Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For July 24, 2016. Only 180 days to go in President Obama’s pathetic lame duck term and 233 days since hiding Hillary has held a formal press conference; on the eve of the DNC opening in Philadelphia, the massive almost 20,000 email leak by Wikileaks confirm what most people already suspected—the Blue process was rigged and corrupt but fortunately claimed its first victim, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the titular head of the DNC and flaming ideologue whose anti Red rhetoric is over the top, will not be speaking; the Sanders camp is outraged over the content and demanding accountability while Trump is reaching out to those supporters http://alaskanpoet.blogspot.com/2016/07/sanders-supporters-to-hold-someone.html; after Obama last week made a plea that the rhetoric should be dialed down, the mayor of Philadelphia, James Kenney made the shameful and disgusting claim on MSNBC that Trump wanted to put blacks at the back of the bus and remove them from the lunch counters (given the total devastation to black employment and income due to Obama, very difficult for many to pay for a meal); Malik Obama, Barack’s half brother, announced he was backing Trump (at least one member of Obama’s family has wise judgment); in Obama’s delusional the world is less violent view, another car bombing in Baghdad claimed the lives of only 14 innocents.
On the sports/politics front, BLM staged a protest in Rio 11 days prior to the start of the Olympics to protest shootings and excessive force of the Rio police against blacks and the WNBA rescinded fines previously levied against players wearing black shirts to protest police violence against blacks. 1. Pioneers’ Day—a state holiday in Utah to commemorate the arrival of the first group of Mormons led by Brigham Young into the Salt Lake Valley in 1847 after being forced to flee from Nauvoo, Illinois.
2. Parents’ Day—created by Presidential Proclamation by Bill Clinton in 1994 to be observed on the fourth Sunday in July to honor and commemorate the role of parents in rearing and educating their children.
3. 1952 Number One Song—celebrating the number one song in 1952 on a run of 9 weeks in that position “Auf Wiederseh’n Sweetheart” by iconic British singer Vera Lynn. Here is a link to Vera Lynn performing the song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WsuLH4sulA 4. National Tequila Day—this poet is clueless why this holiday is not observed on Cinco de Mayo.
5. My Plane Is So Small and the Pacific Is So Large—celebrating the birthday of “Lady Lindy,” Amelia Earhart, born on this day in 1897 and who became a pioneer female aviator but sadly disappeared on a flight over the Pacific in 1937 and never seen again.
On this day in:
a. 1487 the citizens of Leeuwarden, Netherlands went on strike to protest the ban on the sale of imported beer.
b. 1911 Hiram Bingham III rediscovered Machu Picchu, “the Lost City of the Incas.”
c. 1929 the Kellogg-Briand Pact, renouncing war as a means to settle foreign policy differences goes into effect; unfortunately in a little over 10 years, World War II erupted in a calamity that killed millions upon millions of civilians and combatants.
d. 1974 SCOTUS ruled that President Nixon did not have the right to withhold the Nixon Tapes from the Special Prosecutor and ordered him to turn the tapes over; this was a lesson learned by a young lawyer working for the Senate’s Watergate Subcommittee and explains her motivation in creating her private email server and wiping the “personal emails” clean.
e. 1998 Russell Eugene Weston, Jr. burst into the United States Capitol and killed two police officers before being apprehended; he was judged not competent to stand trial for their murders and still resides in a federal mental institution.
Chilling prediction from Lady Lindy: “I have a feeling there is just about one more good flight left in my system and I hope this trip is it.” (said to reporters before her last flight) Amelia Earhart Please enjoy the poems on events of interest on my twitter account below (if you like them, retweet and follow me) and follow my blogs.
