January 20 History National Disc Jockey Day

Ridley's Believe It Or Not—January 20, 2015:    Trust your Tuesday  is proving to be a great one and you are looking forward to see what words of wisdom or foolishness or paths of unity or division our President will reveal during his annual State of the Union Address. As always I  hope you enjoy the holidays and observances, factoids and relevant quotes from George Burns,  with a smile on your face, enjoying a granola bar, blessed with a positive attitude even though you know you will have to wade through tons of spam in your inbox, and secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for a memorable event like Valentines’ Day soon approaching, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient.  You need only contact me for details.
       1. Inauguration Day—celebrating every four years the inauguration of the President of United States elected the prior November.
        2. National Disc Jockey Day—celebrating the contributions of the disc jockeys who bring dancing music to parties, proms and weddings.
       3. 1989 Number One Song—celebrating the number one song on this day in 1989 Two Hearts by Phil Collins.
        4. National Granola Bar Day—celebrating a great snack to have while hiking or biking or as a welcome addition to a lunch pail.
        5. Is Smoking Hazardous To Your Health Day—we all know the answer is yes but celebrate the exception--George Burns born on this day in 1896, inveterate cigar smoker who danced, acted, sang, and told jokes for over 94 years until dying at the ripe young age of 100 on March 9, 1996 from a heart attack.

On this day in
      a. 1920 the American Civil Liberties Union was founded.
      b. 1981 20 minutes after Ronald Reagan was inaugurated Iran released all 52 American hostages that it had been holding for 444 days after seizure of the American Embassy in Tehran, an act of war that doomed Carter’s reelection chances.
       c. 1999 China implemented new restrictions on internet access and use aimed at internet cafes.
       d. 2014 in a chilling reminder that cyber war is for real; 20 million South Koreans had their credit card files hacked into.
Reflections on life from George Burns: “Happiness? A good cigar, a good meal, and a good woman - or a bad woman; it depends on how much happiness you can handle.”
“I honestly think it is better to be a failure at something you love than to be a success at something you hate.”
It takes only one drink to get me drunk. The trouble is, I can't remember if it's the thirteenth or the fourteenth.”
