October 9, 2017 Ridley's Believe It Or Not National Nanotechnology Day

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For October 9, 2017 The rhetoric coming out of the Swamp continues unabated with RINOs like Corker claiming that Trump wants to lead us into World War III with North Korea (if Kim proceeds with his quest to arm his ICBMs with nuclear warheads that war would be over in less than 30 minutes with Kim and his weapons program totally vaporized); as rankings for the NFL continue to drop, Jerry Jones the owner of the Dallas Cowboys informed the players either stand or be benched (good for him and kudos to Mike Pence for walking out of the Colts/49ers game when players kneeled during the playing of the National Anthem and to ESPN for finally get its act together by terminating the anchor Jamele Hill who trashed Trump and Jones); Nancy and Chuck are venting on DACA their extreme fury that Trump has the audacity to insist DACA passage dependent on a Wall and reform that puts the needs of the country first not the uniting of distant family members (compromise in their minds is the typical my way or the highway); the head of the EPA before a cheering crowd in Hazard, Kentucky announced the “War on Coal” is over; Henry Weinstein has been fired over his alleged sexual abuse of women and today we find the leftist rag the NYT buried a story on Weinstein’s predatory practices involving women back in 2004 due to pressure from Hollywood celebs (once again when it comes to the real war of women, no pun intended, the left gets caught with their pants down clutching their wallets and purses holding millions of campaign contributions from him that are not being returned); in Chicago through October 8, 2017, the number of people being shot climbed to 2965 and the death toll rising to 510 while the city seems to not be doing anything to prevent the killing and maiming of its minority residents—a real definition of racism which is deadly.
As always, I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, a music link to Debby Boone Murphy, factoids of interest for this day in history, a relevant quote by the birthday boy John Lennon, hoping you do not have use a knout on our gridlocked, partisan Congress  and secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1National Nanotechnology Day—promoting awareness of the contributions to our economy working in the realm of 1-100 nanometers (one nanometer is 1/1,000,000,000 of a meter which is a very small measurement indeed).
2. Columbus Day/Leif Erickson Day—celebrating the discovery by Europeans of the Americas, by Norwegians some 500 years before Columbus on October 12, 1492 (celebrated on the second Monday in October.
3. 1977 Number One Song—the number one song in 1977 on a run of 10 weeks in that position was “You Light Up My Life” by Debby Boone. Here is a performance of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b07-yKnKRMQ
 4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “knout” which means to flog someone with a multi-thonged whip which is something our Congress might need to end gridlock that is frustrating our recovery.
5.  All You Need Is Love Not Crazed Fans—celebrating the birth on this day in 1940 of John Lennon who was gunned down by a deranged fan, Mark David Chapman, who is now rotting in prison and eligible for his tenth parole hearing next year.
On this day in:
a. 1936 generators are turned on for the first time at Boulder Dam (now known as Hoover Dam) in Arizona, sending power to Los Angeles some 266 miles away.
b. 1950 after retaking Seoul, in the  Goyang Geunjeong Cave, South Korean troops executed 153 civilians on suspicion of cooperating with North Korean troops that had previously occupied Seoul.
c. 1966 in an example that bad habits in war die hard, South Korean forces slaughtered 168 South Vietnamese to avenge the death of one soldier from a sniper attack near Binh Tai village.
d. 1967 Cuban revolutionary Che Guevara was executed by Bolivian troops after being captured the day before for seeking to start a revolution to overthrow the government of Bolivia.
e. 2006 in a glaring example of the failure of diplomacy in dealing with North Korea, North Korea detonated its first nuclear weapon.
Reflections on peace from the too soon departed birthday boy: “"We all have Hitler in us, but we also have love and peace. So why not give peace a chance for once?"
