Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For September 21, 2019 The sins of being a father may be coming back to haunt Biden as his campaign is involved in a Ukraine controversy once again demanding that Trump release transcripts of his call with Ukraine’s President asking him for help in investigating Biden and his son Hunter in quid pro quo allegations while Hunter was working there and Biden was vice president (Joe must have a short memory of his bragging that unless Ukraine fired a prosecutor investigating Hunter, Joe would insure that some 1 billion dollars in aid would be held up which prompted the firing of the investigator); di Blasio’s withdrawal may be the omen for other candidates mired in the mud of voter rejection like Booker who announced that he must raise $1.5 million in the next 10 days or be forced to withdraw (will Bozo O’Rourke be next or better yet Kamala Harris?); Bozo O’Rourke doubles down on gun confiscation while the woman Lauren Boebert who castigated him at a Colorado town hall for trying to leave her gunless and defenseless against thugs who would harm her or her family, slammed him for exploiting the deaths in Colorado mass shooting for his own campaign (as a reflection of which many Americans feel about gun confiscation, Alpha Dogs Firearms in Tempe, Arizona held an AR-15 “Beto Sale” which sold out in 4 hours) ; while are speculating what Trump will say about religious freedom when he addresses the United Nations, legal experts are speculating whether SCOTUS will hear a case on the issue of UN immunity arising out of the deaths of thousands of Haitians who died from cholera caused by the negligence of UN Nepalese peacekeepers brought to the island to preserved security following a devastating hurricane in 2010; Taylor Swift continues her leftist PC drift by canceling her concert at the Melbourne Cup due to protests by animal rights activists who are protesting the deaths of 6 racehorses over the last 6 years; while Trump is moving additional troops to the Middle East for defensive purposes following the Iranian backed drone attacks on Saudi production facilities, prices at the pump have risen $.10 per gallon; in a newly released anonymous video, which should be mandatory for executives of Google and other social media companies that protest doing work for the U.S. Government but readily do business with China to watch, hundreds of hooded, heads shaved and shackled prisoners believed to be Muslims are being herded on a street in China (the Swamp needs a wake-up call to realize China is not our friend and dedicated to replacing us as a leading power militarily, economically and technologically in the world); on the good news front, Richard Smith, the CEO of Vista Equity Partners made good on his promise to Morehouse graduates of the class of 2019 and paid off their student debt; in Chicago through September 20, 2019, 2054 have been shot of whom 348 have died but surprise, surprise none of those shot on the 20th; and in Baltimore with a fraction of Chicago’s population, 248 have been murdered in Baltimore (when will Chicago and Baltimore get serious about this carnage or is this the case of true racism as a Blue run city turns a deaf ear and a blind eye to the slaughter of people of color by people of color and when will the left focus on the problem of color on color shootings in Blue run cities which have been more deadly and more numerous than random mass shootings?
As always, I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, factoids of interest for this day in history, a musical link to Glenn Miller and His Orchestra, the fact that you are not a popinjay, and a relevant poetic quote on autumn by William Blake, secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like Father’s Day, college graduations, birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1. International Day of Peace--created by the UN’s General Assembly in 1981 to promote the resolution of conflicts among or between nations by peaceful means as opposed to war.
2. Autumnal Equinox—celebrating the official beginning of fall and the point when the center of the Sun is directly over the Earth’s Equator making the day and night of the same duration.
3. 1939 Number One Song— the number one song in 1939 on this day was “Over the Rainbow” by Glenn Miller and His Orchestra. Here is a recording of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=58inMDCcWkg.
4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “popinjay” which means a conceited person which describes most politicians on either side of the aisle to a tee.
5. Misnamed Lady--celebrating the birth on this day in 1980 of noted Hindi actress Kareena Kapoor whose acting family and her success in acting has made her far from poor.
On this day in:
a. 1780 in a fit of pique over not being recognized for his military talent he believed he possessed, Benedict Arnold committed treason by turning over the plans for West Point to the British.
b. 1938 the Great Hurricane of 1938 which had become a CAT 5 hurricane before making landfall on Long Island killed almost 700 in a sobering moment that Climate Change is not necessarily the cause of hurricanes that the likes of AOC are prone to push.
c. 1981 in a rare display of nonpartisanship and a deweaponizing of the judicial branch, Stanford Law School Alumnus Sandra Day O’Connor was unanimously confirmed by the Senate to become a member of SCOTUS.
d. 1996 Congress passed the Defense of Marriage Act which was signed by President Clinton but ultimately ruled unconstitutional or rendered effectively unenforceable by two decisions by SCOTUS in 2013 and 2015.
e. 2001 Ross Parker, a white English male, was brutally attacked by a mob of British Pakistani in Millfield, Petersborough, England and killed highlighting the fact that racism knows no ethnic lines and is capable of being practiced by nonwhites three of whom in this case are serving life sentences.
Reflections on autumn: “O Autumn, laden with fruit, and stained With the blood of the grape, pass not, but sit Beneath my shady roof; there thou may'st rest, And tune thy jolly voice to my fresh pipe; And all the daughters of the year shall dance! Sing now the lusty song of fruit and flowers." William Blake, noted English painter and poet of the Romantic Age.
