September 15, 2017 Ridley's Believe It Or Not International Day of Democracy

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For September 15, 2017 We wake up on Friday with the realization that the world is still a very dangerous place with another terrorist attack in London on its subway and news of another North Korean ICBM missile launch over Japan that travelled over 2,000 miles into the Pacific in a total “f* you” response to the UN’s latest sanctions (if China and Russia to not close their borders and terminate any trade with North Korea, the lesson we must send to Kim is that the possession of nukes is a guarantee that he will not survive and unless he and his family leave to be replaced by someone who disavows nuclear weapons selected by China, we will insure like Khadafi his death and preemptively by whatever means destroy his nuclear and ICBM facilities); kudos to Harvard for removing the ivy from its eyes and terminating the appointment of a felon traitor Chelsea Manning as a fellow and kudos for Morell to in protest immediately resign on his/her appointment (the whole episode is just another reason why parents should be on edge embarking on an expensive 4 year journey to send kids to a university that is totally out of touch with their values); kudos to UC Berkeley for showing some spine and beefing up security so Ben Shapiro could speak at ground zero for the Free Speech Movement and spending $600,000 so he could speak without being attacked by Antifa (time for the DOJ to target these anarchist thugs with the same furor that should be addressed to the KKK and other white supremacist hate groups); ESPN demonstrated a complete lack of spine by not firing Jamele Hill for her over the top and piss off the viewers who are most likely Trump supporters remark that Trump is a white supremacist surrounded by supremacists (Disney who acquired ESPN needs to review Marketing 101—don’t insult your viewers and get rid of this pathetic ideologue); on the total PC absurdity front the administration at Vista Del Lago High School in Folsom, California has warned students that chanting U-S-A at sporting events is not tolerated (the school board should fire the idiots in the administration who came up with this idea); Maduro the pathetic poster child of why socialism is a complete disaster (listen up Sanders) has as his people are starving and losing weight like dandruff suggested they eat their pet rabbits (time for a regime change?); the death toll from Irma in the U.S. stands at 39 as 1.5 million Floridians are without power in appalling heat and humidity; through September 13, 2017 in Chicago the number of people being shot climbed to 2680, and the death toll again on the rise to 460 while the city seems to not be doing anything to prevent the killing and maiming of its minority residents—a real definition of racism which is deadly.
As always, I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, a music link to Debbie Reynolds, factoids of interest for this day in history, a relevant quote on democracy by Winston Churchill, hoping you do not have to use the term kamerad in dealing with the problems you might face  but secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1International Day of Democracy—created by the UN in 2007 to promote the idea that democracy should be the ideal of all nations but unfortunately not followed in nations like North Korea and Cuba and fading fast in Maduro’s starving Venezuela.
2. World Lymphoma Awareness Dayobserved since 2004 to promote awareness of a disease that affects over a million people around the world and attacks 1,000 new victims each day.
3. 1957 Number One Song— the number one song in 1957 on a run of 3 weeks in that position was “Tammy” by Debbie Reynolds. Here is a performance of the song by her: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ew3mtNZFrMY Sadly this great talent and voice died shortly after the death of her daughter Carrie Fisher in 2016.
4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “kamerad” which means to surrender which is what all of us mere mortals would wish would happen to our politicians when confronted by the need for bipartisanship to break the gridlock affecting the Swamp.
5.  Fifth Soon To Be Sixth—celebrating the birth on this day in 1984 of Prince Harry the second son of Princess Diana and now fith in line to be the King of England but with news of Kate Middleton’s pregnancy soon to be sixth.
On this day in:
a. 1616 the first non-aristocratic free public school was opened in Frascati, Italy.
b. 1812 the French reached the Kremlin only to see Moscow abandoned but the Russian Army still intact which would force the French to abandon and begin the long and disastrous retreat out of Russia.
c. 1950 U.S. Marines in a daring maneuver land at Inchon to cut off invading North Korean forces attacking the Pusan Perimeter.
d. 1962 the Soviet ship Poltava carrying ballistic missiles headed toward Cuba setting off the Cuban Missile Crisis bringing the world to the closest it has ever been to nuclear war.
e. 2008 in a precursor to the collapse of the U.S. financial markets and guaranteeing the election of Barack Obama, Lehman Brothers filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy, the largest bankruptcy filing in U.S. history.
Reflections on why Waters World is so frightening and why are public schools are failing in educating their students: “The best argument against democracy is a five minute conversation with the average voter.” Winston Churchill but looking at voters’ lack of information on issues that affect their lives so true. Please enjoy the poems on events of interest on my twitter account below (if you like them, retweet and follow me) and follow my blogs.
