August 15, 2020 Ridley's Believe It Or Not Victory Day

Ridley's Believe It Or Not August 15, 2020

CV World Cases: The CV pandemic across the planet continues with 366,289 new cases (a 1.73%  increase compared to a .79% increase yesterday) to bring the total past 21 million to 21,494,959 cases, 6,480,856   of  which  are active, 15,014,103 of which have been closed with 14,247,938 recoveries (94.90% compared to  yesterday’s 94.85%) and 766,165  deaths (5.1% compared to yesterday’s 5.15%) to continue the trend of increased recovery percentages and decreased mortality percentages.

CV USA Cases: New cases of 152,023 with total cases exceeding 5 million at 5,500,459 (a 2.84% increase compared to yesterday’s 1.3% increase) with 2,448,692 active cases of which 17,218, on a downward trend from over 19,000 in the last 2 weeks (17,239 yesterday), are in serious or critical condition as trend continues to go down, and 3,051,667 closures, 172,099 of which have been deaths (5.64% compared to yesterday’s 5.65%) and 2,879,668 of which have been recoveries (94.36% compared to yesterday’s 94.35%) (our death rate percentages continue to improve and are finally in single digits since Cuomo repealed his order sending CV positive patients on May 10 but remain higher than the world probably due to idiots like Cuomo sending positive CV patients into nursing homes to infect the residents and staff who then die and accounted for some 40% of our deaths. We have now conducted  70,157,541 tests (over 827,000 more tests than those done yesterday).
Non CV Case News: Queen Elizabeth, President Trump and Emperor Nurahito observed in their respective countries the Vict Ove Japan; Iran is rattling sabers big time against the U.A.E. peace deal with Israel brokered by the U.S. and warned it faced “a dangerous future” while in bias by omission MSNBC and CNN largely ignored the agreement and Biden who presided over 8 years of the worst relations we have ever had with Israel had the audacity to try to claim credit for the deal due to the “foundational work” done by the Obama-Biden Administration (what a disingenuous piece of crock); an L.A. Superior Ct. has ruled against L.A. County seeking a TRO banning Grace Community Church from holding indoor services while taking no moves to curb massive protests; the Catholic Church is slamming Kamala Harris for her apparent view the judicial nominees who are catholics cannot be appointed to the bench because of the church’s views on abortion; Kennedy is on board a King Crab fishing boat in the Bering Sea tonight at 6:00 p.m.  PDT (for an iambic preview description https://alaskanpoet.blogspot.com/2020/08/foxs-kennedy-joins-deadliest-catch.html; Mayor De Blasio continues to prove he is totally clueless in running NYC when he cancelled NYC’s 9/11 Tribute of light which fortunately Cuomo and Bloomberg have stepped up to the plate to provide needed support (why Democrats after watching DeBlasio interact with the NYPD are outraged that the NYPD Police  Union is backing Trump must reveal they are deaf and blind); 5 year old Cannon Hinnart shot in the head by Darius Sessons his black next door neighbor who had had dinner with the family the night before and enjoyed an after dinner beer with them on on his family’s front porch (from the MSM probably because it did not advance the BLM narrative almost a complete news blackout of the shooting); the Lake Fire in Los Angeles County has expanded to over 14,000 acres and only 12 % contained as fire fighters struggle with triple digit heat.

Chicago/Baltimore Gun Violence: In Chicago as of August 13, 2020, the number of shootings increased by 19 well aimed shootings to 2,493, of whom 6 died to raise the total 2  435 (total travesty of BLM when blacks are shot and killed by blacks in droves and only sounds of silence and complete absence of any protests in front of City Hall demanding action to curb the killings and shootings); Baltimore with a fraction of Chicago’s population and hoping against all hopes that 2020 will not be a record in terms of deaths but now seems to be shooting less and killing less and is now 228 behind Chicago now at 207 murders (when will Chicago and Baltimore get serious about this carnage or is this the case of true racism as a Blue run city turns a deaf ear and a blind eye to the slaughter of people of color by people of color and when will the left focus on the problem of color on color shootings in Blue run cities which  have  been way  more  deadly and  way  more  numerous  than  shootings  by  police or

random mass shootings?).

As always, I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, factoids of interest for this day in history, a musical link to Magic!, the fact that you are perfervid when it comes to Trump,   and a quote by Larry Elder on the problems facing Social Security, secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like Father’s Day, college graduations, birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient. 1. Chauvin Day—creating not those men who believe in the superiority of men over women or the Chauvin whose knee on George Floyd’s neck killed him but a  19th Century French patriot Nicolas Chauvin who fought for him and believed he could do no wrong and for his support we get the word “chauvinism.”

   2. Victory Day—celebrated this day in 1945 when Emperor Hirohito addressed the Japanese people and instructed them to stop fighting although formal instruments of surrender were not signed until September 2, 1945 on the USS Missouri in Toyko Bay.
   3.
2015 Number One Song— the number 1 song in 2015 on this day on a run of 4 weeks was “Cheerleader” by Omi in his first number 1 song. Here is a recording of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jGflUbPQfW8 This Jamacian reggae singer has been in the business since 2011.

   4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “perficient” which means actually achieving a result, a characteristic other than perhaps Trump most politicians severely lack.

   5. Wrong Bullets Do Have Names—celebrating the birthday on this day in 1985 of noted rapper Ermias Joseph Asghedom better known to his fans as Nipsey Hussle who left home at 14 to become a Crips and become a rap star but sadly even with his hit mixtapes like “Bullets Ain’t Got No Name” they had his and on March 31, 2019 he was shot 10 times in front of his Marathon Clothing Store; his suspected killer Eric Holder, Jr. (no relation to the former Obama AG)  was arrested and is awaiting trial which was supposed to have begun in April but has been delayed due to the CV pandemic.
    On this day in:

   a. 1961 East German Border Guard Hans Konrad Schuman in an escape caught on film jumped over barbed wire separating East Berlin from West Berlin to escape into West Berlin.

    b. 1969 the 3 day Woodstock Music Festival in upstate New York which drew some 400,000 fans despite sporadic rain began.

    c. 1975 Japanese Premier Takeo Miko on the 30th anniversary of Victory Over Japan became the first Prime Minister to the Yasokuni Shrine to commemorate Japanese war dead.

    d. 1995 after a court fight that went all the way to SCOTUS, Shannon Faulkner became the first woman to be admitted to The Citadel and after being laid low by heat stroke 4 hours into her first day of cadet training was admitted to the infirmary and resigned from the school a week later. Today some 9% of the cadets are female.

    e. 2005 Israel’s unilateral plan to remove Jewish settlers from 4 settlements in the Gaza Strip began.

Reflections on the need for Japan to surrender: “To strive for the common prosperity and happiness of all nations, as well as the security and wellbeing of our subjects, is the solemn obligation which has been handed down by our imperial ancestors and which lies close to our heart. The enemy has begun to employ a new and most cruel bomb, the power of which to do damage is, indeed, incalculable, taking the toll of many innocent lives. Should we continue to fight, not only would it result in an ultimate collapse and obliteration of the Japanese nation, but also it would lead to the total extinction of human civilization."  Emperor Hirohito August 15, 1945
