Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For July 13, 2020
CV World: The CV pandemic across the planet continues with 181,060 new cases (a 1.4% increase compared to a 1.72% increase yesterday) to bring the total to nearly 13 million at 13,127,791 cases, 4,914,275 of which are active, 8,213,516 of which have been closed with 7,640,334 recoveries (93.02% compared to yesterday’s 92.98%) and 573,182 deaths (6.98% compared to yesterday’s 7.02%).
CV USA: New cases of 245,073 with total cases of 3,438,627 (a 7.67% increase compared to yesterday’s 6.07% increase) with 1,781,553 active cases of which 15,813 (15,802 yesterday) are in serious or critical condition and 1,657,074 closures, 137,873 of which have been deaths (8.32% compared to yesterday’s 8.38%) and 1,519,2011 of which have been recoveries (91.68% compared to yesterday’s 91.63%) (our death rate percentages continue to improve and are finally in single digits since Cuomo repealed his order sending CV positive patients on May 10 but remain higher than the world probably due to idiots like Cuomo sending positive CV patients into nursing homes to infect the residents and staff who then die and accounted for some 40% of our deaths with 43,035,291 tests (so much for Biden’s claim of lack of testing by Trump and implications Trump is slowing testing to hide CV increases).
Non CV News: Newsom is reshutting California down in its indoor non essential activities including churches and places of worship in total disregard of the first amendment and forming strike teams to insure compliance (I will bet a dime against a dollar that Newsom’s EDD is still melted down and unable to pay out unemployment compensation); under the red herring of protecting our kids but in reality due to the fact that the LA School Unions did not get their wish to close down charter schools, defund the school police and obtain Medicare for all, have forced the LA School District to not open in the fall; as the number of jobless has risen across the nation so has the cry from state and local taxing authorities to raise taxes like property taxes to meet the revenue shortfall (California has on the ballot a proposition that will remove Prop 13’s cap on business and commercial property that is enjoyed by residential owners—great way to increase movement of businesses and jobs outside the state); although the number of new jobless claims have dropped for the 14th week in a row, close to 50 million Americans are out of work and the additional $600 a week in unemployment benefits from the feds terminates at the end of the month (Secretary Mnuchin has set a July 20 date for passage of any new stimulus legislation); District Court Judge Jackson who has been accused of bias toward Roger Stone has demanded the government explain the details of Trump’s commutation and whether it includes the $20,000 fine and 24 months of supervised release; AOC doesn’t disappoint us on the stupidity chart blaming murder explosions in NYC due to need to feed families; the PC thin skinned warriors have claimed another scalp as the Washington Redskins announced the team was retiring the name and reviewing ideas for replacement (how about “Spineless Urchins”?); the fire is still raging on the USS Bonhomme Richard moored at San Diego and the injury toll has risen to 57; in Chicago as of July 12, 2020, the number of shootings increased to 1963, of whom 357 have died (so much for the defund the police movement and for the effectiveness of Chicago’s stay at home order and a complete dereliction of duty by Mayor Lightfoot other than swearing at people outraged over the killings); Baltimore with a fraction of Chicago’s population and hoping against all hopes that 2020 will not be a record in terms of deaths but now seems to be shooting less and killing less and is now 182 behind Chicago now at 175 murders (when will Chicago and Baltimore get serious about this carnage or is this the case of true racism as a Blue run city turns a deaf ear and a blind eye to the slaughter of people of color by people of color and when will the left focus on the problem of color on color shootings in Blue run cities which have been more deadly and more numerous than shootings by police or random mass shootings?).

3. 1981 Number One Song— the number 1 song in 1981 on this day on a run of 9 weeks but not continuous in that position was “Bette Davis Eyes” by Kim Carnes in her first number 1 song. Here is recording of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPOIS5taqA8. She is still performing living in Nashville , married since 1967 with two sons, one of whom Collin has co-written several songs with her.
4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “parlous” which means full of danger or risk which to many Trump supporters defines what a Biden presidency would look like to the nation.
5. Like Grandfather Like Grandson--celebrating the birth on this day in 1988 of noted actor Steven R. McQueen who is a small screen TV actor and has the lineage from an acting standpoint of being the grandson of noted actor Steve McQueen.
On this day in:
a. 1956 at Dartmouth, the 8 week Dartmouth Summer Research Project on Artificial Intelligence, the first of its kind on artificial intelligence, convened in its first meeting.
b. 1973 in a revelation that would culminate in Nixon’s resignation, Alexander Butterfield revealed the existence of a secret taping system in the White House which Nixon, falsely believing it would never be uncovered or if so would never see the light of day of Congressional inquiry never erased the tapes, a lesson well learned by HRC concerning her private email server.
c. 1977 amidst a fiscal crisis and the fears of the Son of Sam, New York City was hit with a massive blackout that resulted in 1616 stores being looted and damaged, over 1000 fires being set, 3776 people being arrested and over $300 million in property damages.
d. 1985 Vice President George H.W. Bush became Acting President for a day when Ronald Reagan underwent surgery to remove polyps in his colon.
e. 2016 David Cameroon resigned as Prime Minister of the UK and was replaced by Theresa May.
Reflections on the 1977 NYC Blackout:” We've seen our citizens subjected to violence, vandalism, theft, and discomfort. The Blackout has threatened our safety and has seriously impacted our economy. We've been needlessly subjected to a night of terror in many communities that have been wantonly looted and burned. The costs when finally tallied will be enormous.” New York City Mayor Abe Beam
