Great Land, Great Canvass Day—celebrating the birthday on this day in 1942 of the iconic American painter Bob Ross and former host of the Joy of Painting who spent 20 years in the U.S. Air Force before becoming a painter and was fortunate enough to be stationed at Elmendorf Air Force Base outside of Fairbanks and was exposed to the Alaskan landscape which became a recurring theme of his artistic style. Sadly, his brush was taken away from him at the age of 52 due to lymphoma.
