Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For September 17, 2017 Hillary continues the blame game and on a PBS interview Friday boldly asserted that Bill’s secret meeting with Lynch did not have an adverse effect on her election demonstrates she is mired in delusion (if anyone believes this was a chance meeting the subject of which was too talk about golf and grandchildren, the person is just as delusional as she is; fortunately the attempt to hide the meeting from the American public failed as opposed the trove of emails on her private server that were destroyed probably most of which had nothing to do with personal matters but rather were about running the State Department as a quid pro quo expanded Lincoln Bedroom for her and the Foundation); in London British police have detained a second suspect in the London subway bombing; another night of peaceful protests over the acquittal of a former police officer in St. Louis which then turned violent as a small group of thugs starting vandalizing stores along the parade route, including many of owned by people who were handing out water and supporting the peaceful protest earlier with the result that dozens were arrested with police hoping for rain today to dampen planned protests; Michael Isaacson, an adjunct professor at John Jay College in New York who received infamous notoriety for tweeting it was an honor for him to teach future dead cops has been put on administrative leave; Sanders was on Meet the Press touting his plan for single payer health care, claiming it would save billions by cutting administrative costs (significant doubt on that) and making the ridiculous statement that patients in the VA were pleased with the care provided (what about the scandals at the VA over excessive wait times for an appointment with patients dying has he conveniently forgotten?); on the sports front in college football, exciting 2nd overtime win for SC over Texas, heartbreaking loss for Stanford’s next opponent UCLA to Memphis and a disappointing loss by Stanford in the last 58 seconds to SDSU highlighted by the Qualcomm stadium lights going dark for some 15 minutes near the end of the fourth quarter; President Trump will address the UN amid growing concerns that sanctions will not work and Kim will go to any lengths including starving his people to death to attain them to use as blackmail against South Korea and Japan based on his belief after dealing with Obama for 8 years that America would not preemptively intervene; on the weather front Hurricane Jose is heading in the general direction of Bermuda but many drift west exposing the East Coast to storm surge damage, in a weather version of Ground Hog Day Tropical Storm Maria soon to be a hurricane but looks exactly in terms of its path a repeat of Irma’s earlier days and could pound into Florida and Tropical Storm Lee looks like it will degrade to a tropical depression and get nowhere near the U.S. (if Jose and/or Maria replicate Irma in path with our $20+ trillion in national debt we are going to be a world of hurt trying to come up with funding to address the damage); on the inane anti-Trump front leave it to the left to dump all over 11 year old Frank Giaccio’s dream come true to mow the White House Lawn and have a surprise visit while doing so from the president and in a flood of tweets claim Trump was violating child labor laws (total ignorance of the Fair Labor Standards Act which includes lawn care as an allowable activity; through September 16, 2017 in Chicago the number of people being shot climbed to 2715 and the death toll again on the rise to 469 while the city seems to not be doing anything to prevent the killing and maiming of its minority residents—a real definition of racism which is deadly.

1. Constitution Day and Citizenship Day—created by Congress in 2004 to commemorate the formation and signing of the Constitution on this day in 1787 and to honor those immigrants who have become citizens of this nation.
2. National Wife Appreciation Day—observed on the third Sunday of September but really should be observed each and every day for as sure as the Sun will rise tomorrow, so true is the adage “Happy wife, happy life.”
3. 1959 Number One Song— the number one song in 1959 on a run of 4 weeks in that position was “Three Bells” by the Browns. 4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “katabasis” which means a retreat, especially a military retreat which is what we hope the forces of radical Islam will continue to experience.
5. A Cheatin’ Heart Prone to Be a Failing Heart—celebrating the birth on this day in 1923 of noted country and western singer and prolific songwriter Hiram Williams, better known to his fans as Hank Williams who unfortunately abused alcohol and morphine big time and died of a heart attack on January 1, 1953. a. 1849 abolitionist Harriet Tubman escaped from slavery and became a spy for the Union during the Civil War and was very active in freeing slaves and transporting them via the Underground Railroad to havens in the North.
b. 1862 after Union forces discovered Lee’s battle plans for his invasion of Maryland, the Union Army under General “Little Mac” stopped Lee’s forces in a one day battle at Antietam, the bloodiest one day battle in American military history and immortalized by photographs by Matthew Brady which brought the reality of the horror and bloodshed of the war to the domestic front.
c. 1914 the race to the sea by German and the Allies began which ended on October 19, 1914 with the Germans unable to prevent Allies from reaching the North Sea on the coast of Belgium which led to four years of trench warfare and thousands upon thousands of casualties on both sides.
d. 2001 the New York Stock Exchange which had not opened on Tuesday 9/11/ 2011 due to the attack on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon opened for trading, the longest period of time it had been closed since the Great Depression.
e. 2011 on the ten year anniversary of the NYSE reopening after being closed on 9/11 the Occupy Wall Street Movement began in Zuccotti Park, New York City.
