October 4 History World Animal Day

          1. Beginning Of World Space Week—created by UN General Assembly on December 9, 1999 to celebrate the contributions of space exploration to the economies and well being of the world.
          2. World Animal Day—created in 1931 at a meeting of ecologists in Florence, Italy to promote awareness of actions needed to protect endangered species and to advocate animal welfare and rights.

          4.  National Taco Day/ National Vodka Day—celebrating a great Mexican dish although one would think that the libration to celebrate if alcohol if enjoying some tacos would be tequila.
           5.  Honor Marriage Day—celebrating the birthday on this day in 1923 of iconic film legend Charlton Heston who unlike many Hollywood celebrities was a conservative and remained married to his wife for 64 years right to the day of his death at age 84.

            b. 1927 Gutzon Borglum began sculpting Mount Rushmore which was completed in October, 1941 by his son following his father’s death.      
            c. 1957 in a historic event, Russia launched Sputnik I the first manmade object to orbit the Earth. 
            d. 1985 the Free Software Foundation was founded by Richard Stallman.
            e. 1988 TV evangelist Jim Bakker was indicted for fraud resulting in conviction and being incarcerated in a federal prison for 5 years.
Reflections on the Red Moon over the Earth: “Listen now for the sound that forever separates the old from the new” NBC radio announcer introducing a recording of the “chirp, chirp, chirp…” being transmitted to Earth by Sputnik I.
