Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For October 12, 2019 The construction
rocks at the Hard Rock Café construction site in New Orleans must not have been
in place along with the foundation and beams as the Hard Rock Café in New
Orleans under construction came crashing down https://www.foxnews.com/us/new-orleans-hard-rock-hotel-collapses-injuries,
killing one and injuring 18 (looks like what one would expect in third world
country but not here); first Bozo O’Rourke was coming to get your guns; now he
is coming to get your crosses as he demands churches that oppose same sex
marriages lose their 501(c)(3) charitable exemption (wonder how this idiot
feels about mosques that advocate throwing gays and lesbians off buildings);
the “whistleblower” whose lawyers admitted that he had conversations with Blue
presidential candidates and that he wanted to testify if writing as opposed to
appearing in person (of course he or she does so questions of bias and possible
collusion can be avoided); Fiona Hill, a former White House assistant who
worked under departed John Bolton is going to appear before Schiff’s committee
to hopefully shed any light, hopefully unbiased, on the extent of her prepping
Trump before his phone call with Ukraine’s President; Elizabeth Warren on the
warpath against banks and social media giants has published a fake news ad on
Facebook to the effect that Zuckerberg had endorsed Trump which he has not to
slam its policy of not applying its terms of service to politician’s ads; the
Thin Black Line that seems on border security fighting Trump tooth and nail has
handed down ruling banning Trump’s ban on green card issuance to those likely
to go on welfare (short memories of the policies at Ellis Island that required
immigrants to prove they would not be a public assistance burden); Grammy
winner Zedd is providing evidence of a Silk Curtain from China banning external
criticism of its repressive regime from reaching its people as he was
supposedly banned from China for supporting a critical “South Park” tweet
(almost just like the wrath the NBA got hit with when a GM criticized China and
another wakeup call that this government is not our friend but sworn existential
enemy); on the PG&E front, the company was bookended first with 800,000
customers losing power due to high winds and the threat of fires that drove PG&E
into bankruptcy and second a Bankruptcy Court ruling that could mean the
shareholders of the company will be wiped out (true to form our leftist
governor blasted the company for decades of greed placing profits before safety
as if a government owned public utility could do a better and safer job); in
Chicago through October 11, 2019, 2187 have been shot, of whom, 375 have died but
no one on the 11th in a minor miracle; in Baltimore with a fraction
of Chicago’s population, 267 have been murdered in Baltimore (when will Chicago
and Baltimore get serious about this carnage or is this the case of true racism
as a Blue run city turns a deaf ear and a blind eye to the slaughter of people
of color by people of color and when will the left focus on the problem of
color on color shootings in Blue run cities which have been more deadly and
more numerous than random mass shootings?
As always, I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and
observances, factoids of interest for this day in history, a musical link
to Bobby Darin, the fact that you are deemed by your friends to be
prefulgent and a relevant quote on Christopher Columbus by Allison
Robicelli, secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any
memorable events like Father’s Day, college graduations, birthdays, weddings,
or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique

1. Freethought Day—celebrated
by atheists and secularists on this day which the anniversary of the letter by
the Governor of Massachusetts in 1692 to the Privy Council in London that the
trials end.
2. Columbus Day—celebrating the discovery of North
America by Christopher Columbus on this day in 1492 almost 500 years after the
Vikings landed in North America but which today in our politically correct
culture is being downgraded because of what Europeans did to the Native Indian
population.
3. 1959 Number One Song— the number
one song in 1959 on this day on a run of 9 weeks (not continuous) in the
position was “Mack the Knife” by Bobby Darin. Here is a recording of the song
live on the “Andy Williams Show in 1970: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uiGFZUnJgqU
This incredibly talented singer songwriter suffered from rheumatic fever as a
child and after contracting sepsis following a dental visit prior to which he
failed to take antibiotics, he died under the surgeon’s knife on December 20,
1973.
4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “prefulgent”
which means extremely bright a trait that most of our politicians find themselves
extremely lacking save in how to sell their souls for campaign donations and
still dodge the quid pro quo.
5. Davy Crocket Lives On In Song--celebrating the
birth on this day in 1941 of French singer Jean-Francois Grandin better known
to his fans as Frank Alamo in tribute to John Wayne’s portrayal of Davy Crocket
in The Alamo and who sang in French
and English but whose Alamo walls were breached in 2012 on day before his 71st
birthday of Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
On this day in:
a. 1810
to the joy of future beer drinkers worldwide the citizens of Munich declared
the first Ockoberfest.
b. 1945
Corporal Desmond Doss whose exploits are portrayed in the movie Hacksaw Ridge became the first
conscientious objector to win the Medal of Honor for saving 75 men during the
Battle of Okinawa; he could not save himself from old age and died in 2006 at 87.
c.
1983 Japanese Prime Minister Tanaka Kakuei was convicted of taking a $2 million
bribe from Lockheed Corporation and sentenced to 4 years in prison but remained
free on appeal until his death in 1993.
d. 2002 jihadist terrorists detonated
a suicide bomb at the Sari Club in Bali, killing 202 tourists and wounding some
300; after protracted legal proceedings the three plotters punched their one
way ticket to Paradise in front of a firing squad on November 9, 2008.
e. 2017 angered by perceived anti-Semitism
in UNESCO, the United States announced its intentions to withdraw from UNESCO
which withdrawal was then followed by Israel.
Reflections
on Columbus Day the celebration of which in our growing PC culture seems to be
fading away: “Fellow Italians: stop getting all bent out of shape about
Christopher Columbus getting the same treatment as the Confederates. He was a
horrible man, a horrible representative for our people, and not that special.
Any asshole can get lost in a boat.”― Allison Robicelli, noted
Italian-American cookbook and travel author Maybe so but given the man credit
for not having the crew mutiny as land seemed further away each day.
