       1. International Biodiesel Day—celebrating union of American agricultural productivity and technology to create fuels that are driving force to make America a net energy exporter to the ultimate dismay of Putin.

Is There Another Stanford Grad In Our Future?—as Carly Fiorino Stanford B.A.76 rocks in her quest for the Republican Presidential nomination, good day to celebrate the birthday on this day in 1874 of Herbert Hoover, noted Stanford grad, who was elected president in 1928 only to be hit by the Great Depression.

On this day in:                                           

       a. 1793 the Musee du Louvre opened in Paris; a visit there should be on everyone’s bucket list.  

       b. 1846 the U.S. Congress chartered the Smithsonian Institution after James Smithson donated $500,000. Like the Louvre, definitely a spot on one’s bucket list.

       c. 1948 Candid Camera made its television debut. 

       d. 1988 on the 43^rd anniversary of the surrender of Japan, President Ronald Reagan signed into law The Civil Rights Act of 1988 which provided for the payment of $20,000 to each Japanese-American who was interned or relocated in 1942 due to FDR’s infamous Executive Order in one of the darker stains on our history.   

       e. 1995 Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols were indicted for the Oklahoma City bombing which killed 168 people, including 17 children and three pregnant women, wounded hundreds and caused almost $700 million of damage. Fortunately Timothy McVeigh like so many terrorist fanatics was dumb enough to try to drive away in a car without license plates and was stopped within 90 minutes leaving the scene. 

Reflections on Oklahoma City Bombing, the worst homegrown terrorist attack we have ever suffered y: “There is no such thing as closure for people who lost family in the bombing. The only closure is when they close the lid on my casket."  --Darlene Welch, whose 4-year-old niece was killed, after McVeigh was sentenced to death.  After 20 years one can only pray that the suffering families have gotten some closure for their tragic and senseless loss.
