Ridley's Believe It Or Not-This Day In History-May 7, 2014 National Tourism Day

Ridley's Believe It Or Not—May 7, 2014:    As always, after some searching, I found these holidays worthy of mention here or celebrating in culinary fashion, to go with the factoids and quote to enjoy as you are getting ready to celebrate Mothers Day and are stressing out over what to get and how to celebrate the day.
             1. National Dance with the New Stars Day—celebrating the first dances at the first inaugural ball for President Washington in 1789 held in New York City.
             2. School  Nurse Day—celebrated since 1972 to honor  the contributions of school nurses in an educational setting.
              3. National Tourism Day—celebrating the contribution of tourists to the economy, which in California thank God is extremely significant—if you see someone taking a lot of pictures today of our attractions, beaches, parks, theme parks, etc. be nice to them as they are probably spending a good deal of money.
             4. Bike to School Day—may not be cool if you are in high school with a car, but a great way to conserve fossil fuels and dollars to spend on the limo for upcoming proms.
            5.  National Roast Leg of Lamb Day—celebrating a great meal idea—don’t forget the mint jelly.
 On this day in:
              a. 1952 the concept of the integrated circuit, the basis for computers, was first published by Geoffrey W. A. Dummer.
              b. 1992 in a true legislative super marathon moment, Michigan ratified a 203 year old proposed amendment to the Constitution making the 27th Amendment the law of the land which prevents Congress from giving itself a raise during midterm.
              c. 2004 in a chilling reminder of why Islamic jihadist terrorists, including the child abductors Boko Haram, have no place on this Earth and should be eradicated there from,  26 year old American businessman Nick Berg was abducted in Iraq and  beheaded on camera with the videotape released on the internet. His alleged killer Abu Musab al-Zakarqawi  was blown to pieces into Paradise  by two 500 pound bombs dropped by American F-15s on June 7, 2007.
A bit of insight from the women we have grown to dislike in spades in response to a question as  to why she opposed a Congressional pay cut: “I don't think we should do it; I think we should respect the work we do. I think it's necessary for us to have the dignity of the job that we have rewarded." Nancy Pelosi. Living proof of why we need term limits to spare us from career politicians in safe districts like Ms. Pelosi and why without term limits under any circumstances while she remains in office, the House must remain Red.
