 14/M increase on the 15th and 35/M increase on the 14th, Switzerland (998), Argentina (997), Brazil (981), Chile (908) that we recently passed, Bolivia (816) and Ecuador (805) and we have now conducted 1,943,241 more tests to bring the total to 283,753,126 (now at 854,521/M compared to Russia at 659,049/M so Trump was telling truth that we conduct more tests in number and on a per capital basis for nations (other than those nations that contain small populations like Bahrain, Denmark, Israel, Malta, Singapore and UAE) but for the U.K. which remains off the testing charts with tests at 927,419/M.
Non CV Case News: Biden’s perceived open border rhetoric to no one’s surprise has a Honduran caravan of more than 1000 has crossed into Guatemala on Friday heading north to our border, expecting to be let in per Biden’s commitment; Harris is touting Biden’s plan to offer a path to citizenship for the low estimate of 13 million illegals living in this country and immigration rights groups are demanding a meeting with Biden to insure he keeps his border promises (floodgates to citizenship and a mostly porous border will not be humane to vast millions of low income blacks, Hispanics and white rather it will be an economic disaster); Nancy Pelosi has a new item to add to her to do list—check her gourmet ice cream freezer to make sure there is not ice cream there from Tianjin Daqiaodao Food Company as news report indicates that a large shipment of its ice cream in China has been contaminated by the COVID-19 virus; while NASA’s hot test of the rocket for its Space Launch System that will put astronauts on the Moon in 2024 had to be shut down after 1 minuted into a 8 minute scheduled test, SpaceX has successfully launched into orbit in its first launch of 2021, a communications satellite for Turkey, first computer driven cars with no humans, now the FAA has approved a commercial drone from American Robotics, Inc. with no human operator on site (when will all truck drivers become obsolete and where will we find the jobs to replace them?); Bill Maher, a rabid anti-Trumper profoundly indicated that you cannot lump 74 million Trump voters into acts of the rioters storming the Capitol; on the anniversary of the first Super Bowl it is perhaps fitting that Green Bay Packers beat the L.A. Rams and will play the winner of the Tom Brady –Drew Brees match up on Sunday for the NFC Championship and slot in the Super Bowl; Newsom’s vaccine rollout continues to be a disaster only trumped in terms of magnitude and pain of the unemployment claims fiasco and the fraud being perpetrated on the system by prisoners with California an epicenter of new cases and deaths but fortunately the recall petition for Gruesome Newsom has now surpassed 1,000,000 signatures and only needs 500,000 more to put the recall Newsom petition on the ballot: https://recallgavin2020.com/petition/
Chicago/Baltimore Gun Violence: In the new-year gun violence is unchecked primarily with shooters of color shooting and killing victims of color but it looks like my data site Hey Jackass.com has now been blocked from giving out daily data.

4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “psychrolusia” which means bathing in cold water which is fine for a Polar Bear Plunge on New Year’s Day but a bit on the weird side if done more often.
5. American Dream Started with a Hot Dog---celebrating the birth on this day in 1917 of noted entrepreneur Carl Karcher who with his wife went into business with a hot dog stand on July 17, 1941 with $311 borrowed on their auto and $15 from his wife’s purse and over time expanded to some 300 restaurants before going public in 1981 but Karcher experienced a fate often suffered by entrepreneurs after going public—getting into disagreements with board members on direction and strategy to be forced out by his board in 1993. An active philanthropist in Orange County for many years, he died from complications of Parkinson ’s disease on January 11, 2008 at age 90.
On this day in:
a. 1942 TWA Flight 3 on a flight from New York City to Burbank with 4 stops after taking off from the 4th stop Las Vegas shortly crashed into a mountain due to pilot error, killing all 22 aboard including Hollywood Star Carole Lombard.
b. 1969 Soviet Spacecraft Soyuz 4 and Soyuz 5 became the first spacecraft to dock together in space, transfer crews and for the only time perform such transfer with a space walk from one spacecraft to another.
c. 1991 one day after the deadline for withdrawal of Iraqi forces had expired coalition forces began bombing, in the first of over 100,000 sorties into Iraq, Iraqi military forces, installations and communications.
e. 2020 the first impeachment on a partisan vote of President Trump went before the Senate for trial which later acquitted him.
Reflections on the loss of Columbia: "The Columbia is lost. There are no survivors. ...
