January 15, 2021 Ridley's Beleive It Or Not Wikipedia Day

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not January 15, 2021

CV World Cases: The CV pandemic across the planet continues the new year with  surging cases over 94 million at 94,284,069 with 750,354 new cases (a .80% increase and .82% yesterday)  24,949,262 of  which  are active, 69,341,800 closed with 67,325,168 recoveries (97.09% and 97.09% yesterday) and 2,016,632, deaths (2.91% and 2.91% yesterday) to continue the trend of increased cases with increased recovery  percentages and decreased death percentages with some plateaus.

CV USA Cases: Total cases now over 23 million at 24,102,429 with 254,019 new cases (a 1.07% increase and .98% yesterday)  with 9,471,604 active cases of which 28,937 (.31% of active cases and a decrease now of 334 from a peak of 29,271 on December 31) are in serious or critical condition 14,630,825 closures,  401,856 of which have been deaths (2.75% and 2.74% yesterday) and 14,228,969 of which have been recoveries (97.25% and 97.26% yesterday). Our death rate percentage continues to improve and after many months is now .16% lower than the world rate and .11% lower than Canada which has the socialized type medicine Biden may well want to implement here  and on a deaths per million population measurement on a steady climb to 1210 ranks behind Belgium (1747, Italy (1346),  UK (1282) which had passed us despite leading world in testing), and Bulgaria (1222), and only slightly worse than Peru (1167), Hungary (1159), Spain (1140), France (1070),  Mexico (1064),  Sweden (1019) that never closed its economy down like we did but has recently been experiencing a rapid rise in deaths including a 14/M increase today and 35/M increase yesterday, Argentina (996), Switzerland (995), Brazil (976), Chile (901) that we recently passed, Bolivia (810) and  Ecuador (802) and we have now conducted 2,337,059 more tests to bring the total to 281,809,885 (now at 848,683/M compared to Russia at 654,936/M so Trump was telling truth that we conduct more tests in number and on a per capital basis for nations (other than those nations that contain small populations like Bahrain, Denmark,  Israel, Malta, Singapore and UAE) but for the U.K. which remains off the testing charts with tests at 927,432/M.

Non CV Case News: This poet has always abhorred boycotts of people or products and services because one disagrees with the political opinions of the owner in question on the shutdown of Parler by Social Medias and the Washington Post’s support of that move, 75 million Americans should rise up as one over this heinous assault on the First Amendment and boycott Amazon owned by Bezos who owns the Washington Post and withdraw support of any company that places ads with the Washington Post ( the storming of the Capitol by few Antifa like thugs as a threat to our democracy is a dwarfed by the Iron Curtain of censorship launched by Social Media Giants that have grown too large with too much monopolistic power; AOC is grabbing the spotlight blaming Facebook for not doing enough to censor communications among the rioters who stormed the Capitol (do not be surprised if conservative posts and tweets under the excuse of “hate speech”, promoting racism or white supremacy  will become endangered species in 2021); the U.S. for years has been victimized by birth tourists of pregnant aliens coming to the country not to visit to give birth and have their child be an American citizen and now states like Florida are facing an influx of vaccine tourists from out of state coming to Florida and taking advantage of the priority to vaccinate those over 65; the NRA has filed for bankruptcy and is leaving the state for friendlier 2nd Amendment open arms of Florida; in another example of the attack on free speech, Lt. Governor of Pennsylvania Fetterman was ranting that protesting election results was “hate speech” and therefore not protected by the First Amendment (refreshing that his view was actually dumped on); being a resident of NYC is a dangerous, harrowing task which will be made more so if State Assemblyman Johnathan Jacobson’s banning law abiding citizens from owning  or wearing a bullet proof vest (brave words from a hack politician who probably has access to armed guards so he is safe; Cathy Couric who is scheduled to be a guest host on Jeopardy has shed any pretense of being objective as a journalist and is pushing for the ideas that Republicans who supported Trump need to be “reprogrammed” (aka brainwashed);  ; Newsom’s vaccine rollout continues to be a disaster only trumped in terms of magnitude and pain of the unemployment claims fiasco and the fraud being perpetrated on the system by prisoners with California an epicenter of new cases and deaths but fortunately the recall petition for Gruesome Newsom has now surpassed 1,000,000 signatures and only needs 500,000 more to put the recall Newsom petition on the ballot: https://recallgavin2020.com/petition/

Chicago/Baltimore Gun Violence: In the new-year gun violence is unchecked primarily with shooters of color shooting and killing victims of color but it looks like my data site Hey Jackass.com has now been blocked from giving out daily data.

          5. Is the Dream Now a Nightmare?---celebrating the birth on this day in 1929 of Martin Luther King, JR. one of the true icons of the Civil Rights Movement with his preaching of nonviolence and a dream of judging people by the content of their character as opposed to the color of their skin.

On this day in:

a. 1967 the first Super Bowl was played in the Coliseum in Los Angeles with the Green Bay Packers defeating the Kansas City Chiefs 35-10.

          b. 1991 the deadline imposed by the UN for withdrawal of Iraqi forces expired, authorizing the use of force under Desert Storm to evict them.

c. 2009 US Airways Flight 1549 an Airbus A320 2 minutes after takeoff for La Guardia Airport had both engines shut down after sucking in flights of birds but Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger and Copilot Jeffrey Skiles were able to turn the plane around and glide to a perfect landing on the Hudson River with no casualties, an  event forever to be known as the “Miracle on the Hudson.”

d. 2015 the Swiss Central Bank removed the cap on the Swiss Franc relative to the Euro, causing major turmoil in international financial markets.

         e. 2019 UK Prime Minister Theresa Mae suffered the largest Parliament margin of defeat in English history when the MPs in Parliament voted 202 in favor and 432 opposed to her Brexit withdrawal plan which was the writing on the wall for her resignation which occurred after further Brexit rejections on  July 24.

Reflections on the Miracle of the Hudson to everyday life: “People had been losing their jobs in large numbers. Home foreclosures were up. Life savings had been decimated. A lot of people felt like they had been hit by a double bird strike in their own lives. But Flight 1549 had shown people that there are always further actions you can take. There are ways out of the tightest spots. We as individuals, and as a society, can find them.”― Chesley B. Sullenberger, Sully:My Search for What Really Matters
