Ridley’s Believe It Or Not—August 22, 2015 Trust your weekend is proving to be a great one; as always I hope you enjoy Saturday’s holidays and observances,  factoids of interest, a music videos by Domenico Mudgno, a relevant quote by Buddha, looking forward to enjoying some juicy peaches, blessed with a positive attitude and secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable event like birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.
         1. Tooth Fairy Day—honoring the one concept that children believe in much longer than the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus probably because after placing a lost tooth under his or her pillow when she or he wakes up in the morning finds money and no tooth. Most children probably wish we were more like sharks that continually shed and replace their teeth. Not even lawyers have that ability.
2National Be An Angel Day—created by Jayne Howard Feldman in 1993 to promote random acts of kindness and to honor those who do.
         3. 1958 Number One Song—celebrating the number one song in 1958 on a run of five weeks in that position Volare by Domenico Mudgno.  Here is a link to Domenico Mudgno performing Volare:
         4. National Eat A Peach Day—great day to enjoy one of the summer’s great treats,  but don’t eat all of those in the fruit bowl as 24th is National Peach Pie Day.
5.What’s Cookin Good Lookin Day—celebrating a reason to enjoy Italian cooking by celebrating the birthday of Giada De Laurentis on this day in 1970 host of the Food Network. She is the granddaughter of noted film director Dino De Laurentis.
On this day in:
      a. 1851 the first America’s Cup was won by the yacht America.
      b. 1864 the First Geneva Convention governing the treatment of sick and wounded troops in the field was executed by twelve nations.
      c. 1952 the French penal colony on Devil’s Island was permanently closed.
    d.  1992 FBI sniper Lon Horuichi at Ruby Ridge shot and killed Vicki Weaver standing in the doorway of her house with her baby in her arms. Fortunately the baby was not hit but sadly the manslaughter charges against her killer were dismissed although the taxpayers ended up paying her survivors $3.1 million dollars to settle the ensuing wrongful death lawsuit.
        e. 2007 in a very bad day for pitchers, the Texas Rangers defeated the Baltimore Orioles 30-3, the most runs ever scored in a Major League Baseball game.
Reflections on angels: It is better to conquer yourself than to win a thousand battles. Then the victory is yours. It cannot be taken from you, not by angels or by demons, heaven or hell.” Buddha
How true is his observation and given the trend in expanding entitlements add government on the list of those who can take away one’s victories.
