June 11, 2017 Ridley's Believe It Or Not Race Unity Day

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For June 11, 2017 We are still mired in the delusion of the Russian collusion and the Comey firing while the real issues we need to address like replacing a dead Obamacare, tax cuts, and border security are dead in the water (where are the PR people to alert the voters to the obstruction by the Blues that will kill this recovery and doom this nation to a return to the abysmal growth of the Obama years?); Kirsten Gillibrand is the latest uncouth, profanity spewing “Senator” hurling f* bombs at Trump (with antics and animosity like that no wonder the Blues are the reason nothing can be accomplished in the Swamp); the head of the RNC stated today enough is enough and called for an end to the false Russian collusion delusion investigations by the Senate and House so Congress can focus on what they were elected to do—solve the issues aforementioned that exponentially more important than the sound bites of Blue politicians like Harris seeking reelection or a higher office; shades of the Berlin Airlift, Iran has sent five planes loaded with food to Qatar after Saudi Arabia closed its border; in a one step forward to objectivity with the firing on Aslan, the Clinton News Network, took two steps backward by running for two days the false narrative based on anonymous sources that Comey would refute Trump’s allegations that he was not told he was not under investigation which despite his leaks, Comey told the truth that Trump was not; Rahm Emanuel’s top priority for Chicago remains making it the premier sanctuary city in the country as the carnage continues unabated in June with total shootings in 2017 through June 10 increasing to 1507 and the death toll increasing to 262, a major tragedy that the powers to be in Chicago seem to completely ignore except for those fortunate enough to own a mortuary.
As always, I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, a music link to the Everly Brothers, factoids of interest for this day in history, hoping Trump will remain impavid against the Blues and the MSM in his efforts to get his needed agenda implemented, a relevant quote on abuse from Simon Baron-Cohensecure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like Fathers’ Day which is right around the corner, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1Race Unity Daycreated in 1957 by Bahá’í National Spiritual Assemblto promote racial harmony and understanding which given the divisiveness of race relations that still persists in this nation is an observance that merits observing each and every day of our lives.
2. Abused Women and Children’s Awareness Day—created to promote awareness of and to end the abuse of one in four women during their lifetime by their spouse or significant other and the estimated abusing of 6 million children each year—a real man never, ever strikes or otherwise abuses a woman or a child.
3. 1960 Number One Song—the number one song in 1960 on a run of 5 weeks in that position was “Cathy’s Clown” by the Everly Brothers. Here is a performance by them of the song with a very young Dick Clark introducing them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3-E9JebDtU Both brothers were heavy smokers but the oldest Don born in 1937 quit in the 60’s and is still going strong but the youngest Phil born in 1939 who also quit but took up the butt again died of lung disease in 2014.
4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “impavid” which means to be fearless which when it comes to tackling major problems facing us like entitlement spending growing out of control, is a characteristic our politicians completely lack.
5. Poster Child for Term Limits—celebrating the birth on this day in 1930 of Charles Rangel, 19 term Congressman from Harlem who defeated another corrupt long term politician Adam Clayton Powell but was sanctioned himself for ethics violations in 2010.
On this day in:
a. 1776 the Continental Congress appointed Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Roger Sherman and David Livingston to draft the Declaration of Independence.
b. 1937 eight high ranking generals were executed on the orders of Joseph Stalin, whose executing or imprisoning of thousands from the officer corps of the Soviet Union left it ill prepared to face the Wehrmacht in 1941 when Germany launched its invasion.
c. 1944 the last battleship built by the U.S. Navy, the USS Missouri, was commissioned and now is a floating museum at Pearl Harbor.
d. 1998 Compaq Computer Corporation acquired Digital Equipment Corporation for $9 billion which at the time was the largest high tech acquisition until it was itself acquired by Hewlett-Packard for $25 billion in 2002.
e. 2002 in a what took you so long and my kingdom for a horse moment, the U.S. Congress passed a resolution recognizing Antonio Meucci as the first inventor of the telephone who filed a caveat patent some 16 years prior to Alexander Graham Bell but did not have the requisite filing fee of $10 to be issued a patent.
Reflections on the impact of child abuse: “Parents who discipline their child by discussing the consequences of their actions produce children who have better moral development, compared to children whose parents use authoritarian methods and punishment.”  Simon Baron-Cohen, Zero Degrees of Empathy: A New Theory of Human Cruelty  Reflecting on the accomplishments of my children now adults, Simon is right on.  Please enjoy the poems on events of interest on my twitter account below (if you like them, retweet and follow me) and follow my blogs.
