Ridley’s Believe It Or Not August 8, 2020
CV World Cases: The CV pandemic across the planet continues with 302,349 new cases (a 1.56% increase compared to a 1.55% increase yesterday) to bring the total 20 nearing 20 19 million to 19,703,166 cases, 6,332,458 of which are active, 13,370,708 of which have been closed with 12,643,677 recoveries (94.56% compared to yesterday’s 94.53%) and 727,031 deaths (5.44% compared to yesterday’s 5.47%) to continue the trend of increased recovery percentages and decreased mortality percentages.
CV USA Cases: New cases of 384,159 with total cases exceeding 5 million at 5,120,970 (a 8.11% increase compared to yesterday’s 6.7% increase) with 2,336,237 active cases of which 18,038 (18,279 yesterday) are in serious or critical condition as trend continues to go down, and 2,784,733 closures, 164,577 of which have been deaths (5.91% compared to yesterday’s 5.94%) and 2,620,156 of which have been recoveries (94.09% compared to yesterday’s 94.06%) (our death rate percentages continue to improve and are finally in single digits since Cuomo repealed his order sending CV positive patients on May 10 but remain higher than the world probably due to idiots like Cuomo sending positive CV patients into nursing homes to infect the residents and staff who then die and accounted for some 40% of our deaths. We have now conducted 64,610,547 tests (over 710,000 more than yesterday).
Non CV Case News: Pelosi and Schumer are digging in their heals on demanding states be allowed to engage in practices that will almost certainly guarantee fraud—distribution of mail in ballots to all voters on a registration voter list with no restrictions on harvesting (we have already seen in one New York primary 20% of the ballots tossed and will see a post office not equipped to handle such increased volume); as a result of such delay Trump announced he will sign an executive order to continue enhanced federal unemployment at $400 a week to end of year, extend eviction protection, help to students making student loan payments and suspend payroll tax until end of year but executive order is without the $1200 stimulus checks, money to help schools open safely and litigation protection for businesses that open in accordance with approved safety guidelines (Pelosi consistent with her inane comment on the tax cut being crumbs ranted that Trump is “nickel and diming” efforts to fight the pandemic); “respectable” China has a 260 vessel strong fishing fleet faking its location as it nears protected waters of the Galapagos; In a glaring and despicable example of why no company in their right mind would deal with the Chinese here is a great article on a start-up nearing production of an electric SUV that was essentially stolen from its founders by a Chinese provincial government https://www.foxbusiness.com/markets/china-coronavirus-nationalize-america-owned-car-company; intel has it that Iran is working to undermine Trump’s reelection and Russia still smarting from Hunter’s Burisma gold mine is working to undermine Biden; Susan Rice, who is as honest as the day is long on the Winter Solstice, is defying Reds to attack her role in Benghazi while slamming Reds for not criticizing the DOD for not properly vetting the Saudi airman who killed 3 Americans at Pensacola; Hog riders must believe that Hogs trump COVID-19 worries any day of the week as they descend by the thousands riding their Harleys on Sturgis, South Carolina (kudos to Governor Noem for not shutting Sturgis Rally down).
Chicago/Baltimore Gun Violence: In Chicago as of August 7, 2020, the number of shootings increased by 19 average aimed shots to 2,413, of whom 3 more have died to raised the total to 425 (total travesty of BLM when blacks are shot and killed by blacks in droves and only sounds of silence and complete absence of any protests in front of City Hall demanding action to curb the killings and shootings); Baltimore with a fraction of Chicago’s population and hoping against all hopes that 2020 will not be a record in terms of deaths but now seems to be shooting less and killing less and is 223 behind Chicago now at 202 murders (when will Chicago and Baltimore get serious about this carnage or is this the case of true racism as a Blue run city turns a deaf ear and a blind eye to the slaughter of people of color by people of color and when will the left focus on the problem of color on color shootings in Blue run cities which have been way more deadly and way more numerous than shootings by police or random mass shootings?).

1. International Cat Day—created by the International Fund for Animal Welfare in 2002 to promote awareness of the need to care for and protect cats which have been prized since Egyptian times and are estimated to number 600 million all of whom exhibit an independent streak but far too many are seeking adoption from shelters.
2. Happiness Happens Day—created by the Secret Society of Happy People in August of 1998 to promote happiness and celebrated since August 8, 1999 as the first anniversary of the first member joining the SHOP—in an election year beset with demonization and bitterness a great day to take a breather and be thankful for the things and people that bring you happiness.
3. 2007 Number One Song— the number 1 song in 2007 on this day on a run of 2 weeks was “Hey There Delilah” by Plain White T’s in their first number 1 song. Here is a recording of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_m-BjrxmgI . This group of high school friends was formed in 1997 and started out playing in punk rock shows and self funded the production of its first album in 2002 and was off to the races and still recording and playing today as a 5 person band with Higgenson and Tirio as the originals members.
4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “pentagamist” means a person who has or has had five wives and should be pitied given the alimony he might be stuck with.
5. And The Band Played On—celebrating the birth on this day in 1951 of Randy Shilts, noted author and first openly gay reporter for the San Francisco Chronicle who contracted AIDs and the band stopped playing on his dead from in on February 17, 1994 at the age of 43.

Reflections on cats on International Cat Day: ” Owners of dogs will have noticed that, if you provide them with food and water and shelter and affection, they will think you are god. Whereas owners of cats are compelled to realize that, if you provide them with food and water and shelter and affection, they draw the conclusion that they are gods.”― Christopher Hitchens, The Portable Atheist: Essential Readings for the Nonbeliever
