Ridley's Believe It Or Not November 20, 2020
CV World Cases: The CV pandemic across the planet continues with 820,271 new cases (a 1.44% increase compared to a .98% increase yesterday) to bring the total over 57 million to 57,839,871, 16,416,740 of which are active, 41,423,131 of which have been closed with 40,047,091 recoveries (96.68% compared to yesterday’s 96.68%) and 1,376,040 deaths (3.32% compared to yesterday’s 3.32%) to continue the trend of increased recovery percentages and decreased death percentages.
CV USA Cases: New cases of 743,041 with total cases over 12 million at 11,495,835 (a 6.46% increase compared to yesterday’s 4.01% increase) with 4,687,213 active cases of which 22,498 (.48% of active cases), recently on a disturbing upward trend with slight blips from a high of 19,155 on July 23 (22,166 yesterday and 15,881 on September 1), are in serious or critical condition as trend has shifted and may be continuing to go up, and 7,551,663 closures, 259,946 of which have been deaths (3.44% compared to yesterday’s 3.46%) and 7,291,717 of which have been recoveries (96.56% compared to yesterday’s 96.55%). Our death rate percentages continue to improve and are finally in single digits since Cuomo repealed on May 10 his order sending CV positive patients to nursing homes and ADL facilities and after many months are only .12% above world rate and on a deaths per million population measurement at 784 ranks behind Belgium (1309), Peru (1069), Spain (911), Argentina (805), Italy (808), UK (798) which has now passed us despite leading world in testing), (804), and Brazil (791) and Chile (780) and only slightly worse than Chile (782) that we just passed, (Mexico (773), Bolivia (758), Ecuador (738), newly added to the list France (739) and Sweden (638) that never closed its economy down like we did and we have now conducted 2,164,182 more tests to bring total to 177,148,467 (now at 533,967/M compared to Russia at 488,151/M so Trump is telling truth that we conduct more tests in number and on a per capital basis for nations (other than those nations that contain small populations like Bahrain, Denmark, Israel, Singapore and UAE) but for the U.K. which remains off the testing charts with tests at 591,931/M).
Non CV Case News: The Milwaukee mall where a black police officer Joseph Mensah shot and killed a fleeing 17 year old black suspect Alvin Cole and a site of sporadic protests, as Mensah was not charged but was paid $130,000 to leave the force, since then was the scene of multiple victims being shot though non seriously with the shooter still at large; in New Orleans, 2 police officers were ambushed by a passenger in a pedicab who shot 1 in the face and fortunately was caught as his pedicab driver probably with a gun to his head pedaled away; Andrew Cuomo already raking in dough for his book on the CV pandemic has just added an Emmy for his 111 daily briefings on the pandemic (the deaths he caused in nursing homes should merit prison time); in a father like son moment, Donald Trump, Jr. has tested positive for CV and is in quarantine since Monday and joins his girlfriend Kimberly Guilfoyle who tested positive in August of this year; the Obama’s must be emboldened by the Emmy Cuomo is receiving as they announced they will be doing a Netflix series attacking Donald Trump; in a reality moment that apes the name, a contestant on “Wipeout” after completing the obstacle course was taken to a hospital where death wiped him out; Sweden which never shut down and is now seeing CV cases spike and ICU beds fill up has rejected a mask mandate for Swedes in public places or public transportation; Rashida Tlaib, a noted Anti-Semite who is appearing on a panel to discuss anti-Semitism is being slammed by Reds for touting that thinking about the Holocaust makes her feel calm; one night after police in Omaha shot and killed a black who refused to exit the vehicle and appeared to be reaching for a gun and a .45 with a bullet in the chamber was found under his body, an illegal assembly was announced and arrests made (no body cam footage yet released but hope it shows the victim reaching for a gun).
Chicago/Baltimore Gun Violence: In Chicago as of November 19, 2020, the number of shootings increased to 3,786 of whom 645 have died, but in a minor miracle no one shot yesterday day died (total travesty of BLM when blacks are shot and killed by blacks in droves and only sounds of silence and complete absence of any protests in front of City Hall demanding action to curb the killings and shootings); Baltimore with a fraction of Chicago’s population and hoping against all hopes that 2020 will not be a record in terms of deaths but now seems to be shooting less and killing less and is now 350 behind Chicago at 295 murders (when will Chicago and Baltimore get serious about this carnage or is this the case of true racism as a Blue run city turns a deaf ear and a blind eye to the slaughter of people of color by people of color and when will the left focus on the problem of color on color shootings in Blue run cities which have been way more deadly and way more numerous than shootings by police or by random mass shootings which occur far much less. As always, I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, factoids of interest for this day in history, a musical link to “The Way You Look Tonight” by Fred Astaire, the fact that you when you need to be can be a precisian and a poster hung up on AT&T workplaces on the pending divestiture on January 1, 1984, secure in the knowledge that if you want to send a gift for any memorable events like Father’s Day, college graduations, birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient. Here is a recording of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dIW_Ah0wg- Astaire was a multi-talented singer, actor and dancer, perhaps one of the most acclaimed and remained active well into his 80’s until dying of pneumonia on June 22, 1987 at the age of 88.
5. A Time to Heal?--celebrating or bemoaning depending on your political viewpoint the birth on this day in 1942 of President-Elect Joe Biden who may be faced with a Red Senate not flipped and a very thin razor like majority in the House.
On this day in:

Reflections on the breakup of AT&T and the Bell System: "There are two giant entities at work in our country, and they both have an amazing influence on our daily lives...one has given us radar, sonar, stereo, teletype, the transistor, hearing aids, artificial larynxes, talking movies, and the telephone. The other has given us the Civil War, the Spanish American War, the First World War, the Second World War, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, double-digit inflation, double digit unemployment, the Great Depression, the gasoline crisis, and the Watergate fiasco. Guess which one is now trying to tell the other one how to run its business?" poster hung on the wall of many AT&T offices 1983 as AT&T employees prepared for divestiture.
