October 30 History Mischief Night

         5. Queen for Life Day—celebrating the birthday on this day in 1939 of Grace Slick, noted female singer for the Jefferson Airplane and dubbed the Acid Queen for her psychedelic rock songs.
On this day in:                                           
         a. 1831 Nat Turner, an escaped slave and leader of the bloodiest slave rebellion in the United States was captured in Southampton County, Virginia. He was tried and hanged 12 days later.
         b. 1925 John Bogie Laird created Britain’s first television transmitter.                                   
         c. 1938 Orson Wells broadcast over the radio War of the Worlds creating panic among the audiences who listened to it and assumed the earth was being invaded by invaders from Mars.
         d. 1995 Quebec voters elected by a very narrow margin to remain a province of Canada.
         e. 2014 Sweden became the first nation in the European Union to recognize the state of Palestine.
