Ridley’s Believe It Or Not February 3, 2021
CV World Cases: The CV pandemic across the planet continues the new year with surging cases now over 104 million at 104,201,132 with 544,811 new cases (a .52% increase) 25,915,407 of which are active, 78,686,844 closed with 76,414,150 recoveries (97.11% and 97.12% yesterday) and 2,272,694 deaths (2.89% and 2.88% yesterday) to continue the trend of increased cases with increased recovery percentages and decreased death percentages with some plateaus.
CV USA Cases: Total cases now over 27 million at 27,101,510 with 128,367 new cases (a .48% increase) with 9,807,712 active cases of which 23,641 (.24% of active cases and a decrease now of 5,630 from a peak of 29,271 on December 31) are in serious or critical condition, 17,293,798 closures, 460,388 of which have been deaths (2.66% and 2.66% yesterday) and 16,833,410 of which have been recoveries (97.34% and 97.34% yesterday). Our death rate percentage continues to improve and after many months is now .23% lower than the world rate and .08% lower than Canada which has the socialized type medicine Biden may well want to implement here and on a deaths per million population measurement on a steady climb to 1386 ranks behind Belgium (1822), UK (1606) which had passed us despite leading world in testing), and Italy (1487) and only slightly worse than Bulgaria (1327), Hungary (1321), Portugal (1302), Spain (1291), Peru (1242), Mexico (1230), France (1187), Sweden (1178) that never closed its economy down like we did but has recently been experiencing a rapid rise deaths, Switzerland (1096), Argentina (1066), Brazil (1062), Poland (1002), Chile (967), and Bolivia (893) and we have now conducted 316,570,606 tests (now at 953,053/M) compared to Russia at 704,247/M) as we are conducting more tests in number and on a per capital basis for all nations (other than those nations that contain small populations like Bahrain, Denmark, Israel, Malta, Singapore and UAE) other than the U.K. which remains off the testing charts with tests at 1,078,606/M.
US Vaccinations: In the U.S. as of 2/2/2021 33.7 million doses have been given, 1.32 million per day in the last week. In California 3,649,640 total doses have been given (64.4% of doses received), but typical of Newsom’s ineptness and the power of growing signatures on his recall petition, California has slightly improved is now at 25th out of 50 in terms of the percentage of doses administered as a percentage of doses delivered to the state. A long way to go to get herd immunity but some improvement relative to other states but still a good reason to recall this inept governor. As of 2/2/2021 in California we have reduced hospitalizations to 14,999 with COVID-19 patients hospitalized occupying 24.5% of all hospital beds.
Non CV Case News: AOC is being rightfully slammed for falsely claiming her life was in danger and almost murdered during the storming of the Capitol when she was not even there but in the Cannon House Building (gasoline on a fire is what you get form this inane leftist); when will the MSM force Kerry to his environmentally holier than thou attitude bury as he flies in a private jet to Iceland to accept Arctic Circle climate award as opposed on a commercial jet climb aboard (total sanctimonious hypocrite picked by Biden to be his “Climate Czar”)?; Biden’s misguided executive order to allow transgender males claiming female status to participate in women’s sports will decimate all the progress women have made in sports thanks to Title IX a point Biden’s pick for Education Secretary Miguel Cardona completely dodged Senator Rand Paul’s questions on that point; one party state New York has its Blues aiding in Cuomo’s cover-up of nursing home deaths scandal as they blocked attempts by Reds to subpoena records of nursing home deaths that Cuomo refuses to release; Liz Cheney who held the number 3 position in the Red Caucus of the House has easily survived a bid by conservative members to oust her given her vote to impeach Trump; the standard leftist chant that wealthy Americans need to pay their fair share of taxes is falling on deaf ears as the 1% of Americans who are the wealthiest pay 40.1% of the federal taxes in the nation; not sure whether it is the frustration over the stench of feces on the sidewalks or the inability to work because the schools in Feces City are not open to in person learning but San Francisco has become the first city to file suit against its own school board for failing to follow state guidelines and open its schools for in person learning; Lady Justice is supposed to be blind and not lie but in the case of Lying Adam Schiff’s push to be named California AG, if Newsom listens to him Newsom must be out of his mind (would be next to impossible to a more dishonest political hack find); the recall Gavin Newsom movement continues to gather signatures over 1.2 million and may have reached 1.3 million and enhanced by his failed policies the latest of which is the disaster of a vaccine rollout is fortunately moving forward to the required goal of 1.5 million signatures. https://recallgavin2020.com/petition/
Chicago Gun Violence: HeyJackass.com is back to show that through February 2, 2021, gun violence involving persons of color shooting persons of color in Chicago is alive and well with 256 persons shot of whom 55 have died.

1. National Girls and Women In Sports Day—created by a joint resolution of Congress in 1986 to honor the contributions of female athletes in sports and to our community as a whole, but sadly unless Biden does not come to his senses and rescind his inane executive order requiring transgenders to be able to compete in women’s sports, women’s participation will be decimated by transgender biologic males dominating the sports.
2. Take a Cruise Day—not sure who created this observance or when but one would celebrate it by being on a cruise which the industry would love to have you do but I suspect cruise ships actually sailing due to the CV panic are few and far between and the industry is awash in a sea of red ink with most of the cruise fleet moored.
3. 2004 Number One Song—the number 1 song in 2004 on this day with a run of 6 weeks in that position was “Hey Ya” by OutKast to join 11 other number 1 songs. Here is a recording of OutKast performing “Hey Ya”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PWgvGjAhvIw
4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “pyrene” which means a fruit-stone which is a fruit like a cherry, peach, apricot or plum.
5. Bad Blood—celebrating or if an investor bemoaning the birth on this day of Elizabeth Holmes, who dropped out of Stanford to form Theranos, a company which was supposed to have unique blood test technology that needed only a drop of blood and who raised millions at increasing valuations to become a billionaire only to have the investors and the SEC discover the representations made as to the results of the tests done to be fraudulent; she was criminally charged with fraud in March 2018 and after several delays some of which were caused by the CV pandemic is scheduled to go to trial in June of this year.
On this day in:
a. 1933 in an if the world had only listened moment Adolf Hitler spoke of the policy of Lebensraum into Eastern Europe and its ruthless Germanisation were the official policy goals of the Nazis.
b. 1959 in what would come to be known as “The Day the Music Died,” Buddy Holly, the “Big Bopper” and Ritchie Valens crashed in a private plane in bad weather near Clear Lake, Iowa, killing all aboard.
c. 1960 British Prime Minister Harold MacMillan spoke of the “winds of change” that signaled that Britain would support decolonization and the ultimate setting of the Sun on a reduced British Empire.
d. 1984 Doctor John Buster and his research team at UCLA Harbor Hospital announced the first embryo transfer from one woman to another 38 weeks earlier had
resulted in a live birth, the first of over 200,000 births that have subsequently resulted from his procedures over the years.
e. 1995 the Space Shuttle Discovery was launched and piloted by the first female, Eileen Collins to pilot a Space Shuttle and made the first docking at the Soviet’s MIR Space Station.
Reflections on the missing link to successful decolonization: “Always remember that the people are not fighting for ideas, nor for what is in men’s minds. The people fight and accept the sacrifices demanded by the struggle in order to gain material advantages, to live better and in peace, to benefit from progress, and for the better future of their children. National liberation, the struggle against colonialism, the construction of peace, progress and independence are hollow words devoid of any significance unless they can be translated into a real improvement of living conditions.”
― Amílcar Cabral, Return to the Source: Selected Speeches of Amilcar Cabral Cabral was a noted anti-colonialist in the fight for independence of Guinea-Bissau but was assassinated 6 months before independence by disgruntled members of his party seeking independence.
