On this day in:
            a. 1775 the King George III went before Parliament to declare that the American colonies were in rebellion and to seek authorization to employ military force to quell the rebellion.
            b. 1905 Sweden accepted the independence of Norway.
            c. 1940 the premier fighter plane of WWII, the P-51 Mustang, made its first flight to the ultimate dismay of the Luftwaffe pilots who would meet it and quickly die over the skies of Europe.
            d. 1984 Stephanie Beauclair (“Baby Fae”) received a transplanted heart from a baboon—sadly she died three weeks later.
            e. 2001 the Patriot Act was enacted into law.
Reflections on the Patriot Act: “Every American, regardless of their background, has the right to live free of unwarranted government intrusion. Repealing the worst provisions of the Patriot Act will reign in this gross abuse of power and restore to everyone our basic Constitutional rights.” Peter Stark
