March 18, 2017 Ridley's Believe Or Not Supreme Sacrifice Day

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For March 18, 2017  Trust your St. Patrick’s was a festive one especially for the 14 mushers who entered Nome that day including DeeDeeJenrowe (47th) who finished her 32nd Iditarod out of 35 attempts but not as festive for the 8 mushers still on the course 3 of whom have left Safety and will enter Nome before lunch today and the remaining five who have left White Mountain including Cindy Abbott who is in last place 40 minutes behind the next to last place rookie Peter Reuter and barring any unforeseen mishaps to dogs or sled should cover the remaining 72 miles in time to enjoy a hearty dinner in Nome; Blues are finally coming to realize that Americans are fed up with their obstruction and delay and should fold on opposition to Judge Gorsuch whose hearings start Monday; after another fence jumper who set off multiple alarms and went unfound for 15 minutes, Dan Bongino, former Secret Service agent who protected Bush and Obama stated in an interview with Fox that President Trump is no longer safe in the White House; elections have consequences but so does biased and inept reporting as Rachel Maddow learned after her Trump Tax return fiasco that has led to a 36% drop in viewership (56% drop in 25-54 age group); HRC in a St. Patrick’s Day speech indicate she was ready to “come out of the woods” to help Americans find common ground (noble goal but most likely lofty rhetoric especially if she runs for Mayor of New York City with its large budget that if she wins would jumpstart the access to her office albeit on a smaller scale quid pro quo infamous during her tenure as Secretary of State); on the sports front, great day for the Pac 12 with USC, UCLA and Oregon winning;; almost like a stuck record, the carnage in Chicago continues unabated with total shootings in 2017 through March 17 increasing to 632 and the death toll rising to 117 (God help those poor minorities being shot mostly by minorities when the weather gets warmer and the shooters’ aim gets really better and there is more daylight) and yet nothing, absolutely nothing, appears to be occurring to address this blight on blacks and minorities which is what racism from a black mayor really looks like;
    As always, I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, a music link to Ruby and the Romantics, factoids of interest for this day in history, a relevant quote from the grave by Osama bin Laden, while hoping your vicinal surroundings are pleasant, secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1.  Supreme Sacrifice Day—honoring and remembering those who have given their lives to protect or trying to save someone, friend, relative or absolute stranger from death or injury.
2.  International Sports Car Racing Day—celebrated on the third Saturday of March—nothing like going to a race course to lose what little hearing you have left wondering if this will be the day you witness a collision or crash with the driver walking away in one piece.
3. 1963 Number One Song—celebrating the number one song in 1963 on a run of 1 week in that position “Our Day Will Come” by Ruby and the Romantics.  Here is a recording of the group performing the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qw9RVjEN9OI
4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “vicinal” which describes something neighboring or adjacent which unfortunate Seoul, South Korea is to the massive artillery the North Koreans possess.
5. Swamp Madam—bemoaning the birthday of Deborah Jeanne Palfrey aka the D.C. Madam who founded Pamela Martin and Associates to provide escort services to elite Swamp denizens and who, convicted of money laundering and racketeering but before going off to prison, hanged herself.
On this day in:
a. 1766 in a too little too late moment the British Parliament repealed the despised Stamp Act that kindled huge anti British resentment in the 13 colonies.
b. 1850 American Express was founded by Henry Wells and William Fargo.
c. 1938 Mexico created Pemex by expropriating all foreign owned oil reserves and facilities.
d. 1942 in one of the darker moments of our history the War Relocation Authority was created to put Japanese Americans, including those born here, into internment camps.
e.  2015 another chilling reminder of the reach of radical Islam, the Bardo National Museum in Tunis, Tunisia was attacked by three Islamists resulting in 20 tourists, 2 Tunisians and 2 of the 3 terrorists dying and the wounding of 50 mostly tourists.
A chilling prediction and prophesy that was proved to be correct at the Bardo in 2015 and at Orly Airport the other day:" Jihad will continue even if I am not around.” Osama bin Laden. Despite the dangers posed of admitting unvetted refugees and warnings that ISIS is infiltrating refugees, zealots like California’s junior Senator applaud another federal judge’s issuance of a temporary restraining order.
