       1. National Running Day—celebrating a great way to lose weight and increase the production of dopamines—if a 92 year old woman can finish the San Diego Marathon last Sunday the rest of us couch potatoes can turn happy hour into running hour and if joints don’t handle running, turn it into a walk or jogging in a pool.  
       2. National Tailor’s Day—even in the world of business casual, nothing like a well tailored suit to make a fashion statement; if you become a runner as a result of celebrating that holiday, good chance you will need a tailor to take in your clothes.    
        3. 1955 Number One Song—celebrating the number one song in 1955 on a ten   week run Cherry Blossom Pink and Apple Blossom White by Perez Prado, a Cuban bandleader, singer, and songwriter known as the King of Mambo and very popular in the 50’s.        4.  National Egg Day—celebrating the many ways to enjoy the incredible egg which sadly due to an increasing outbreak of bird flu is getting more and more expensive.
       5.  If You Want the Black Pearl, You Don’t Have to Go to the Ocean—celebrating not the fictional pirate ship the Black Pearl but rather the birthday on this day in 1906 Josephine Baker, aka the Black Pearl, a ground breaking African American actress and singer of great note and an early participant in the American Civil Rights Movement.   
On this day in:                                           
       a. 1839 in Humen, China, Lin Tse Hsu destroyed 1.2 million kilograms of opium confiscated from British merchants resulting in Britain launching the First Opium War.
       b. 1888 one of the classic poems of all time Casey at the Bat, written by Ernst Lawrence Thayer was published by the San Francisco Examiner.     
       c. 1943 in Los Angeles white sailors and Marines clashed with Latino youths in clashes known as the Zoot Suit Riots which lasted almost a week and showcased the intolerance that was prevalent at that time.  
       d. 1965 NASA launched Gemini 4, the first multi day space mission which featured the first external vehicle spacewalk by Astronaut Ed White.
       e. 2013 the trial of U.S. Army private Bradley Manning went on trial at Fort Meade for leaking classified material to Wikileaks. He or now known as she (Chelsea) was convicted and is serving a 35 year sentence.
