Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For September 3, 2018 On the MS-13
gang front the NYPD arrested Julio Ayala a MS-13 gang member for raping an 11
year old in her bedroom at home in Brooklyn (do not know if he is an illegal
alien as he was carrying a Green Card which may or may not be authentic), a
federal probe of murder and drug trafficking has resulted in the arrest of 18
MS-13 members in Mendota, California and a grand jury indicted 5 MS-13 gang
members who are facing life in prison for an armed robbery in Dallas; in
California Democrats are fleeing from Eric Bauman, the head of California’s
Democratic Party for his call to boycott In-N-Out for its donating $25,000 to
the Republican Party (just another example of how poisoned our political
environment has become and why someone like John McCain will be really missed);
Roseanne admitted she regrets apologizing to the left for her comments about
Valerie Jaffe as the left “does not accept apologies”; at least 10 people have
been shot in a San Bernardino apartment complex with 3 in critical condition
while 6 teens were shot, one of whom has
life threatening injuries at a teen party in Birmingham, Alabama; David
Petraeus has slammed the VA for failing to provide medical care for vets
exposed to pollutants from burning pits located on their bases in Iraq (the VA
remains a complete bureaucratic cesspool); in Chicago while Rahm Emanuel
continues to imitate Nero playing the
fiddle and Chicago’s top cop lays the blame directly on prosecutors and lenient
judges not sending armed thugs to jail, through September 1, 2018, 2084 people
mostly of color have been shot by mostly people of color, of whom 334 have died
(when will Chicago get serious about this carnage or is this the case of true
racism as a Blue run city turns a deaf ear and a blind eye to the slaughter of
mostly people of color by mostly people of color and when will Emanuel who has
been MIA resign or be voted out of office).
As always,
I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, a music link to the Bee
Gees, factoids of interest for this day in history, the fact that you will
not have to listen to a lot of mumbo-jumbo, and a relevant quote from Peter
Jennings on who usually wins an election, secure
in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events
like college graduations, birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know
that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a
great price tailored to the event and the recipient. You need only contact
me for details.
1. Labor Day—celebrating the contribution of labor
to the nation’s economy and welfare; Oregon was the first state to declare the
day a public holiday in 1887 and when it became a federal holiday in 1894 30
states had approved it as a public holiday.
2. Skyscraper Day—celebrating the contributions of
skyscrapers to our urban commerce which became possible with the invention of
the elevator first installed in the Houghwout Department Store in New York City
and the invention of the Bessemer process in the 1860’s which enabled the mass
production of steel which is much stronger than iron and enabled taller and
taller buildings.
3. 1976 Number One Song— the number one song in 1976 on
a run of 1 week in that position was “You Should Be Dancing” by the Bee
Gees. Here is a recording of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0TgzCx0GzSg
4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “mumbo-jumbo”
which means utter nonsense which describes what we normally hear from
politicians and bureaucrats.
5. Meltdown On the Set—bemoaning or celebrating the birth on
this day in 1965 of Charlie Sheen who starred in Platoon and The Wolf of Wall
Street and the series Two and a Half Men
but has battled drug and addiction problems and announced that he is HIV
positive.
On this
day in:
a. 301
San Marino one of the smallest nations on Earth and the oldest republic was
founded by Saint Marinus.

American built rigid airship crashed over Ohio due to a squall line, killing 14

e. 2017

Bad news for Republicans? “The candidate out front
on Labor Day has historically been the one who stayed ahead in November.” Peter
Jennings anchor of ABC’s World News for 22 years but a heavy smoker who died of
lung cancer at the age of 67.
