September 6, 2017 Ridley's Believe It Or Not Still Birth Remembrance Day

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For September 6, 2017 Irma which is proving not to be sweet has become a Cat 5 monster bearing down on Florida that has declared a state of emergency and residents of Broward County have been ordered to evacuate; President Trump has reached across the aisle and struck a deal with the Blues for Harvey aid and funding for another three months to prevent a government shutdown over Ryan’s objections (McConnell and Ryan appear to be in a race with Schumer and Pelosi to see who can be more obstructionist against the Trump agenda); the wife of indicted IT staffer for Debbie Wasserman has agreed to return to the U.S. to face charges while Wasserman lamely tries to defend her retention of him on her payroll until he was arrested trying to flee the country; the View which is clueless on issues that Americans care about pounced all over Sarah Huckabee Sanders for working for Trump as Press Secretary; the it’s a video queen Susan Rice whose credibility is zero has met privately with the House Intel Committee over what is the real scandal and threat to our democracy that Mueller should be investigating—the unmasking of Trump advisors and supporters; Glenn Simpson the boss of Fusion GPS behind the false anti Trump dossier has stonewalled and is refusing to cooperate with the House while Mueller continues to chase windmills with the fantasy of the Russian collusion delusion; Hillary will be on the leech, money sucking book sales trail with the arrogant concept of charging people buying her book of delusions for her to sign it (good luck on that as only a fool other that a mental health professional looking for signs of mental illness would want to buy it);  through September 5, 2017 in Chicago the number of people being shot climbed to 2512, and the death toll again on the rise to 446.
As always, I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, a music link to Pee Wee Hunt and His Orchestra, factoids of interest for this day in history, a relevant quote on still birth by Charlotte Bronte, hoping your day is free from jolterheads,  secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1Barbie Doll Day—celebrating the 58th anniversary of the day that Mattel’s Barbie Doll went on sale; the doll was created by
Ruth Handler, with of one of the founders of Mattel, and named after her daughter Barbara Handler.
2. Stillbirth Remembrance Daycommemorating those unfortunate parents of the some 26,000 still births that occur each year in the United States. If a parent a day to be grateful and thankful that your child was not still born and to reach out with empathy and condolences to a friend who had the misfortune of experiencing that tragedy.
3. 1948 Number One Song— the number one song in 1948 on a run of 8 weeks in that position was “Twelfth Street Rag” by Pee Wee Hunt and His Orchestra. Here is a performance of the song:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l73jhrBHhaI
4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “jolterhead” which means a clumsy oaf.
5.  A Bridge Too Far—celebrating the birth on this day in 1962 of Chris Christie, failed presidential candidate in 2016 and soon to be the ex governor of New Jersey, whose political career was mortally damaged by the scandal known as Bridgegate.
On this day in:
a. 1642 England’s Long Parliament banned plays in all theaters.
b. 1870 in Laramie, Wyoming, Louisa Ann Swain became the first woman to legally cast a vote in a general election.
c. 1901 Leon Czolgosz, an unemployed anarchist (have you ever seen one employed?) fatally wounded President McKinley at the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, New York. In the 45 days following McKinley’s death 8 days later, Czolgosz was tried, found guilty and executed in the electric chair.
d. 1916 Clarence Saunders opened the first self-service grocery store, Piggly Wiggly in Memphis, Tennessee.
e. 1962 the U.S. began Exercise Spade Fork, a nuclear readiness drill which assumed 48 million civilian and military deaths following nuclear strikes on the homeland (given the threat posed by Kim Jong Un today one would hope that those plans have been updated and are ready to be instantly implemented).
Reflections on the grief and sorrow felt in the still birth of a child: “There is, I am convinced, no picture that conveys in all its dreadfulness, a vision of sorrow, despairing, remediless, supreme. If I could paint such a picture, the canvas would show only a woman looking down at her empty arms.-Charlotte Bronte, noted 19th Century British author and poet.    Please enjoy the poems on events of interest on my twitter account below (if you like them, retweet and follow me) and follow my blogs.
