Ridley’s Believe It
Or Not For July 15, 2020
CV
World: The CV pandemic across the planet continues with 262,108
new cases (a 1.96% increase compared to a 1.63% increase
yesterday) to bring the total to nearing 14 million at 13,603,5746 cases, 5,065,217
of which are active, 8,540,357 of which have
been closed with 7,956,351 recoveries (93.16% compared
to yesterday’s 93.09%) and 584,006 deaths (6.84%
compared to yesterday’s 6.91%) to continue the trend of increased recovery
percentages and decreased mortality percentages.
CV
USA: New cases of 152,317 with total cases of 3,590,944 (a 4.43%
increase compared to yesterday’s 2.01% increase) with 1,826,680 active
cases of which 16,307 (15,949 yesterday) are in serious or critical condition,
an increasing stat that is troublesome and 1,764,264 closures, 139,705 of which have been deaths (7.92%
compared to yesterday’s 8.14%) and 1,624,559 of which have
been recoveries (92.08% compared to yesterday’s 91.86%) (our death rate
percentages continue to improve and are finally in single digits since
Cuomo repealed his order sending CV positive patients on May 10 but remain
higher than the world probably due to idiots like Cuomo sending positive CV
patients into nursing homes to infect the residents and staff who then die and
accounted for some 40% of our deaths with 44,844,982 tests (so much for
Biden’s claim of lack of testing by Trump and implications Trump is slowing
testing to hide CV increases).
Non
CV News: The CV pandemic has once again shown it ignores party as Red Governor
of Oklahoma Stitt announced he has become the first governor with the corona
virus with minor symptoms and will be self isolating (he attended Trump rally
in Tulsa without a mask but experts believe he did not become infected); SCOTUS
Justice Ginsburg trip to the hospital must have had the left in total fear but
she once again proves she is like the Energizer Rabbit and keeps on beating the
drum and is released from the hospital while proclaiming she is cancer free; shootings
and physical attacks on police in NYC continue unabated as De Blasio becomes
the new Nero playing a fiddle as the city is bathed in the flames of gunshot
flashes; the New York State PBA has demanded that following De Blasio’s signing
of legislation exposing them to criminal and civil liability if they put pressure
on a person’s neck or chest while trying to make an arrest the 200 officers
stationed there be withdrawn; Kareem Abdul Jabbar in attacking sports figures
and celebrities for their anti-Semitic remarks hit the nail on the head with
his observation “no one is free until everyone is free.” (excellent ideas more
of us should be paying attention to instead of ad hominem attacks); in Chicago
as of July 14, 2020, the number of shootings increased by 29 to 1992, of whom
361 have died (so much for the defund the police movement and for
the effectiveness of Chicago’s stay at home order and a complete dereliction of
duty by Mayor Lightfoot other than swearing at people outraged over the
killings); Baltimore with a fraction of Chicago’s population and hoping against
all hopes that 2020 will not be a record in terms of deaths but now seems to be
shooting less and killing less and is now 186 behind Chicago now at 175 murders
(when will Chicago and Baltimore get serious about this carnage or is this the
case of true racism as a Blue run city turns a deaf ear and a blind eye to the
slaughter of people of color by people of color and when will the left focus on
the problem of color on color shootings in Blue run cities which have been more
deadly and more numerous than shootings by police or random mass shootings?).
As always,
I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, factoids of interest
for this day in history, a musical link to The Police, the fact
that are rarely flustered by a paromoeon, and a quote on the coffee and
Alzheimer’s disease by Doctor Mehmet Oz secure in the
knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like
Father’s Day, college graduations, birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries,
you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized
poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient. You
need only contact me for details.
1. Take
Your Poet to Work Day—celebrating a day to take a book marker shaped like
the head of a poet to work with a favorite book that you could read during
breaks and lunch assuming you have not lost your job due to the CV pandemic.
2. Income
Tax Pay Day—celebrating in one of the few silver linings of
the CV pandemic cloud, the fact that today rather than April 15, 2020 is the
day to file and pay your taxes.
3. 1983 Number One Song— the
number 1 song in 1983 on this day on a run of 8 weeks was “Every Breath You
Take” by The Police in the group’s first number 1 song. Here is recording of
the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMOGaugKpzs. This
English band was formed in 1977, was popular in the early 80’s and after
winning 6 Grammys disbanded for good after a final tour that ended in 2008.
4. Word
of the Day—today’s word of the day is “paromoeon” which
means alliteration which is often used in tongue twisters.
5. Life
Can Be Better with a Pitt—celebrating the birth on this day in 1931 of
noted oceanographer, antique car collector and prolific author extolling the
virtues and escapades of Dirk Pitt, Clive Cussler, whose pen was taken away
from him for good on February 24, 2020 at the age of 88.
On
this day
in:
a. 1910
Emil Kraepelin in his book Clinical
Psychiatry gave a name to a disease the elderly and their loved ones would learn
to fear big time, Alzheimer’s disease after his colleague Lois Alzheimer who
was the first person to publish a reference to presenile dementia.
b. 1959
in what can only be described as job security suicide for members of the United
Steelworkers Union, the 116 day nationwide steel strike started which led to
significant importation of foreign produced steel for the first time in this
nation’s history.
c.
1979 President Carter gave what has come to be known as his “malaise speech”
which in all likelihood along with the seizure of our Embassy in Tehran set the
stage for Reagan to win the presidency.
d.
2002 the “American Taliban” pled guilty to possessing explosives and conspiracy
to killing Americans and was sentenced to 20 years and was released on supervised
parole for 3 years on May 23, 2019.
e.
2016 factions of the Turkish Armed Forces unsuccessfully attempted a coup
against the regime of Turkish President Erdogan. .
Reflections
on Alzheimer’s disease: “You get the health benefits of coffee up
through about the first twenty-four ounces. It's the biggest source of
antioxidants for Americans, and we think it helps prevent Alzheimer's and
Parkinson's as well.” Doctor Mehmet Oz, noted surgeon and television
personality. If he is right on this, time to spend more time at Starbucks when
they reopen and start buying its stock.
