1. Ratification Day—celebrating ratification on this day in 1784 by the Senate of the Treaty of Paris which ended the Revolutionary War.

5. A Few Minutes Make Your Day—celebrating the birthday on this day in 1919 of one of the more colorful and incisive journalists and television personalities Andy Rooney who for many years prior to his death in 2011 closed 60 Minutes with a brief essay on life.

a. 1952 NBC’s long running morning news show Today hosted by David Garroway first aired.
b. 1967 in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco the Human Be-In occurred launching the Summer of Love—should bring back fond memories among the aging flower children of the 60’s.
c. 1973 Elvis Presley’s performance Aloha from Hawaii was broadcast live worldwide by satellite and is believed to be the most watched television performance by a single entertainer.
d. 2010 Yemen declared open war against al-Qaeda operating in the country; sadly and despite U.S. military assistance and drone strikes as the events in Paris and the training of the two gunmen in Yemen show, that war has not been won.
e. 2011 former Tunisian President fled from his country to Saudi Arabia due to nationwide protests and riots over his corruption and rule, marking the beginning of the Arab Spring and the subject overthrow of Mubarak and the killing of Khadafy.
