Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For September 15, 2018 Hurricane
Florence has now become Tropical Storm Florence after leaving at least seven
dead and a million without power in its wake as it continues to drench the
Carolinas and the Southeast with massive amounts of rainfall and rising waters (stung
by criticism over federal responses in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria, Pentagon
is readying 9,700 troops to assist in
relief efforts); Paul Manafort who has plead guilty in a plea agreement with
the witch-hunter in chief and is cooperating with him as part of that agreement
may soon have company as Greg Craig, a lawyer with ties to Clinton and the
Obama administration may face charges for failing to register as a foreign
lobbyist for his dealings in the Ukraine; Fort Worth police officer Gordon Hull
shot in the head in a confrontation with armed robbery suspects has joined at least 55 other police officers
who have died in the line of duty this year; in a I can’t wait moment, Arnold
Nash, 65 years old and a convicted murderer scheduled for release on December
14 of this year has escaped from a Maine prison, prompting a warning to nearby
residents to be vigilant (which thanks to the 4th Amendment means
check to make sure your firearms are loaded and in good working condition); in
another nonassimilation moment a rare English speaking customer at a Hialeah,
Florida Taco Bell was refused service because she tried to order in English
(caught on video, that worker is no longer working at Taco Bell and if an
illegal immigrant a damning indictment of our porous border); on the diversity
at any cost in Lyon the Emile Cohl art school’s photo ad for the school some of
the students had been blackened to appear more diverse; Harrison Ford whose
carbon footprint rivals that of Al Gore lectured the audience about climate
change in San Fracisco and the need to elect people who believe in the science
of global warming (another definition of hypocrisy by a member of the Hollywood
elite); in Chicago, Emanuel’s announcement that he will not seek reelection has
not curbed the gun violence as through September 12, 2018, 2183 people mostly
of color including anti-gun violence activist Delmonte Johnson a teenage leader
of GoodKids Mad City gunned down on Wednesday while playing basketball, have
been shot by mostly people of color, of whom 353 have died (when will Chicago
get serious about this carnage or is this the case of true racism as a Blue run
city turns a deaf ear and a blind eye to the slaughter of mostly people of
color by mostly people of color).

1. International Day of Democracy—created
by the UN General Assembly in 2007 to promote the values and principle of
democracy which either do not exist in places like North Korea or are under
attack in places like Venezuela or Turkey.
2. World Lymphoma Awareness Day--created
by the Lymphoma Coalition in 2004 to create awareness of the symptoms and cures
for one of the fastest growing cancers in the world with 1,000 new cases daily.
3. 1986 Number One Song— the number one song in 1986 on

4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day as we move
from words beginning with “m” to words beginning with “n” is “nabilitic” which means churlish, vulgar or
uncivil which is what we hear from politicians on both sides of the aisle more
frequently but mostly on the left.
5. Cannibal for Jazz--celebrating the birth on this day in
1928 of Julian Adderley noted saxophonist best known to his fans as Cannonball
Adderley and to his childhood friends as Cannibal for his voracious appetite
but who played his last note at the far too early age of 46 from a stroke.
On this day in:
a. 1812
the French Army under Napoleon reached the Kremlin but instead of forcing the
Tsar to capitulate, the city was torched and the Russians fought on, causing
Napoleon to retreat in the cold of the Russian winter losing most of his army.
b. 1962
the Soviet ship Poltava carrying
medium range missiles headed for Cuba, one of the events that brought on the
Cuban Missile Crisis, an event that brought us closer to nuclear war than we
have ever been.
c. 1981
in a way the judicial confirmation process is supposed to work as opposed to
the theatrics from the left on the Kavanaugh hearings, the Senate Judiciary
Committee unanimously recommended the confirmation of Sandra Day O’Connor.
d. 2004
to the dismay of hockey fans here in the U.S. and Canada, the NHL locked the
players out and cancelled the entire season, the first time a professional sport
has had its season cancelled in its entirety due to a labor dispute.
e. 2008
Lehman Brothers filed for bankruptcy in the largest bankruptcy of all times
which plunged this country into a recession and paved the way for Obama to be
elected.
Reflections on lymphoma: “Life after cancer is what you make of it. You can
either focus on worrying or you can choose to embrace your second chance at
life and convert that energy to being proactive and living a full life. The
