June 5, 2019 Ridley's Believe It Or Not World Environment Day

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For June 5, 2019 In a surprise move worthy of praise, AOC has slammed proposed move of Paul Manaforte into Rikers Island pending his trial in New York; trying to remain relevant, HRC, who set up a private email server to hide her government business emails including those containing classified information that was most likely hacked, will be the keynote speaker at FireEye’s Cyber Security Summit (what a joke from a woman who can’t accept the fact she lost and continues to claim collusion by Trump with Russians to destroy her pathetic campaign to win the White House); Rashida Tlaib at a hearing on domestic terrorism falsely attacked the FBI for ignoring domestic terrorism to concentrate on international terrorism after reading a death threat letter against terrorism while joining once again with fellow anti-Trumpster Ilhan Omar to impeach Trump (she is dead wrong about the FBI and any inference that Americans believe that the only good Muslim in this country is a dead Muslim); the Marine Corps sexiest Marine, Shannon Ihrke stripes down and supports Trump’s visit to U.K.:

Trump and other world leaders convened at Portsmouth to commemorate the 75 anniversary of D-Day which was attended by 300 British veterans of D-Day, aged 91-101 who also attended the event; Trump is receiving glowing treatment from the U.K. Media while our anti-Trump MSM true to form seems to be concentrating on protests and the baby Trump balloon (total disgrace as CNN ratings sink to all time lows); Biden whose first attempt to run for president in 1988 was shot down due to plagiarism charges shows he has not learned as his campaign was blasted for plagiarizing platform ideas such as his global warming fix that AOC is railing against; while growing e-commerce is causing retail chains to shut stores, Versace announced it would be opening more than 100 new stores by 2022 to sell its luxury offerings; Trump has banned cruise ships from leaving U.S. ports to visit Cuba in an effort to curtail dollars going to that repressive communist island (not sure how effective given the history of our total boycott of Cuba for many years); while Trump tariffs starting at 5% on Mexico will go into effect Monday for its not helping to curb immigration into Mexico and the U.S. by illegal immigrants as the Blues have totally abandoned and frustrated border security, the real tariffs that should be put in place are not on Mexico but on Blues by voters in terms of negative votes; in another example of why we live in a dangerous world, a Russian fighter jet buzzed a U.S. reconnaissance plane in the Mediterranean Sea 3 times; through June 4, 2019 988 people  have been shot in Chicago of whom 194 have died (what makes the Smollett case so frustrating is that it forced the city of Chicago to allocate scarce detective resources when in only 9% of the shootings resulting in murder have a suspect being charged this year).
1. World Environment Day—created by the UN in 1974 as a platform to raise awareness of environmental issues facing the planet and to propose solutions.
2. Festival of Popular Delusions—celebrating the delusion of the leaders of the Third Reich on the day before D-Day that the Third Reich would last a 1,000 years and if a corollary date to this observance is needed it would be April 18, 2019 the day before the Mueller Report was issued that destroyed the Blues’ delusion of Trump collusion with the Russians.
3. 1936 Number One Song—the number one song on this day in 1936 is “Lost” by Guy Lombardo and his Royal Canadians on a run of 1 week in that position. Here is a recording of the song featuring Kenny Gardner: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ZYGKeCk4Qw Guy passed away from a heart attack on November 5, 1977.
4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day as we move from words beginning with “o” to words beginning with “p” is “pectuncle” which means that delicious mollusk a cockle.
5. Don’t Say Cheese—celebrating the birth on this day in 1941 of Robert Kraft, the owner of the New England Patriots and no relation to James Kraft who founded the Kraft Cheese Company.
As always, I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, a music link to Guy Lombardo and the Royal Canadians, 5 factoids of interest for this day in history, the fact that you are looking forward to enjoying some pectuncles, and a relevant quote from Douglas Brinkley on the Marshall Plan’s impact on Truman’s legacy, secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like college graduations, birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient. a. 1947 in a speech at Harvard University which evolved into the Marshall Plan, Secretary of State George Marshall called for aid to repair war ravaged Europe.
b. 1967 the Six Day War was initiated by Israel in air strikes on Egyptian air bases after Egypt had closed the Straits of Tiran to Israel shipping and massed troops on its border with Israel.
c. 1981 the Center for Disease Control and Prevention in its weekly report reported that 5 people in Los Angeles with weakened immune systems had died of a rare form of pneumonia in what later proved to be the first reporting on AIDS.
d. 1989 an unidentified Chinese known to the world as the Tank Man, the video of whom was smuggled out of China, held up a column of Chinese tanks in Tienanmen Square for a half an hour by standing in front of them; his identity and fate remain unknown but is certain that if the Chinese discovered his identity and captured him he would be a dead man.

e. 2017 Bahrain, Egypt, Libya, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Yemen cut ties with Qatar over claims it was destabilizing the region.
Reflections on the effect of the Marshall Plan:  “Truman has become the patron saint of failed presidents because he left office with a 27 percent approval rating, and people were saying, 'To err is Truman,' yet look at what he did: the Marshall Plan, the creation of NATO, the Truman Doctrine.” Douglas Brinkley, noted American author and Professor of History at Rice University Please enjoy the poems on events of interest on my twitter account below (if you like them, retweet and follow me) and follow my blogs.
