June 4, 2020 Ridley's Believe It Or Not Memorial of the 1989 Tiananmen Square Protests

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For June 4, 2020 The CV pandemic across the planet continues with 117,793  new cases  (a 1.8%  increase compared to a 1.96% increase yesterday) to bring the total to 6,649,165 cases, 3,051,278  of  which  are active,  3,597,887 of which have been closed with 3,207,368 recoveries (88.15% compared to  yesterday’s 88.98%) and 385,375    deaths (10.85% compared to yesterday’s 11.02%); in the U.S. which has the dubious distinction of leading the world in total cases with new cases of 15,441  have brought total cases to 1,913,426 (a .81% increase compared to yesterday’s 2.82% increase)  with 1,110,247   active cases of which 16,977 (16,921 yesterday) are in serious or critical condition and 803,179  closures, 109,723 of which have been deaths (13.66% compared to  yesterday’s 14.33%) and 693,456 of which  have been recoveries (86.34%  compared to yesterday’s 85.56%) (our death rate percentages continue to improve since Cuomo repealed his order sending CV positive patients on May 10 but remain higher than the world probably due to idiots like Cuomo sending positive CV patients into nursing homes to infect the residents and staff who then die) with 19,382,148 tests; in a like father like son moment, Jeremiah Ellison City Council President and son of AG Ellison is calling for the dismantling of the Minneapolis Police Department (time to buy weapons in his city and everyone will have to be like in the Wild West in the 19th Century and be packing for protection; in another example of the leftist tilt of the MSM, 700 minutes of airtime was allocated to protesters and 5 minutes to riot deaths;  in a wheel of justice moves slowly but moves moment, Chauvin’s charges have been upgraded to 2nd degree murder and the other 3 officers have been charged with aiding and abetting 2nd degree murder and 2nd degree manslaughter (if convicted and not shivved while in prison may die of natural causes and not be released); a memorial service was held in Minneapolis for George Floyd with Reverend Al Sharpton delivering the eulogy and call for an end to racial injustice and berating President Trump for his response to the riots (time to keep fingers crossed that the memorial service does not reignite riots again throughout the nation); Obama in a viral town hall called on George Floyd protesters to push for social change and perhaps borrowing a page from Maxine Waters playbook of “get in their face,” urging them “to make people in power feel uncomfortable”; too many people seem to believe that the police are not human beings also and we should not be surprised that dozens of Louisville officers walked out on Blue  Mayor Erick Fischer due to feeling a lack of support and respect from the Mayor’s Office; the riots and looting in Santa Monica on Sunday were devastating to the businesses looted to the empty shelf but a powerful look into the future of what we face if the left gets its way and defunds the police; Di Blasio appeared at the George Floyd Memorial Service in NYC but was booed off the stage as attendees shouted for him to resign; in Chicago, as of June 2, 2020, 1243 shootings ( 15 in one day increase) of whom 230 (only 5 in one day increase) have died (so much for the effectiveness of Chicago’s stay at home order); Baltimore with a fraction of Chicago’s population and hoping against all hopes that 2020 will not be a record in terms of deaths is now  97 behind Chicago with 133 murders (when will Chicago and Baltimore get serious about this carnage or is this the case of true racism as a Blue run city turns a deaf ear and a blind eye to the slaughter of people of color by people of color and when will the left focus on the problem of color on color shootings in Blue run cities which have been more deadly and more numerous than random mass shootings?).
As always, I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, factoids of interest for this day in history,  a musical link to Bing Crosby, the fact that you do not own a pallinaise, and a quote by Hubert Karliner on his voyage on the SS St. Louissecure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like Father’s Day, college graduations, birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1. International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression--—created by the UN General Assembly on August 19, 1982 to commemorate the deaths and injuries to children caused by Israel’s invasion of Lebanon and to promote the need to protect and shield children from injuries and death caused by aggression.
2. Memorial of the 1989 Tiananmen Square Protests—observing the ruthless violent crackdown on Tiananmen Square protests by the Chinese government when it showed its true face on June 4, 1989 by killing large numbers of peaceful protesters in Tiananmen Square and represents a preview of what will most likely happen in Hong Kong when the Communist Party’s patience runs out.
3. 1944 Number One Song— the number 1 song in 1944 on this day on a run of 5 weeks in the position was “I Love You” by Bing Crosby. Here is a recording of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VB9sMyo9AV8The Crooner wowed motion picture and listening audiences right up to his death when this avid 13 handicap golfer playing golf in Spain after recording some songs in Britain collapsed after his foursome headed for the clubhouse and died on October 14, 1977 of a massive heart attack.
4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “pallinaise” which means a straw mattress which is something you would never find at a Fit ‘n Sleep store.
5. A Good Role Model Portrait Not Drew--celebrating the birth on this day in 1932 of noted actor John Drew Barrymore, the father of actress Drew Barrymore, who sabotaged a brilliant career with drugs and alcohol and dropped out of performing in the 70’s and died of cancer on November 26, 2004 at the age of 72.
 On this day in:
 a. 1939 in one of our darker days of humanity, the U.S. denied the right of the SS St. Louis, carrying 963 Jewish refugees fleeing from Nazi Germany to disembark its passengers in Florida after being refused admission to Cuba, which condemned more than 200 of the passengers to later deaths in Nazi concentration camps.
 b. 1961 months before the East Germans erected the infamous Berlin Wall, Soviet Premier Khrushchev meeting with Kennedy in Vienna declared the Soviets would sign a separate peace treaty with East Germany to end access of American, British and French troops into East Berlin.
 c. 1975 Governor Jerry Brown signed into law the Agricultural Labor Relations Act, becoming the first state to grant collective bargaining rights to farm workers.
 d. 1986 Johnathan Pollard pled guilty to violations of the Espionage Act by delivering classified top secret material to Israel and was later sentenced to life imprisonment and released on parole on November 20, 2015.
 e. 2010 in what proved to be the first step of private enterprise sending men into orbit Space X launched a Falcon 9 rocket into a low Earth orbit which ended when it disintegrated on reentry into the Earth’s atmosphere on June 27, 2010.
Reflections on the voyage of the SS St. Louis from a passenger on the ill-fated voyage:  “I remember it very well and I saw Miami Beach, and believe me when I tell you this, I was so impressed, I said ‘Someday, I would like to live here.’ I made it, but my parents and my sisters didn’t make it.” Herbert Karliner, a 12 year old at the time who was allowed to disembark in France and who escaped German detection during World War II to migrate to the U.S.
