July 31, 2020 Ridley's Believe It Or Not National Mutt Daykon

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not July 31, 2020
CV World: The CV pandemic across the planet continues with 190,557 new cases  (a 1.10%  increase compared to a 1.75% increase yesterday) to bring the total over 17  million to 17,541,624 cases, 5,871,720   of  which  are active, 11,669,904 of which have been closed with 10,991,964 recoveries (94.19% compared to  yesterday’s 94.15%) and 677,940  deaths (5.81% compared to yesterday’s 5.85%) to continue the trend of increased recovery percentages and decreased mortality percentages.
CV USA: New cases of 237,702 with total cases surging to over 4 million of 4,398,184 (a 5.40% increase compared to yesterday’s 4.88% increase) with 2,194,279 active cases of which 18,783 (18,853 yesterday) are in serious or critical condition continuing a decreasing trend, and 2,441,607 closures, 155,330 of which have been deaths (6.36% compared to yesterday’s 6.41%) and 2,286,277 of which  have been recoveries (93.64%  compared to yesterday’s 93.59%) (our death rate percentages continue to improve and are finally in single digits since Cuomo repealed his order sending CV positive patients on May 10 but remain higher than the world probably due to idiots like Cuomo sending positive CV patients into nursing homes to infect the residents and staff who then die and accounted for some 40% of our deaths with 58,579,205  tests (with more than a million more tests from yesterday so much for Biden’s claim of lack of testing by Trump and implications Trump is slowing testing to hide CV increases).
Non CV News: Fauci has testified to what Trump has been saying since day one of the pandemic, that Trump’s early actions in the pandemic saved lives. our CV testing czar has indicated we should start seeing the number of deaths decreasing soon which I have already seen in a daily reduction in the percentages of deaths of closed cases and a corresponding increase in the percentages of recoveries; a federal appellate court has vacated the death penalty of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the Boston Marathon Bomber due to the failure of the trial judge to properly vet jurors on the issue of pretrial publicity (prosecutors can appeal en banc, retry the penalty phase or elect not to pursue the death penalty); Meghan McCain, the only voice of sanity on an otherwise clueless The View slammed Dr. Fauci for his view that protests can spread the virus but refused to opine whether limits should be placed on the amount of protesters; the reptilian brain seems to be alive and well in the entertainment world as 4 women have come forward to accuse actor and comedian Bryan Callen of sexual assault and misconduct; when it rains it pours as Alaska battling the COVID-19 virus is facing a surge in syphilis cases; Dr. Alveda King, the niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. slammed Obama for his politicization of Lewis’s funeral; good news for Pelosi, the Botox Queen, as a new study shows that Botox use may deter depression which she must feel every time she sees or listens to Trump; Bill Clinton has been named in court documents as a person who flew on Epstein’s plane and stayed on Epstein’s Island (do not be surprised if it comes out that Clinton had several trysts with minors while there).
Chicago/Baltimore Gun Violence: In Chicago as of July 30, 2020, the number of shootings increased by 18 to 2,307, of whom 405 have died (so much for the defund the police movement and  for the effectiveness of Chicago’s stay at home order and a complete dereliction of duty by Mayor Lightfoot other than swearing at people outraged over the killings); Baltimore with a fraction of Chicago’s population and hoping against all hopes that 2020 will not be a record in terms of deaths but now seems to be shooting less and killing less and is now 212 behind Chicago now at 193 murders (when will Chicago and Baltimore get serious about this carnage or is this the case of true racism as a Blue run city turns a deaf ear and a blind eye to the slaughter of people of color by people of color and when will the left focus on the problem of color on color shootings in Blue run cities which have been more deadly and more numerous than shootings by police or random mass shootings?).
As always, I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, factoids of interest for this day in history,  a musical link to Christina Aquilera, the fact that when approaching a problem you can act pedetentous,  and a quote from James Nesbitt on Northern Ireland,  secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like Father’s Day, college graduations, birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.

 e. 2012 Michael Phelps broke the Olympic record for most medals by an athlete, 18, held by a Russian gymnast Larisa Semyonovna Latynina (his record stands at 28).
Reflections on the Troubles in Northern Ireland: “Funnily enough, Northern Ireland is a great example of where politics can win over conflict. The decision to down arms and follow a political path would have been unthinkable once. It shows just what is possible.” James Nesbitt, noted actor and television presenter from Northern Ireland.

Jul;y 30, 2020 Ridley's Believe It Or Not National Whistle Blowers Day

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not July 30, 2020
CV World: The CV pandemic across the planet continues with 297,906 new cases  (a 1.75%  increase compared to a 2.17% increase yesterday) to bring the total over 17  million to 17,351,067 cases, 5,844,225   of  which  are active, 11,506,842 of which have been closed with 10,833,564 recoveries (94.15% compared to  yesterday’s 93.99%) and 673,270  deaths (5.85% compared to yesterday’s 6.01%) to continue the trend of increased recovery percentages and decreased mortality percentages.
CV USA: New cases of 214,523 with total cases surging to over 4 million of 4,398,184 (a 4.88% increase compared to yesterday’s 3.21% increase) with 2,200,050 active cases of which 18,853 (19,015 yesterday) are in serious or critical condition continuing a decreasing trend, and 2,412,657 closures, 154,708 of which have been deaths (6.41% compared to yesterday’s 6.46%) and 2,257,949 of which  have been recoveries (93.59%  compared to yesterday’s 93.54%) (our death rate percentages continue to improve and are finally in single digits since Cuomo repealed his order sending CV positive patients on May 10 but remain higher than the world probably due to idiots like Cuomo sending positive CV patients into nursing homes to infect the residents and staff who then die and accounted for some 40% of our deaths with  57,521,144  tests (with almost a million more tests from yesterday so much for Biden’s claim of lack of testing by Trump and implications Trump is slowing testing to hide CV increases).
Non CV News: As new surveys show an overwhelming negative view of China over the CV pandemic and blame it for allowing its spread (Senator Feinstein who for many years employed a spy from China is blind to the fact that the “Winds of Freedom Do Not Blow” in China and claiming this hacker and their of our IP is a “respectable nation” comes out against Americans suing China for damages and death from the CV virus pandemic); Washington, D.C. schools will open on August 31, but only virtually until November 1 as the teacher’s union is refusing to work if the schools are deemed unsafe and Bowser implying that if the schools are deemed safe then she may find adults to replace teachers who then refuse to return (in another glaring example of the lack of equal opportunity a new study revealed that 44% of public school attendees who are mostly black lack access to a computer or the internet); the 5th stimulus package is dead in the water as Blues will not consent to a reduction of the $600 per week unemployment supplemental that makes it for many more attractive not to go back to work and Reds who want to reduce it (now more than ever we need politicians who can compromise and not be viewed as caving); Trump is rightfully railing against the practice of mail in voting as 4 men in Los Angeles were just arrested for soliciting mail in ballots from homeless in exchange for cigarettes and small amounts of cash; Herman Cain, the unsuccessful 2016 Republican Presidential candidate, has proved that the COVID-19 has no party affiliation by one month after announcing he had tested positive dying from the virus (immediately the MSM talking heads blamed Trump as Cain had attended a Trump Rally shortly before testing positive; the drug remdesivir is showing great promise for treating CV infected patients but in short supply so Pennsylvania is use a lottery system that is weight to low income patients (if there is a point system it should not be based on income but on whom most likely has the best chance to survive—triage); the American Federation of Teachers, a de facto arm of the DNC, is threatening a “safety strike” if school districts insist on in person classrooms (union totally ignores the data that shows near  zero risk of transmission to or from elementary students but keeping schools closed and parents home instead of working keeps economy in recession and thwarts Trump’s reelection).
Chicago/Baltimore Gun Violence: In Chicago as of July 29, 2020, the number of shootings increased by 21 to 2,300, of whom 405 have died (so much for the defund the police movement and  for the effectiveness of Chicago’s stay at home order and a complete dereliction of duty by Mayor Lightfoot other than swearing at people outraged over the killings); Baltimore with a fraction of Chicago’s population and hoping against all hopes that 2020 will not be a record in terms of deaths but now seems to be shooting less and killing less and is now 212 behind Chicago now at 193 murders (when will Chicago and Baltimore get serious about this carnage or is this the case of true racism as a Blue run city turns a deaf ear and a blind eye to the slaughter of people of color by people of color and when will the left focus on the problem of color on color shootings in Blue run cities which have been more deadly and more numerous than shootings by police or random mass shootings?).
As always, I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, factoids of interest for this day in history,  a musical link to Brandy and Monica, the fact that if you have the time and energy to be pedaneous,  and a quote from Ron Chernow on the New Orleans Massacre of 1866,  secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like Father’s Day, college graduations, birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1. National Support Public Education Day—celebrated since 2010 to support funding for public education which is now under assault due to teachers unions that would abolish charter schools which consistently outperform public schools and leftists that promote Project 1619 that promotes a revisionist view of American history that denigrates this nation.
2. National Whistle Blowers Day—proclaimed by the Senate on this day in 2013 to promote appreciation of whistle blowers and safety from retaliation of whistle blowers who report fraud, criminal behavior or mismanagement in the federal agencies in which they serve.
3. 1998 Number One Song— the number 1 song in 1998 on this day on a run of 13 week was “This Boy Is Mine” by Brandy and Monica in their first number 1 song. Here is a recording of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qSIOp_K5GMw. Absolved of a fatal automobile injury on the 405 on December 30, 2006 but having to settle a series of wrongful death suits arising there from, Brandy is performing strong today. Monica having witnessed a then boyfriend at his brother’s grave site commit suicide in front of her has endured and is still performing strong.
4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “pedaneous” which means going on foot which is something for health reasons we should do more of.
5. I’ll Be Back--celebrating the birth on this day in 1947 of noted weight lifter, actor and politician Arnold Schwarzenegger who legally immigrated from Austria to go on to a career in film and become the Governor of California for two terms with a standing somewhat soiled by revelations of having a love child son with his and his wife Maria Shriver’s housekeeper.
 On this day in:
 a. 1866 in a realization of how far we have come, on this day, armed Confederate veterans and members of the New Orleans police force attacked a parade of unarmed Republicans, mostly black, killing some 50 marchers and wounding another 150 while losing 4 attackers.
 b. 1962 the Trans-Canada Highway, the longest national highway in the world, was officially opened.
 c. 1965 to the joy of seniors everywhere, President Johnson signed the Social Security Act of 1965 establishing Medicare and Medicaid.
 d. 1974 the impeachment smoking bullets were delivered to Congress after SCOTUS ruled that the Watergate tapes be delivered to Congress.
 e. 1975 after a luncheon meeting, Jimmy Hoffa disappears from the parking lot in the Machu Fox Restaurant in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan never to be seen again.
Reflections on the New Orleans Massacres of 1866: “The whites stomped, kicked, and clubbed the black marchers mercilessly. Policemen smashed the institute’s windows and fired into it indiscriminately until the floor grew slick with blood. They emptied their revolvers on the convention delegates, who desperately sought to escape. Some leaped from windows and were shot dead when they landed. Those lying wounded on the ground were stabbed repeatedly, their skulls bashed in with brickbats. The sadism was so wanton that men who kneeled and prayed for mercy were killed instantly, while dead bodies were stabbed and mutilated.”Ron Chernow, Grant (2017)

July 29, 2020 Ridley's Believe It Or Not National Chicken Wings Day

CV World: The CV pandemic across the planet continues with 362,843 new cases  (a 2.17% increase compared to a .93% increase yesterday) to bring the total over 17  million to 17,053,161 cases, 5,817,998   of  which  are active, 11,235,163 of which have been closed with 10,568,710 recoveries (93.99% compared to  yesterday’s 94.07%) and 666,453  deaths (5.93% compared to yesterday’s 6.01%) to continue the trend of increased recovery percentages and decreased mortality percentages.
CV USA: New cases of 141,000 with total cases surging to over 4 million of 4,398,184 (a 3.21% increase compared to yesterday’s .86% increase) with 2,168,068 active cases of which 19,015 (19,100 yesterday) are in serious or critical condition a small decrease, and 2,371,116 closures, 153,153 of which have been deaths (6.46% compared to yesterday’s 6.58%) and 2,217,963 of which  have been recoveries (93.54%  compared to yesterday’s 93.42%) (our death rate percentages continue to improve and are finally in single digits since Cuomo repealed his order sending CV positive patients on May 10 but remain higher than the world probably due to idiots like Cuomo sending positive CV patients into nursing homes to infect the residents and staff who then die and accounted for some 40% of our deaths with   56,684,379 tests (with almost a million more tests from yesterday so much for Biden’s claim of lack of testing by Trump and implications Trump is slowing testing to hide CV increases).
Non CV News: Justice Ginsburg was back in the hospital again for a non surgical procedure but is expected to be back by the end of this week; after Barr was grilled yesterday, today it was the CEO’s turn from Facebook, Amazon, Apple and Google to take the blistering heat from the Blues as being too large and anti-competitive and the Reds were blasting away for  conservatives being censored and support of the Chinese (in the backdrop of Donald Trump, Jr. being suspended by Twitter for tweeting a video of doctors relating their positive experience with hydroxychloroquine); Social Media companies better start reading the tea leaves of anger as a recent poll reveals that 82% of Republicans and 62% of Democrats feel that social media has become too powerful (hate to see government trying to regulate speech but maybe time to reinstitute the “Fairness Doctrine” or mandate access to any speech that does not advocate physical violence); the Oakland City Council, despite Oakland being a very dangerous place in terms of violent crimes and shootings, has unanimously passed a resolution banning federal officers and creating a commission to reduce the police budget by 50 percent (indication of the anti-police views of Oakland revealed by the city of Fremont not responding to mutual aid pact during this weekend’s protests like so many across the country turned into a riot; Mayor Durkan of Seattle has fanned the flames of chaos by ranting that sending federal agents to Trump is a trial run for martial law, a claim for which she was blasted by the head of the Seattle Police Union who said refusing help is unconscionable.
Chicago/Baltimore Gun Violence: In Chicago as of July 28, 2020, the number of shootings increased by 13 to 2,279, of whom 404 have died (so much for the defund the police movement and  for the effectiveness of Chicago’s stay at home order and a complete dereliction of duty by Mayor Lightfoot other than swearing at people outraged over the killings); Baltimore with a fraction of Chicago’s population and hoping against all hopes that 2020 will not be a record in terms of deaths but now seems to be shooting less and killing less and is now 213 behind Chicago now at 191 murders (when will Chicago and Baltimore get serious about this carnage or is this the case of true racism as a Blue run city turns a deaf ear and a blind eye to the slaughter of people of color by people of color and when will the left focus on the problem of color on color shootings in Blue run cities which have been more deadly and more numerous than shootings by police or random mass shootings?).
As always, I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, factoids of interest for this day in history,  a musical link to Puff Daddy and Faith Evans feat 112, the fact that if you would never commit and act of peculation,  and a quote from John Edward Douglas on the arrest of David Berkowitz,  secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like Father’s Day, college graduations, birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1. National Lipstick Day—celebrated since 2017 but used initially by women of royalty class since Mesopotamian times with many more colors than ever before  imagined and used also by some men.
2. National Chicken Wing Day—proclaimed by Buffalo Mayor Stan Makowski in 1977 to honor the creation of this very popular snack by Teressa Bellissimo the co-owner of the Anchor Bar in Buffalo when she deep fried some chicken wings that were normally used to create chicken stock, put some sauce and cayenne pepper on them and fed them to her son and his friends visiting from college. Americans devour some 30 million wings each day but this poet’s full wings that are either the size of a chicken on steroids or a dwarf turkey at Mutt Lynch’s in Newport Beach near the pier.
3. 1997 Number One Song— the number 1 song in 1997 on this day on a run of 1 week was “I’ll Be Missing You” by Puff Daddy and Faith Evans feat. 112 in their first number 1 song. Here is a recording of the song which was their first number 1 song:   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKMtZm2YuBE. Puff Daddy has six children and recently seems to be under Louis Farrakhan. Faith Evans is still performing strong but is perhaps best known for her 1994 marriage to the Notorious B.I.G.  who was gunned down on March 9, 1997 drive by shooting that remains unsolved.
4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “peculation” which means embezzlement which is a breaching crime of trust that often goes on too long before being discovered.
5. Lying in Wait--celebrating the birth on this day in 1938 of Canadian born Peter Jennings who with Tom Brokaw and Dan Rather were the troika of big three MSM news anchors but he also smoked heavily until he quit in his 40’s but made the mistake of lighting up again following 9/11. He announced on his show that he had been diagnosed with lung cancer and did his last show for ABC Evening News on April 1, 2005, notified viewers in a video broadcast on April 5, 2005 that he had be diagnosed with lung cancer and in almost record time in the era of chemotherapy and other treatments died on August 7, 2005.
 On this day in:
a. 1858 the Harris Treaty was signed on the deck of the USS Powhatan, a side wheeler warship, in Endo Bay (Tokyo Bay) that required Japan to open up 5 ports to U.S. ships for trading, granted extra territoriality to foreigners and other trading stipulations.
 b. 1976 David Berkowitz aka the Son of Sam killed and seriously wounded his first victims in a serious of shootings that would end on July 31, 1977 and result in a total of 6 murders and 7 woundings and a total reign of terror in NYC which was put to an end on August 10, 1977 with the icing on the cake of his guilty pleas to all shootings and a sentence 6 life terms and is now at age 67 rotting away at the Shawangunk Correctional Facility, a maximum security prison.
 c. 1981 an estimated 700 million TV viewers watched the wedding of Charles, Prince of Wales, to Lady Diana Spencer in St. Paul’s Cathedral in London.
 d. 1996 the child protection provisions of the Communications Decency Act were struck down by an Appellate Court for being too broad.
 e. 2019 a prison riot broke out at the Altamira Prison in Brazil between members of two rival gangs and when it ended 5 hours later, 16 prisoners had been beheaded and 46 others had died of smoke inhalation.
Reflections on the the Son of Sam murders: “This is often the way crimes get solved- through a side door. The clue that led to New York’s “son of Sam” killings was a parking ticket David Berkowitz was issued for parking his Ford Galaxie too close to a fire hydrant near the site of his final murder”― John Edward Douglas, The Killer Across the Table:Unlocking the Secrets of Serial Killers and Predators with the FBI's Original Mindhunter  Thank God he had a car instead of taking the subway or the NYPD may never have caught him in the days when surveillance cameras were not all pervasive.

July 28, 2020 Ridley's Believe It Or Not World Hepatitis Day

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not July 28, 2020
CV World: The CV pandemic across the planet continues with 153,456 new cases  (a .93%  increase compared to a 1.27% increase yesterday) to bring the total nearing 17  million to 16,690,318 cases, 5,757,418   of  which  are active, 10,932,900 of which have been closed with 10,275,380 recoveries (93.99% compared to  yesterday’s 93.93%) and 657,520  deaths (6.01% compared to yesterday’s 6.06%) to continue the trend of increased recovery percentages and decreased mortality percentages.
CV USA: New cases of 37,642 with total cases surging to over 4 million of 4,398,184 (a .86% increase compared to yesterday’s 1.22% increase) with 2,147,312 active cases of which 19,100 (18,997 yesterday) are in serious or critical condition a small increase, and 2,288,514 closures, 150,528 of which have been deaths (6.58% compared to yesterday’s 6.66%) and 2,137,986 of which  have been recoveries (93.42%  compared to yesterday’s 93.34%) (our death rate percentages continue to improve and are finally in single digits since Cuomo repealed his order sending CV positive patients on May 10 but remain higher than the world probably due to idiots like Cuomo sending positive CV patients into nursing homes to infect the residents and staff who then die and accounted for some 40% of our deaths with 55,805,416 tests (with almost a million more tests from yesterday so much for Biden’s claim of lack of testing by Trump and implications Trump is slowing testing to hide CV increases).
Non CV News: On another front the Chinese reveal they may disregard international law as a massive fishing fleet is approaching the economic zone surrounding the Galapagos Islands; only in America can a disgraced and fired FBI agent Peter Strzok be able to ink a book deal that hopefully none of us will want to read but he has and his book on Trump and Russia will come out just before the election; Nadler was uninjured in a hearing delaying for an hour car crash that did not dampen his attempt to lynch Barr as a lawless AG unconstitutionally dispatching federal agents to cities like Portland that didn’t want them (what Nadler and his fellow hacks can’t accept is that there are damaging riots not peaceful protests exercising 1st Amendment rights in cities like Portland which has endure 61 continuous days of riots); the cancer of riots in Portland continues to metastasize with police battling “protesters” in Tempe and Austin where a BLM carrying an AK-47 like rifle pointed it at a motorist driving to drive through the area and was shot dead by the driver (sane blacks to no avail are saying burning down buildings or attacking police is not going to help black people but the rioters are not listening); on the policing front a South Bend white police officer helps a 12 year old black set up his lemonade stand and matched his sales but in Ridgewood, New Jersey, video of two officers pulling a 15 year old black off his bike and bringing him to the ground (prompting internal affairs review); the DNC is getting a reality check for police as more than 100 police agencies have pulled out of agreements to provide security for the DNC due to restrictions imposed by the leftists on crowd control (fortunately for Sanders supporters who want not to be eating bowls of S—t they are probably not violent);”Fair and Balanced” wins over Bias and Advocacy every time as Fox News Channel for the 49th straight month garners a the Number 1 Cable ranking while the Cack News Network could only place its most ranked show in 13th place (when does CNN tire of Chris Cuomo and his brother Andrew and let Chris go?); the wheels of justice move slowly but with the public help they move as Samantha R. Hamer, 26, and Kerida E. O'Reilly, 33, after being identified as the 2 who brutally attacked State Senator Tim Carpenter filming a violent protest in Madison in June, turned themselves in to face battery charges; Joy Reid demonstrated her stupidity by claiming Antifa did only what its name means anti-fascist like N. Korea is democratic as it has “Democratic” in its name.
Chicago/Baltimore Gun Violence: In Chicago as of July 27, 2020, the number of shootings increased by 15 to 2,266, of whom 398 have died (so much for the defund the police movement and  for the effectiveness of Chicago’s stay at home order and a complete dereliction of duty by Mayor Lightfoot other than swearing at people outraged over the killings); Baltimore with a fraction of Chicago’s population and hoping against all hopes that 2020 will not be a record in terms of deaths but now seems to be shooting less and killing less and is now 208 behind Chicago now at 190 murders (when will Chicago and Baltimore get serious about this carnage or is this the case of true racism as a Blue run city turns a deaf ear and a blind eye to the slaughter of people of color by people of color and when will the left focus on the problem of color on color shootings in Blue run cities which have been more deadly and more numerous than shootings by police or random mass shootings?).
As always, I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, factoids of interest for this day in history,  a musical link to Toni Braxton, the fact that if you are not a peccable person,  and a quote from Willie Perkins on Wakins Glen Summer Jam, secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like Father’s Day, college graduations, birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1. World Hepatitis Day—created by the World Health Association in 2010 to create awareness of the alphabet of Hepatitis A-B-C-D-E and what a person should do to avoid being infected by this potentially deadly disease.
2. World Nature Conservation Day—creating awareness of the need to preserve and use wisely the planet’s natural resources but not who or when created this observance.
3. 1996 Number One Song— the number 1 song in 1996 on this day on a run of 1 week was “You Are Makin Me High” by Toni Braxton in her first number 1 song.  Here is recording of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIgOL21S98o.  This very talented singer has sold some 67 million records and has overcome a false breast cancer diagnosis but a true diagnosis of Lupus.
4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “peccable” which means liable to sin which sadly describes all too well the members of the House and Senate which trait may get worse the greater number of terms a person is serving.
5. Run Till You Die--celebrating the birth on this day in 1958 of Terry Fox who after a leg was amputated in 1977 due to cancer became an avid activist for cancer research and in 1980 declared he would raise money for cancer research with his Marathon of Hope by running across Canada. He started on April 12, 1980 running more that a marathon each day and became a national hero as the money poured in but sadly his dream ended in Thunder Bay, Ontario when it was discovered the cancer had spread to his lungs. His race stopped for good on June 28, 1981 but his memory and fund raising lived on with more than $750 million raised from cancer research in his name.
 On this day in:
 a. 1917 the Silent Parade of some 10,000 African-Americans organized by the NAACP started at 5th Avenue in New York City to march in protest to the murders, lynchings and other violence perpetrated against African- Americans.
 b. 1932 President Hoover ordered that the “Bonus Army” that had been camped out in Washington , D.C. demanding immediate payment of their bonus checks for servicein WWI be paid now be disbursed which Army troops under the command of Douglas MacArthur did.
 c. 1973 an estimated 600,000 music fans entered the Watkins Glen International Speedway  in Watkins Glen, New York to listen to a rock concert.
 d. 1984 the Summer Games of the XXIII Olympiad opened in Los
Angeles which in a tit for tat move, the Soviet Union boycotted in retaliation for the boycott by the U.S. of the Moscow Olympics 4 years earlier.
 e. 2018 Wendy Tuck became the first female skipper to win the Clipper Round the World Race finishing ahead of Nikki Henderson also a female who finished second.
Reflections on the Watkins Glen Summer Jam Festival: “When we first got there we were able to drive in and out of the site, but the road became like Armageddon overnight. It was like there had been a nuclear attack and people had just abandoned their cars.” Willie Perkins, tour manager of the Allman Brothers, one of the bands playing there.

July 27, 2020 Ridley's Believe It Or Not Bagpipe Appreciation Day

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not July 27, 2020
CV World: The CV pandemic across the planet continues with 207,401 new cases  (a 1.27%  increase compared to a 1.57% increase yesterday) to bring the total exceeding 16  million to 16,536,862 cases, 5,755,001   of  which  are active, 10,781,861 of which have been closed with 10,127,772 recoveries (93.93% compared to  yesterday’s 93.89%) and 654,089  deaths (6.06% compared to yesterday’s 6.11%) to continue the trend of increased recovery percentages and decreased mortality percentages.
CV USA: New cases of 52,804 with total cases surging to over 4 million of 4,398,184 (a 1.22% increase compared to yesterday’s 1.46% increase) with 2,146,824 active cases of which 18,997 (18,984 yesterday) are in serious or critical condition a small increase, and 2,251,360 closures, 150,053 of which have been deaths (6.66% compared to yesterday’s 6.73%) and 2,101,307 of which  have been recoveries (93.34%  compared to yesterday’s 93.27%) (our death rate percentages continue to improve and are finally in single digits since Cuomo repealed his order sending CV positive patients on May 10 but remain higher than the world probably due to idiots like Cuomo sending positive CV patients into nursing homes to infect the residents and staff who then die and accounted for some 40% of our deaths with 54,905,485 tests ( with a 1,210,849 more tests from yesterday so much for Biden’s claim of lack of testing by Trump and implications Trump is slowing testing to hide CV increases).
Non CV News: John Lewis’ casket arrived in a hearse at the Capitol and was carried up the steps by all black members of the military into the Rotunda to lie in state (symbolically in Montgomery the casket was transported in a wagon pulled by mules to be carried up the steps of the Capitol by mostly white Alabama State Troopers); hundreds of Sanders delegates sign petition they will vote against any Blue platform that does not contain  “Medicare for All”; in Seattle, with Mayor Durkan immobilized by her loss of the “Summer of Love” at CHAZ/CHOP, another day of riots with police attacked by rioters throwing rocks, wood, bottles and explosives at the police injuring 59 (when will the spineless leftist governor finally say enough is enough and send in his National Guard before more people and officers start getting killed); Michigan under Witless Whitmer is in the unfavorable news with the Michigan Supreme Court slamming the treasurer of Oakland County for seizing a 74 year old’s home for unpaid taxes of $8.41 and then selling it and trying to keep the  $24,500 in proceeds from the sale (sadly Michigan is not alone in its rapacious laws as more than a dozen states); Austin police released the suspect driving his car that was attacked by BLM protesters and who in response to Garret Foster pointing an AK-47 like rifle at him shot and killed him and sped away as his car was being shot at (King and soon to be Lewis must be rolling in their graves over the hijacking of nonviolence by BLM protesters that advanced the cause of Civil Rights); the WH and Senate Republicans are proposing to cut the $600 a week extra unemployment benefits to $200 a week (watch for the outrage of the Blues but candidly $600 a week bonus for not working is a great incentive while it lasts to not go back to work); noncitizens are not allowed to vote or receive federal benefits and one would think that the Census should not count aliens for purposes of assigning House seats but the left continues to think otherwise; riots like cancers if not suppressed metastasize as the nightly riots in Portland have spread to Eugene with rioters pointing guns at drivers, launching fireworks at a brewery and attacking businesses (no federal agents there so Oregon Governor cannot use the spineless Wheeler excuse that riots are caused by presence of federal agents protecting federal property).
Chicago/Baltimore Gun Violence: In Chicago as of July 26, 2020, the number of shootings increased by 17 to 2,241, of whom 395 have died (so much for the defund the police movement and  for the effectiveness of Chicago’s stay at home order and a complete dereliction of duty by Mayor Lightfoot other than swearing at people outraged over the killings); Baltimore with a fraction of Chicago’s population and hoping against all hopes that 2020 will not be a record in terms of deaths but now seems to be shooting less and killing less and is now 206 behind Chicago now at 189 murders (when will Chicago and Baltimore get serious about this carnage or is this the case of true racism as a Blue run city turns a deaf ear and a blind eye to the slaughter of people of color by people of color and when will the left focus on the problem of color on color shootings in Blue run cities which have been more deadly and more numerous than shootings by police or random mass shootings?).
As always, I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, factoids of interest for this day in history,  a musical link to TLC, the fact that if you are not a pavid person,  and a quote from Wilhelm Keitel on WWII and the Geneva Convention, secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like Father’s Day, college graduations, birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1. Gary Gygax Day—created by his fans after his death on March 4, 2008 to honor the noted game creator and author and co-creator of the immensely popular Dungeons and Dragons. Given the stay at home orders we have had to endure, having access to games like Dungeons and Dragon has to be a great way to keep one’s sanity.
2. Bagpipe Appreciation Day—celebrating a musical instrument that has been played since Mesopotamian times and has been and is used in war (imagine the fear arising if you were a soldier peering into the fog and hearing that eerie sound approaching knowing it was accompanied by large numbers of soldiers), funerals (hard to find someone who can hold back tears at a funeral when “Amazing Grace” is being played), during parades or in bars and taverns during St. Patrick’s Day.
3. 1995 Number One Song— the number 1 song in 1995 on this day on a run of 7 weeks was “Waterfalls” by TLC in their first number 1 song.  Here is recording of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WEtxJ4-sh4 .  This 3 all female group was founded in Atlanta in 1991 and had great success in the 90’s but went into a hiatus after one of its members Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes was killed in Honduras in a traffic accident but surviving two members Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas continued as a duet and are still performing today.
4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “pavid” which means timid which describes our politicians when facing issues surrounding entitlement programs like Social Security or Medicare.
5. Asylum for the Soul Not the Body--celebrating the birth on this day in 1963 of Karl Mueller, noted bass guitarist and founding member of the Minneapolis alternative rock band Soul Asylum who as a long time smoker was diagnosed with throat cancer in May, 2004 and died from cancer on June 17, 2005 at age 42.
 On this day in:
 a. 1929 to the relief of all combatants present or in the future who might be captured or wounded during wartime 53 nations signed the Geneva Convention of 1929 that went into effect on June 17, 1931.
 b. 1964 in our slow walk to the disaster of what would be known as the Vietnam War another 5,000 military advisers were to be sent to South Vietnam, bringing the total of our forces to 21,000 by year end.
 c. 1974 the House Judiciary Committee voted 27-11 with 6 Republicans joining all 21 Democrats in favor of the 1st Article of Impeachment, obstruction of justice, casting a clear signal that the end of the Nixon Presidency would soon most likely be coming to an end and whose vote should have been a lesson to the totally partisan impeachment of Trump without a single Republican vote.
 d. 1995 the Korean War Veterans Memorial was dedicated to those who fought in the “Forgotten War.”
 e. 1996 a pipe bomb planted by Eric Rudolph at the Atlanta Summer Olympics exploded in Centennial Olympic Park, killing 1 and injuring 111 others. Rudolph was later caught and to avoid the death penalty pled guilty and was sentenced to 4 consecutive life sentences as is now rotting away in a Federal Supermax Prison.
Reflections on the Geneva Convention: “This war no longer has anything to do with knightly conduct or with the agreements of the Geneva Convention.” Wilhelm Keitel, Oberkommando der Wehrmacht and convicted of war crimes at Nuremberg and executed by hanging on October 16, 1946
