Ridley’s Believe It Or Not February 20, 2021
CV World Cases: The CV
pandemic across the planet continues the new year with surging cases now
over 111 million at 110,779,817 with 819,866 new cases (a .74% increase) 22,309,562
of which are active, 89,290,121 closed with 86,818,918 recoveries
(97.23% and 97.22% yesterday) and 2,471,203 deaths (2.77% and 2.78% yesterday)
to continue the trend of increased cases with increased
recovery percentages and decreased death percentages with some plateaus.
CV USA Cases: Total cases now
over 28 million at 28,671,866 with 159,581 new cases (a .56% increase) with 9,278,877
active cases of which 17,624 (.19% of active cases and a decrease now of 11,647
from a peak of 29,271 on December 31) are in serious or critical condition,
19,392,989 closures, 509,707 of which have been deaths (2.63% and 2.62%
yesterday) and 18,883,282 of which have been recoveries (97.37% and 97.37%
yesterday). Our death rate percentage continues to improve and after many
months is now .14% lower than the world rate and now .04% lower than Canada
which has the socialized type medicine Biden may well want to implement
here and on a deaths per million population measurement on a steady
climb to 1534 ranks behind Belgium (1881), UK (1767) which had passed us
despite leading world in testing), Italy (1581), and Portugal (1562) and only
slightly worse than Hungary (1478), Spain
(1435), Bulgaria (1423), Mexico (1379), Peru (1349), France (1287),
Sweden (1248) that never closed its economy down like we did but has recently
been experiencing a rapid rise in deaths, Brazil (1152), Switzerland
(1137), Argentina (1125), Poland (1113), Chile (1039), and Bolivia (967) and we
have now conducted 344,394,109 tests (now at 1,036,579/M) compared to
Russia at 744,651/M) as we are conducting more tests in number and
on a per capital basis for all nations (other than those nations that contain
small populations like Bahrain, Denmark, Israel, Malta, Singapore
and UAE) other than the U.K. which remains off the testing charts with tests at
1,243,644/M.
US Vaccinations: In the
U.S. as of 2/19/2021 60.5 million doses have been given, 1.49 million per day
in the last week (sounds impressive but if the rate does not increase it will
take us some 9 months to have 75% of the population vaccinated which many
believe is necessary to develop herd immunity. In California 6,929,954 total
doses have been given (up to 79.5% of doses received), but typical of Newsom’s
ineptness and because more than 1.5 million recall signatures have been turned
in, due to the power of growing signatures on his recall petition, California
has moved up slightly to now at 36th out of 50 in terms of the
percentage of doses administered as a percentage of doses delivered to the
states. A long way to go to get herd immunity and little improvement relative
to other states and a great reason to recall this inept governor. As of 2/17/2021
in California we have reduced hospitalizations to 8,156/M with COVID-19
patients hospitalized occupying 13.4% of all hospital beds.
Non CV Case News: The friendly
skies were not so but rather scary as a Boeing 777 some 20 miles outside of
Denver had an engine failure resulting in some large parts hitting the ground
but not hurting anyone and fortunately landing safely; in another example of
the need for a 2nd Amendment and a reinforcement of the adage that
criminals are not the brightest, a suspect who shot and killed 2 and wounded 2
at a gun store and indoor shooting range near New Orleans was shot and killed
by armed Good Samaritan bystanders; the
Blues failed attempt with a snap impeachment to forever bar Trump from office
has failed as he is back and will speak at the CPAC Convention on February 28
in Orlando; Markey should be ashamed of himself for the reverse racist card
saying social justice should determine who gets vaccinated (safe bet is that
this 74 year old pulled all the strings there to get vaccinated); the Oakley
Elementary School Board caught on a hot mic ridiculing and attacking parents
wanting to have schools opened did the right thing and resigned en masse (would
be nice but don’t count on it for Cuomo to ape them); L.A. DA Gascon is back in
the news again with the same sad residents’ safety be dammed event as he orders
his prosecutor not to seek the death penalty of a cop killer gang member (as
shootings rise and crime rises in L.A. when do the residents say enough of the
misguided Soros funded pro criminal D.A. and seek to recall him?); never
underestimate Blues ability to find ways to spend more money disguised as being
under the best of motives as the CV stimulus bill has a $100 million plus goody
for a BART extension that has nothing whatsoever to do with the CV pandemic; although
80% of the recall Newsom signatures have been verified, signature drive
continues to insure a recall in the event that any of the 1.5 million
signatures already received are not valid to insure Newsom is put on a recall
ballot where he needs to be given his unmitigated ineptness: https://recallgavin2020.com/petition/
Chicago Gun
Violence: HeyJackass.com is back to show that through February 19, 2021, gun
violence involving mostly persons of color shooting persons of color in Chicago
is alive and well with 362 persons shot of whom 78 have died.
As always, I

1. World Day of
Social Justice—created by the General Assembly on November 20, 2007 to be
celebrated on this day starting in 2009 to promote by member nations social
justice within their nation.
2. World Pangolin
Day—observed
since 2011 to promote conservation of pangolins or spiny anteaters that are
rapidly becoming endangered due to the Chinese desire to use their scales in
folk medicine and their meat as a delicacy.
3. 2019 Number One Song—the number 1 song in 2019 on this day with a run of 5 weeks in
that position was “7 Rings” by Ariana Grande to join 15 other number 1 songs.
Here is a recording of Ariana Grande singing “7 Rings”: m https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYh6YIJG2Y Grande
is a highly successful singer with 5 platinum albums and had the misfortune to
be performing in Manchester in 2017 closing just before a terrorist attack on
fans in attendance by terrorists.
4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the
day is “quiddative” which means eccentric which in our increasingly PC world
seems to have become more all inclusive of those who do not seem to conform.
5. A Good Son--celebrating the
birth on this day in 1951 of noted actor Edward Albert, son of Eddie Albert who
appeared in more than 153 movies and TV series and cared for his father
suffering from Alzheimer’s but was a smoker and died from lung cancer on September
22, 2006.
On
this day in:
a. 1872 The
Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art opened in New York City.
b. 1933 to the dismay
of bootleggers like Capone, Congress passed the Blaine Act repealing Prohibition
and sending the 21st Amendment to the states for ratification.
c. 1956
the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy became a permanent Service Academy.
d. 1962 Astronaut
John Glenn became the first American to orbit Earth in 3 orbits in 4 hours 55
minutes and later on a Shuttle Mission became the oldest person to orbit into
space.
e. 2003 in a Great White Concert at the
Station Nightclub in West Warwick Nightclub in Rhode Island, a pyrotechnic display gone wrong caused a fire
that killed 100 and injured 200 more in attendance.
Reflections on the 21st which is the only
Amendment to repeal a prior Amendment the 19th : “It seems almost a geologic epoch while it was going on, and the
human suffering that it entailed must have been a fair match for that of the
Black Death or the Thirty Years War.” H.L. Mencken, noted essayist and commentator
