Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For August 15, 2019 The Coast Guard
Cutter may have a small sounding sized name but it floats tall when it comes to
drug interdiction as the USS Midgett floats tall by seizing 4,600
pounds of cocaine; the shooting in the misnamed Nicetown neighborhood of
Philadelphia has ended with a career criminal Maurice Hill surrendering to
police who given his prior convictions should never have been out of prison
(you can take it to the bank that Hill obtained his gun illegally raising for
the illegal aliens supporter queen pathetic pitch for her gun control program
while shots were being fired of just exactly how with an emphasis of why
neighbors viewing the scene were yelling and taunting police); Israel has
banned two anti-Semites Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib from entering Israel to
spew their rabid anti-Semite and anti-Israel hate, a move predictably assailed
by Pelosi and Blues and praised by Trump and Reds; in the Blue Race of the 4
Horsemen Biden is still number one stuck at 31% with Warren off the reservation
climbing to 2nd at 20%, Sanders down to 10% and the illegal alien
supporter Queen Harris still stuck in 4th at 8% (like the leaves in
fall falling, watch for Blues to start to join Hickenlooper by dropping out if
they cannot make the debate stage in September); Lemon must be feeling the sour
taste of consequences as the former boss of the bartender who accused Lemon of
inappropriate sexual behavior has come out to corroborate the incident (how
does it feel Lemon to be in a Kavanaugh like hot seat on an event alleged to
have just occurred); Dr. Marc Siegel, a frequent contributor on Fox has
indicated that the broken neck bones are more consistent with a homicide than a
suicide and slammed the medical staff for taking Epstein off a suicide watch
after only 6 days (from a life of luxury and perversion to a life of prison
knowing that most cons do not take kindly to pedophiles would make most people
suicidal and give up); in Chicago through August 14, 2019, 1726 people mostly
of color have been shot by mostly people of color, 287 of whom have died but
none in the last two days, a fraction of those dead from murders in
Cape Town, South Africa but barely leading the 213 murdered in Baltimore (when
will Chicago get serious about this carnage or is this the case of true racism
as a Blue run city turns a deaf ear and a blind eye to the slaughter of people
of color by people of color?)
As always,
I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, a music link to Lisa
Loeb and Nine Stories, factoids of interest for this day in history, the
fact that you can exercise planation when the situation requires it and a
relevant quote from Rick Perlstein and Woodstock, secure
in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events
like Father’s Day, college graduations, birthdays, weddings,
or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a
unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the
recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1. I Love Cowboys and Cowgirls Day—celebrating a
unique part of our heritage as a nation that flourished in the 19th
Century with cattle drives bring cattle to market in the Midwest to feed the
hungry denizens of the East. Not sure where this day came from but to celebrate
wear a cowboy hat and some boats and go to a barbecue restaurant without
packing.
2. National Failures Day—honoring the failures
all risk takers must experience and learn from them as it is a rare success
that imparts useful lessons only failures that require the abeyance of ego and
finger pointing replaced by acceptance and analysis of one’s role in the
failure and how best to avoid repetition in the future.
3. 1994 Number One Song— the number one
song in 1994 on a run of 3 weeks in that position was “Stay (I Missed You)”
by Lisa Loeb and Nine Stories. Here is a recording video of her singing the
song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_dNS70UJlRg This
noted singer was the first recording singer to have a number one hit song
without a recording song and is still active today and still winning Grammy
Awards.
4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “planation”
which means making level which is what Trump is trying with little help from
the Blues to make the field of international commerce.
5. Life Can Imitate Music—celebrating the birth
on this day in 1985 of noted rapper Ermias Joseph Asghedom who was better known
to his fans as Nipsey Hussle who in addition to his rapping became and
community activist and entrepreneur but whose life was cut down outside his
clothing store by 10 bullets on March 31, 2019 allegedly by a suspect who was
known to him over an apparent personal matter.
On this day in:
On this day in:
a. 1963
Henry John Burnett had the dubious distinction of being the last man hanged in
Scotland for killing his victim on May 31, 1963, being caught the same day and
tried and found guilty shortly thereafter and hanged on August15, 1963.
b. 1969 the
Woodstock Music and Art Fair opened in Woodstock in upstate New York featuring
the top bands and performers of the era.
c. 1971 President Nixon completed
the end of the Gold Standard by ending the practice of foreign currencies being
convertible into gold.
d. 1973 the clandestine bombing of
North Vietnamese targets in Cambodia came to an end.
e. 1995 Shannon Faulkner after a
lengthy court battle became the first woman to matriculate into the Citadel in
South Carolina only to withdrew due to physical stress and abuse by male cadets
less than one week later.
Reflections
on Woodstock and the 60’s: “There's a lot of surplus rage from the '60s
that was never really worked through publicly. I think a lot of that rage still
exists, and I think you see that when John McCain runs a commercial that beats
up on Hillary Clinton's earmark for a Woodstock museum. Rick Perlstein, noted author
born several weeks after Woodstock to become an author and chronicler of conservatism
and the 60’s.
