Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For August 20, 2019 Stacey Abrams
infamous for her refusal to concede defeat has stock her foot in her mouth with
her false claim that the RNC will be intimidating black Blue voters;the illegal
alien supporter queen, Kamala Harris, has seen her numbers dive down to 5%,
tied with Mayor Pete as gaffer Joe without a full deck may not be doomed to a
primary defeat; the all you need is love candidate Williamson has announced
plans for a Department of Peace (good luck trying to sell that to our allies
and intimidate our foes!); Biden is unleashing his first TV commercial
attacking Trump as a vicious bully and claiming his 8 years with Obama were
years Americans could be proud of (Uranium One, Fast and Furious, weaponizing the
IRS against conservatives, abysmal economic performance to mention but a few
failures); Oregon is looking in to investigating journalists who are contacting
elected and appointed officials on their person email and phones after hours
while investigating alleged improprieties;
the former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is ripping the Blues for
advocating open borders and Medicare for all as Reds hope the numerous
wanna-bes are not listening so they can go down in flames next November; Angela
Rye should be making the Cack News Network proud as she spewed her bias and
hate against white men who had the audacity to clam that Tlaib and Omar have hijacked
the Blues from Pelosi and therefore are dangerous terrorists (what a crock but
so typical of the death of discourse coming from CNN’s lap dogs); Stallone with
his iconic Rocky and Rambo seems to have found the fountain
of youth released the trailer for another and final Rambo; NYC and three more states have filed law suits trying to block
Trump administration rules banning green cards to legal immigrants who seek
public assistance (shades of rules at Ellis Island that barred admission to
those who could not support themselves); the once beautiful city by the bay is
awash in drugs and feces with homelessness up 30% with city and state officials
with their heads buried in the sand; in Chicago through August 19, 2019, 1774
have been shot of whom 294 have died and in Baltimore with a fraction of
Chicago’s population, 217 have been
murdered in Baltimore ( when will Chicago get serious about this carnage or is
this the case of true racism as a Blue run city turns a deaf ear and a blind
eye to the slaughter of people of color by people of color?)
As always,
I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, a music link to Brandy
and Monica, factoids of interest for this day in history, the fact that
you do not use platitudes and a relevant quote from Ronald Ross on mosquito
transmission of malaria, secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any
memorable events like Father’s Day, college graduations, birthdays, weddings,
or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a
unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the
recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1. World Mosquito Day—commemorating Doctor Sir Ronald Ross’ discovery that malaria is
transmitted to humans by female mosquitoes.
2. International Day of Medical Transporters—created by the Royal
Army Medical Corps to commemorate the work of field ambulances during World War
I bringing wounded soldiers from the front to medical treatment facilities in
the rear and now applying to both civilian and military transport of sick and
injured.
3. 1998 Number One Song— the number one song in 1998 on a run of 13 weeks in that
position was “The Boy Is Mine” by Brandy and Monica. Here is a recording of
the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jBmkCoiHC2c
4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “platitude” which is a commonplace
or trite remark uttered as if it were important and describes most of what we
hear from politicians to a tee.
5. Playing Notes Trumps Counting Beans—celebrating the
birth of singer and songwriter Robert Plant of the band Led Zeppelin on this
day in 1948 who left the profession of accounting to become an iconic musician
and is still going strong in a solo career.
On this day in:
a. 1940
Leon Trotsky in Mexico City was attacked by Ramon Mercader, a communist and NKVD agent with
an ice axe and dies the next day; his killer was caught, tried and sentenced to
20 years and was released to Cuba where he died on October 18, 1978.
b. 1986 at a
U.S. Post Office facility in Edmond, Oklahoma, Edward Sherrill shot 20 of his
co-workers, killing 14 before killing himself resulting in the adoption of the
phrase “going postal.”
c. 1988 after 8 years of war a cease
fire was signed in the Iraq-Iran War.
d. 1998 the U.S. launched cruise
missile attacks against Al-Qaeda camps in Afghanistan and chemical weapons
plant in Sudan in retaliation for bombing attacks at American Embassies in
Kenya and Tanzinia.
e. 2002 a group of Iraqis opposed to
the regime of Saddam Hussein seized the Iraqi Embassy in Berlin and occupied it
for five hours before surrendering.
Reflections on mosquitoes
and malaria: “I have failed in finding parasites in mosquitoes fed on malaria
patients, but perhaps I am not using the proper kind of mosquito.” » Ronald
Ross, doctor who discovered the transmittal of malaria by mosquitoes.
