July 17, 2016 Ridley's Believe It Or Not International Firgun Day

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For July 17, 2016. Unfortunately still 187 days to go in President Obama’s pathetic lame duck term and 226 days since hiding Hillary has held a formal press conference; horrific news out of Baton Rouge as 6 police officers were shot this morning with three killed in an ambush that left one shooter dead and perhaps two suspects in the ambush at large (several police chiefs were interviewed on Fox and laid the blame on Obama and the Governor of Minnesota for their rhetoric as adding fuel to the racial tension fire); Cleveland is beginning to look like an armed camp with its police chief calling on the governor to suspend Ohio’s open carry gun law during the Republican Convention which convenes on Monday; Turkey ramps up its call for us to extradite Cleric Gulen back to Turkey for his roll in plotting (which Gulen strenuously denies) the failed coup which caught us completely by surprise, like Russian movement into the Crimea; Gulen and his Gulen Movement are exactly the kind of Muslims we must have to expose that radical Islam practiced by such groups as ISIS is a flawed ideology and must be rejected completely by the Muslim community (watching the arrests of the plotters  of coup and Erdogan’s vow to punish harshly those involved extraditing the frail old cleric would be the equivalent of a death sentence); in another example of the fact that socialism does not work, tens of thousands of Venezuelans near starvation crossed into Columbia to buy food and medicine on Saturday when the border was again briefly opened; on the sports front Nate Thurmond died at 74.     Going to www.lyingcrookedhillary.com is a great way to start your day along of course with www.alaskanpoet.blogspot.com
As always, I hope  you enjoy today’s holidays and observances,  a music link to Les Brown, factoids of interest, a relevant quote from the Niger Innis while looking forward to enjoying a generous serving of peach ice cream, blessed with a positive attitude and  secure in  the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like birthdays, weddings, or  anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem  at a great price  tailored to the event and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1. International Firgun Day—celebrating the empathetic joy in the accomplishments of others devoid of envy, jealousness or ulterior motives. This would be on the eve of the Republican Convention and in the aftermath of another police ambush a good observance to celebrate and follow in one’s daily life.
2. International Justice Day—celebrated since 2010 to recognize the growing system of international criminal justice in such areas as genocide,  war crimes, crimes against humanity or aggression or bemoaning the creeping loss of sovereignty as the flipside of the movement.
3. 1945 Number One Song—celebrating the number one song in 1945 on a run of nine  weeks in that position “Sentimental Journey” by Les Brown and his Band of Renown. Here is a link to Les Brown and his Band of Renown  performing “Sentimental Journey” with vocals by Doris Day.
4. National Peach Ice Cream Day—perfect time to double down on this treat by topping your bowl with sliced fresh peaches which are in season and a real bargain in the supermarkets.
5. Grisham’s Law Corollary To Gresham’s Law—celebrating the law that we overvalue authors and undervalue lawyers by honoring the birthday on this day in 1889 of Erle Stanley Gardner, an iconic detective novelist who the left the practice of 1933 to write some 60 Perry Mason novels. Just like the world needs more poets and fewer lawyers; the world needs more authors and fewer lawyers.
On this day in:
a. 1867 the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, the first dental school in  the U.S. affiliated with a university was established in Boston..
b. 1902 Willis Carrier created the first air conditioner at Buffalo, New York.
c. 1955 Disneyland, “the Happiest Place on Earth” was dedicated and opened in Anaheim, California.
d. 1984 the National Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984 was passed which mandated a 10 percent reduction in federal highway funds to any state that did not have a minimum drinking age of at least 21; why the Blues in the Senate continue to block the same type legislation for states with “Sanctuary Cities”  is a complete mystery and source of outrage.
e. 2014 Malaysia  Airlines Flight 17 was shot down over the Ukraine by a Russian SAM either fired by Russians or Russian backed Ukrainian rebels killing all 298 people on board. No one has been brought to justice for this heinous crime.
A reflection on genocide that BLM in its pursuit of condemning police shootings of unarmed blacks has chosen to ignore as they must not be reading the Chicago, New York, Baltimore or any major metropolitan newspapers: “There is a genocide that is taking place among black men, in particular young black men, but it is not a genocide being perpetuated by white cops, by the Nazis, or by the Klan. Unfortunately and tragically, it is being perpetuated by other young black men. Niger Innis, National Spokesperson for CORE, active in the Tea Party and former Repubican Congressional candidate in Nevada. When it comes to black on black killings the sounds of silence from BLM are truly deafening. No wonder the police are believing more and more while they may have a badge in front they have a target on their back  Please enjoy the poems on events of interest on my twitter account below (if you like them, retweet and follow me) and follow my blogs.
