June 11. 2020 Ridley's Believe It Or Not Jacques Cousteau Day

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For June 11, 2020 The CV pandemic across the planet continues with 236,252    new cases  (a 3.23 % increase compared to a 1.05% increase yesterday) to bring the total to 7,547,776  cases, 3,301,369   of  which  are active, 4,246,407  of which have been closed with 3,824,705 recoveries (90.1% compared to  yesterday’s 89.71%) and 421,702  deaths (9.93% compared to yesterday’s 10.29%); in the U.S. which has the dubious distinction of leading the world in total cases with new cases of 37,081 have brought total cases to 2,082,630  (a 1.81% increase compared to yesterday’s 1.27% increase)  with 1,155,429  active cases of which 16,792 (16,952 yesterday) are in serious or critical condition and  927,201 closures, 115,811 of which have been deaths (12.49% compared to  yesterday’s 12.64%) and 811,390  of which  have been recoveries (87.51%  compared to yesterday’s 87.36%) (our death rate percentages continue to improve since Cuomo repealed his order sending CV positive patients on May 10 but remain higher than the world probably due to idiots like Cuomo sending positive CV patients into nursing homes to infect the residents and staff who then die and hopefully the number of cases will not spike given the days of massive protests and riots over George Floyd’s death) with 23,073,473 tests; the 26 year old scum bag, Mason Lira, who put a bullet into Nicolas Dreyfus’ head, has been captured after wounding 4 officers who will join the list of 600 officers injured after Floyd’s death; Seattle police are being urged by law enforcement experts to end the anarchists’ seizure of a 6 block zone surrounding Seattle’s City Hall  as reports are coming out that armed occupiers are extorting businesses in the area now known as CHAZ (in example of how left the NYT has moved, the paper is praising CHAZ as a “homeland for racial justice”); Governor Inslee of Washington has been mocked rightfully so that he was ignorant of the creation of CHAZ (doubtful but at least he can hide behind the fact that the MSM is downplaying the anarchists’ seizure); the market totally tanked today with news of the spike in new CV cases even though the jury is out whether the spike is due to opening up the economy or the massive protests without any social distancing that swept the nation following the death of George Floyd at the hands of 4 Minneapolis police officers; in another example of the PC World gone amok Grammy winning band Lady Antebellum has changed its name to Lady A; in  another example of the PC police running wild, Live PD TV series has been cancelled not because of ratings but because of the anti-police rhetoric sweeping this land; Trump has indicated executive orders will be forthcoming on improving health among minorities, education by promoting more charter schools and promoting better use of force standards but drew a line in the sand over weakening police forces (dominate the streets but dominate with compassion); wheels of justice on what many are calling a coup attempt by Comey and his lackeys as the Senate Intel Committee is moving forward to issue a large number of subpoenas for Obama administration appointees on the Russian “collusion” probe; in Chicago (the poster city of why we need more police not less and certainly not defunded), as of June 10, 2020, 1341 shootings of whom 244 have died (so much for the effectiveness of Chicago’s stay at home order); Baltimore with a fraction of Chicago’s population and hoping against all hopes that 2020 will not be a record in terms of deaths but now seems to be shooting less and killing less and is now  101 behind Chicago with 143 murders (when will Chicago and Baltimore get serious about this carnage or is this the case of true racism as a Blue run city turns a deaf ear and a blind eye to the slaughter of people of color by people of color and when will the left focus on the problem of color on color shootings in Blue run cities which have been more deadly and more numerous than random mass shootings?).
As always, I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, factoids of interest for this day in history,  a musical link to Les Paul and Mary Ford,  the fact that you love to look for those panduriform shaped ferns coming out of the ground in the early spring, and a quote by Herman Cain on the Civil Rights Act of 1964, secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like Father’s Day, college graduations, birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.

2. King Kamehameha Day—celebrated in Hawaii to honor the Hawaiian monarch who ruled from 1792 until his death in 1819 and brought under his rule all the Hawaiian Islands in 1810.
3. 1951 Number One Song— the number 1 song in 1951 on this day on a run of 9 weeks in the position was “How High the Moon”  by Les Paul and Mary Ford. Here is a recording of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NkGf1GHAxhE. Paul was born in 1915 and this noted guitarist is one of the few artists to have a permanent exhibit in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and with a larger pick was able to extend his career for many years, winning a Grammy at the age of 90 but in an all good things must end sometime, his guitar strings were broken permanently by pneumonia on August 12, 2009.  Mary Ford who was 9 years older than Paul married him and divorced him in 1964 and failed in her struggle with alcoholism and died on September 30, 1977 never having come out of an 8 week coma.
4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “panduriform” which means fiddle shaped which describes the top of many ferns first coming out of the ground.
5. The Second Punch Can Be Deadlier Than the First--celebrating the birth on this day in 1937 Ramon Lee Cramton better known to his fans as Chad Everett and perhaps best known as Doctor Joe Gannon on the long running CBS series Medical Center who slipped into heavy drinking in the 70’s and 80’s but finally got sober in 1986 only to later succumb to lung cancer on July 24, 2012.
 On this day in:

 c. 1998 Compaq Computer Corporation acquired Digital Equipment Corporation in the largest high tech acquisition to date until surpassed by Hewlett Packard’s acquisition of Compaq for $25 billion.
 d. 2002 in a halfway moment better than none, the House of Representatives but not  the Senate by resolution acknowledged Antonio Meucci as the inventor of the telephone.
 e. 2018 3 World Trade Center officially opened.
Reflections on the Civil Rights Act of 1964; “The Democrats co-opted the credit for the Civil Rights Act of 1964. But if you go back and look at the history, a larger percentage of Republicans voted for that than did Democrats. But a Democrat president signed it, so they co-opted credit for having passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.” Herman Cain, Republican African-American seeking the Republican presidential nomination who was hit with allegations of sexual abuse vehemently denied by him but forced to suspend his candidacy in December, 2011.
