Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For March 2, 2019 President Trump was
in rare form for a two hour speech at CPAC really unloading on the Democrats, MSM,
the Mueller witch-hunt, Cohen and especially AOC’s Green New Deal which he
hopes the Blues back as it will make it easier for him to win in 2020 and
touting his economic achievements; the Iditarod front, the 900+ mile race starts from Anchorage today;
Pakistan has released the Indian pilot it shot down over the skies of Kashmir
and reopened train service between the two countries as the tension between the
two nations may be calming down; Rashida Tlaib the anti-Semite Blue may be in
more hot water as her campaign paid her $17,500 after the midterms which is a
violation of federal election laws; the Northern Rockies, Plains, Midwest and
Northeast are being hit by an arctic cold front bringing with it freezing
temperatures; on the political correctness front the Student Bar Association of
the University of South Dakota Law School had to change its Hawaiian Day
festivities to Beach Day to be more inclusive (PC police patrols never end); the
Cack News Network was slammed by a conservative group The Faction for its minuscule coverage of the U.S. North Korea Summit on a billboard across the
street from CNN’s headquarters in Hollywood that labled CNN the “Communist News
Headquarters” and featured a phrase “Keep Korea divided” with an asterisk that
read “because OrangeManBad”; The
Washington Post has published an editorial note trying to extricate itself
from the defamation lawsuit filed by Covington students, prompting a response from
the lawyer representing the plaintiffs of “Too little, too late.”
As always, I hope you
enjoy today’s holidays and observances, a music link to Evelyn Knight and
the Stardusters, factoids of interest for this day in history, the fact
you are not subject to oscitancy and a relevant quote from Richard Branson on
the future of air travel, secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any
memorable events like college graduations, birthdays, weddings,
or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a
unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the
recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1. International Open Data Day—celebrated first in 2010 to promote
awareness of open data and to encourage the release of open data.
2. International Rescue Cat
Day—created
this year to promote the need to take in homeless cats.
3. 1948 Number One Song— the number one song on this day in 1949 on a run of 7 weeks
in that position was “A Little Bird Told Me” by Evelyn Knight and the
Stardusters. Here is a recording of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oe9RwAFVn9U
4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day as we move from words beginning with
“n” to words beginning with “o” is “oscitancy” which means sleepiness
probably the result of a lousy mattress or pillow.
5. The Right Stuff—celebrating the birth on this day in 1931 of noted journalist
and author Tom Wolfe best known for The
Right Stuff and The Bonfires of the Vanities who wrote his
last word on May 14, 2018.
On this day
in:
a. 1961 President Kennedy announced the creation of the Peace
Corps.
b. 1969 the first flight of the Anglo-French Concorde was
conducted.
c. 1983 after being released previously in Japan, compact discs
were introduced in the U.S.
d. 1989 due to the adverse impact on the ozone layer, 12
European Community nations agreed to halt the production of chlorofluorocarbons
by the end of the century.
e. 1995 Yahoo was incorporated.
Reflections the
next generation of rapid air travel: “We will be producing supersonic planes
which will go far, far faster than Concordes. New York to Tokyo could be less
than an hour. You could be traveling at 19,000 miles an hour orbitally.”
Richard Branson founder of Virgin Airlines. That assumption assumes the Green
New Deal espoused by AOC goes nowhere.
