Ridley's Believe It Or Not November
3, 2020
CV World Cases: The
CV pandemic across the planet continues with 383,888 new
cases (a .81% increase compared to a .99% increase yesterday) to
bring the total over 47 million to 47,609,932, 12,189,187
of which are active, 35,420,035 of which have been closed
with 34,204,449 recoveries (96.56%
compared to yesterday’s 96.57%) and 1,215,586 deaths (3.43%
compared to yesterday’s 3.44%) to continue the trend of increased recovery
percentages and decreased mortality percentages.
CV USA Cases: New cases of 57,381 with
total cases over 9 million at 9,525,519 (a .61% increase compared to
yesterday’s 1.51% increase) with 3,170,519
active cases of which 17,595 (.55% of active cases), recently on a disturbing
upward trend with slight blips from a high of 19,155 on July 23 (17,267 yesterday
and 15,881 on September 1), are in serious or critical condition as trend has s hifted and may be continuing to
go up, and 6,412,381 closures, 237,261 of which have been deaths (3.70%
compared to yesterday’s 3.71%) and 6,175,120 of which have been
recoveries (96.30% compared to yesterday’s 96.29%) (our death rate
percentages continue to improve and are finally in single digits since
Cuomo repealed on May 10 his order sending CV positive patients to nursing
homes and ADL facilities and on a deaths per million population measurement at 715
ranks behind Peru (1044), Belgium (1011), Spain (780), Brazil (752), Chile
(747) Bolivia (745), and Ecuador (716), and
only slightly worse than Mexico (712), Argentina (698), UK (689), Italy (652),
and Sweden (590) that never closed its economy down like we did and we have now
conducted 1,154,241 more tests to bring total to 150,849,009 tests (now at 454,818/M compared to Russia at 424,874/M
so Trump is telling truth that we conduct more tests in number and on a per
capital basis for nations (other than those nations that contain small
populations like Bahrain, Denmark, Israel, Singapore and UAE) but
for the U.K. which remains off the testing charts at 509,265/M).
Non CV Case
News: After record amounts of money have been spent in the Presidential and
Congressional campaigns, millions are now voting to join the millions who have
already early voted as both Biden and Trump may be in for a long night with
Trump leading in several Rust Belt States that will put him over 270 Electoral
College votes (if Biden wins he will bask in
the CV vaccines Trump’s warp speed brought to fruition unfortunately for
him not before the election); Trump is heavily favored by one group Americans living
in Israel but sadly for Trump there are not a great number of them; in something out a financial “Them” movie, the
Chinese financial company Ant Financial which was planning to go public in a
$38 billion IPO and list on the Shanghai Stock Exchange has had its offering abruptly
pulled; SCOTUS is hearing oral arguments on the constitutionality of a
Mississippi court’s ruling that sentenced a 15 year old murderer to life
without possibility of parole; although she has not conceded defeat as some
million votes remain to be counted the race for the Arizona Senate seat has
been called in foavor of her opponent. Chicago/Baltimore Gun Violence: In
Chicago as of November 1, 2020, the number of shootings increased
to 3,588 of whom 614 have died (total travesty of BLM when blacks are shot and
killed by blacks in droves and only sounds of silence and complete absence of
any protests in front of City Hall demanding action to curb the killings and
shootings); Baltimore with a fraction of Chicago’s population and hoping
against all hopes that 2020 will not be a record in terms of deaths but now
seems to be shooting less and killing less and is now 337 behind Chicago at 277
murders (when will Chicago and Baltimore get serious about this carnage or is
this the case of true racism as a Blue run city turns a deaf ear and a blind
eye to the slaughter of people of color by people of color and when will the
left focus on the problem of color on color shootings in Blue run cities which have been way more deadly and way
more numerous than shootings by police
or by random mass shootings which occur far much less.
As always, I
hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, factoids of interest for
this day in history, a musical link to “Crank That Soulija Boy” by Soulija

Johnson on the Greensboro Massacre, secure

1. National Sandwich
Day—celebrating that great snack favored by Americans, the sandwich
believed to be invented by John Montagu, the Earl of Sandwich, in 1662 during
one of his long extended gambling card games he did not want to interrupt by
taking time out to eat so had his cook put a slice of meat between 2 slices of
bread.
2. National Jellyfish Day—hard
to believe this observance exists as this former seiner rued the day when the
seine had few salmon but a ton of stinging jellyfish that made fishing
miserable but in addition to being an ingredient for Prevagen which is a brain
supplement, rumor has it that some fish
actually dine on them.
3. 2007 Number One Song— the
number 1 song in 2007 on a run of 7 weeks not continuous was “Crank That
(Soulija Boy)” by Soulija Boy Tell ‘Em to join 6 other songs that made the number 1 list for the first time and 16 other songs
that made the top list. Here is a recording of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UFIYGkROII&ab_channel=SouljaBoyTellemVEVO
This rapper, born in 1990 in Chicago hit the airways in 2007 and survived a
armed home invasion robbery on December 31, 2008 to keep his rapping going
strong.
4. Word
of the Day—today’s word of
the day is “poppycock” which means humbug or nonsense which describes to a tee
what we encounter from the Swamp usually.
5. Good
Times Up In Smoke—celebrating the birthday on this day in 1949 of
noted actor Michael Evans, best known for his role as Lionel Jefferson in All in the Family and The Jeffersons and who created Good Times but who was a heavy smoker
who developed throat cancer and died from it tongue less and broke on December
14, 2006.
On this day in:
a. 1868 Republican
African American John Willis Menard from Louisiana had the dubious distinction
of being the first African American elected to Congress only to have the loser
challenge the election and since neither person before the House could achieve a majority vote, the seat
remained vacant and he never was admitted elections.
b. 1957 the
Soviets launched a stray mongrel dog named Laika into space to become the first
animal to orbit the Earth and since the technology had not been developed to
reenter satellites from space, she died shortly into that orbit.
c. 1969 as support for
the Vietnam declined, President Nixon went on national TV to ask the “silent
majority” of Americans to support his policies in South Vietnam.
d. 1979 in Greensboro, North
Carolina, 5 members of the Communist Workers Party and shot and killed and 7
others are wounded by Klansmen and Neo-Nazis in a shoot out at a Death to the
Klan Rally. In the two criminal trials that followed, in the state trial for
murder 5 Klansmen and American Nazi Party defendants were acquitted and in the
subsequent federal civil rights violations trial of 9 defendants, all were also
acquitted.
e. 2014 One World Trade Center
officially opened to replace the World Trade Center Twin Towers destroyed by
the jihadist attacks on 9/11.
Reflections on the Death to the Klan March
that became the Greensboro Massacre: “"It was almost a signal for people
to dismount out of their cars, and that's actually where the conflict started. Klansmen
took out guns from their trunks of their cars and simply shot people. It’s not easy
to look at friends shot down in the street. The slogan was 'Death to the Klan.'
I think that was a big mistake. When you apologize, you need to say what you're
apologizing for. They regret that it happened. Well, we all regret that it
happened.I think this has become all too common in the nation where people kill
each other and then give some explanation for it.” Nelson Johnson, the
organizer of the Death to the Klan March.
