      2. Navy Day—celebrating the accomplishments of the U.S. Navy.
      3. Dylan Thomas Day—commemorating the birthday on this day in 1914 of Wales’ greatest poet who died way too early at the age of 39 from alcoholism.

On this day in
       a. 1964 Ronald Reagan launched his political career by delivering a speech in support of Barry Goldwater’s presidential campaign—great speech but LBJ won a landslide.
       b. 1981 in an “awesome” display of seamanship, Russian submarine U137 ran aground on the east coast of Sweden.
       c. 1988 President Reagan ordered our brand new embassy in Moscow to be demolished due Russian listening devices being embedded throughout the structure.
Reflections on Dylan Thomas:”An alcoholic is someone you don’t like who drinks as much as much as you do….I have just had 18 straight whiskies. I think that is record.” (spoken before going into a coma from which he never recovered) Dylan Thomas
