Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For January 24, 2020 The purgatory of the Impeachment Farce has begun its final 7 some hours with the the Senate Chaplain opening the proceedings with a prayer that included prayer that the parties could express their difference and convictions without personal attack, a trait which from the House Managers has been sorely lacking; scary news out of China which is rattling the market as the coronavirus cases and deaths continue to spread while China imposes massive quarantines on large areas of China and closes such popular attractions as the Great Wall (highlighting the difficulty of containing a virus, in the U.S. the second confirmed case as the number of patients being evaluated continues to climb; back from his time at Davos touting the American economy and encouraging foreign nations investment made history by becoming the first president to address the March for Life and blast Blues for becoming more and more radical on the issue of abortion; Nadler seems to have forgotten a basic tenet of trial work—never engage in ad hominem attacks on the jurors you need to convince as moderate Red Susan Collins stunned by his accusation that Reds were engaging in a cover-up prompted Susan Collins to write the Chief Justice complaining about such accusations; George Stephanopoulos, a former Clinton hack masquerading as a journalist for ABC was caught on camera throat slashing to cut an interviews with Sekulow, President Trump’s impeachment lawyer, off while appearing to be smiling over pulling the plug;

on the banking front Stumpf, the former CEO of Wells Fargo during its false accounts opening scandal, was fined $17 million and banned from the banking industry for life as the Feds are not yet through with pursuing Wells Fargo executives involved in the scandal (maybe overkill as it would be hard to imagine any bank that would be dumb enough to hire Stumpf but a great message to send to the industry); Schiff like Nadler seem to think they are immune from decorum assaults as he claims Trump will be putting the heads of moderate  Reds who oppose him on a pike; in Chicago, as of January 23, 2020, 114 people have been shot of whom 20 have died; Baltimore with a fraction of Chicago’s population and hoping against all hopes that 2020 will not be a record in terms of deaths has regained the death lead from Chicago and suffered 22 murders by shootings to remain in the dubious distinction of being in the lead (when will Chicago and Baltimore get serious about this carnage or is this the case of true racism as a Blue run city turns a deaf ear and a blind eye to the slaughter of people of color by people of color and when will the left focus on the problem of color on color shootings in Blue run cities which have been more deadly and more numerous than random mass shootings?).

1. National Lobster Thermador Day—celebrating an excellent and tasty way to enjoy lobsters but if prices keep going up due to over fishing and diseases reducing supply, be quick of this meal will be but a memory.

2. Beer Can Appreciation Day—celebrating the first appearance of beer in cans by Krugueger Cream Ale on this day in 1935,  a method of delivery customers fell in love with such that by the end of the year 200 million cans of beer had been sold.

3. 1937 Number 1 Number One Song— the number one song in 1937 on this day on a run of 10 weeks in the position was “Pennies from Heaven” by Bing Crosby. 4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day as we move to words starting with “o” is “obfuscate” which means to confuse or obscure which the MSM is committed to do when it comes to Trump’s economic record. 

5. Animal House—celebrating the birthday on this day in 1949 of noted comedian and actor John Belushi who was a stellar performer on SNL and is best remembered for his role in Animal House and The Blues Brothers but who sadly succumbed to a speedball of cocaine and heroin and died on March 5, 1982.

    a. 1848 James Marshall found gold near Sutter’s Mill near Sacramento, California, igniting the California Gold Rush.    

     b. 1961 in a real “oops” moment a B-52 carrying two hydrogen bombs broke up near Goldsboro, North Carolina, releasing the bombs which did not explode but only one of which was ever recovered.

     c. 1984 after its iconic introduction commercial in a Super Bowl Commercial placed the Macintosh computer on sale.                                            

d. 1989 in a better late than never serial killer Ted Bundy was executed for 30 some murders in Florida.

e. 2003 the Department of Homeland Security was established to coordinate efforts against and fight terrorist threats against the homeland.
