August 3, 2017 Ridley's Believe It Or Not National Guard Venzuela

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For August 3, 2017 Trump may have problems draining the Swamp but on the judiciary front with five confirmations he is ahead of Obama and Bush at the same time in their terms and his nominee for FBI Wray has been confirmed; McMasters has just fired another NSC adviser to strengthen his hand in the administration; Trump is proposing legal immigration based on a merit based system of bringing into the country immigrants with skills this country needs and who are better prepared to assimilate (Jim Acosta made a complete ass of himself showboating against Trump senior adviser Stephen Miller); after tooth and nail obstruction the Blues’ instinct for self preservation in November of 2018 has them scrambling to come to the table as the five insurers that service Idaho are seeking rate increases on average of 38%; Jared Kushner is under the microscope due to Kushner Construction’s aggressive marketing of the visas in exchange for investment in some its high end projects; Iran that continues to thumb its nose at the world community by testing missiles has announced the new sanctions that have been imposed on it violate the Iranian nuclear deal (watch for Iran to justify breaking the deal and pedal to the metal developing deliverable nukes);  Sanders at her press briefing read a letter to President Trump from a ten year old boy named Frank asking to mow the White House lawn (nice touch Sanders!); through August 2, 2017, 2218 people have been shot in Chicago 384 of whom have died but for two straight days in August no one has died--unbelievable!
As always, I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, a music link to Christina Aguilera, factoids of interest for this day in history, a relevant quote by Michael McCaul on espionage, wishing the fraud and abuse of the Swamp were not so irradicated,  secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1Anniversary of the Killing of Pidiguoti—commemorating, on a day when holidays and observances are far and few between, unless in Guinea-Bissau  of Portuguese colonial police opening fire on striking dock workers in the port of Biddau, killing some 50 strikers.
2. National Guard Day—if you are dumb enough to be in Maduro’s failed state of Venezuela you can celebrate the founding of its National Guard in 1936 hoping they do not celebrate by shooting protestors.
3. 1999 Number One Song—the number one song in 1999 on a long run of 5 weeks in that position was “Genie In A Bottle” by Christina Aguilera. Here is a performance by her of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kIDWgqDBNXA
4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “irradicate” which means to root deeply which is what the proclivity of government to want to always spend more since it’s not their money but ours.
5.  The Brady Bunch—celebrating the birth on this day in 1977 of Tom Brady whose Super Bowl rings five outnumber his three children.
On this day in:
a. 1778 La Scala Theater was inaugurated in Milan, Italy.
b. 1852 in the first intercollegiate athletic event, Harvard University defeated Yale in a rowing race.
c. 1859 the American Dental Association was founded at Niagara Falls, New York.
d. 1921 MLB Commissioner Kennesaw Mountain Landis confirmed the lifetime ban of 8 Chicago “Black Sox” players, including Shoeless Joe Jackson, from baseball after they had been acquitted of fixing the 1919 World Series in favor of the Cincinnati Reds.
e. 1948 Whittaker Chambers accused Alger Hiss of being a spy for the Soviet Union. Alger Hiss could not be tried for espionage as the statute of limitations had expired but he was convicted of perjury before Congress.
Reflections on espionage: “Because there are little to no consequences for conducting cyberattacks, criminals and nation-states are becoming bolder in their threats and behavior. Russia, China, North Korea and Iran are increasingly hacking into U.S. companies and government networks for espionage purposes or financial gain.
