March 16, 2019 Ridley's Believe It Or Not Freedom of Information Day

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For March 16, 2019 New Zealand is still reeling from the 2 mosque shootings that killed 49 people and in the U.S. the left is attacking Trump who is claimed to have been responsible for inciting this lunatic now in custody (what a total travesty by the left); AOC may be the poster child for the Progressive radicals of the Democratic Party but her negative ratings are soaring as she is replacing Nancy Pelosi as the lightning rod that will drive Republicans and Independents to the polls (every time she opens her mouth she makes a total fool of herself); Australian Senator Fraser Anning who has blamed Muslim immigration for the shooting in Christchurch hit a teenager in the face twice when the boy egged him; Santa Anita has experienced the death of 22 thoroughbreds since December 26th causing it to suspend racing and is now the subject of a criminal investigation which the track is apparently welcoming; Bozo O’Rorke is eating crow over his jokes about his wife and his white privilege on the campaign trail (what does this media darling believe in and what has he accomplished?—0);  Chelsea Clinton was on the receiving end of a leftist student harangue at NYU over her remarks castigating IIhan Omar implying the Clinton had stoked the mosque shootings in New Zealand; Elizabeth Warren is on the warpath advocating the breakup of big tech and promoting increasing taxes on the wealthy; the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee is on the horns of a dilemma whether to legislate infrastructure projects or investigate Trump’s D.C. Hotel; as of March 15, 2019 332 people have been shot in Chicago of whom 56 have died.
As always, I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, a music link to Percy Faith and His Orchestra, factoids of interest for this day in history, the fact reality of its failed philosophy will overhaile AOC’s failed ideas of sociialism; a relevant quote from Hamish du Bretton-Gordon on the poison gas and nerve gas attack on the Kurds, secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like college graduations, birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1. Freedom of Information Day—celebrating the need for transparency in our federal, state or local governments and celebrated on the birthday of James Madison one of the authors of the Constitution and Bill of Rights. We would still be in the dark over the corruption at the senior levels of the FGI without the existence of FOIA.
2. Black Press Day—proclaimed by President Jimmy Carter on the 150th anniversary of the publication of the first black owned press, Freedom Journal, on this  day in 1827.
3. 1960 Number One Songthe number one song on this day in 1960 on a run of 9 weeks in that position was “Theme from a Summer Place” by Percy Faith and His Orchestra. Here is a recording of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSsiS-v6_6M Percy often pictured on his album covers with a cigarette  in his hand  died of cancer at age 67 on February 9, 1976.
4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day as we move from words beginning with “n” to words beginning with “o” is “overhaile” which means to overtake which we hope reality of the failed philosophy of socialism does with Rep. AOC.
5. Elegance in a Clothe Coat—celebrating the birth on this day in 1912 of former first lady who as a heavy smoker all her life, died of lung cancer at the age of 81.
On this day in:
a. 1985 Associated Press Terry Anderson was taken hostage in Beirut, Lebanon and released on December 4, 1991.
b. 1988 Saddam Hussein ordered the attack of the Kurdish town of Hakabham Iraq with gas and nerve gas, killing 5,000 and injuring 10,000 others.
c. 1995 in a what took you so long moment, Mississippi became the last state to ratify the 13th Amendment which had been ratified by the requisite number of states in 1865.
d. 2001 Jin Rachao, angry with his ex-wife, ex-mother in—law and ex-lover, blew up 4 buildings in short order in Shijiazhuang, Hebei, China, killing 108 people and wounding 38 in the largest mass non state murder in China. He was caught after a huge manhunt and executed along with 3 others who had provided him with explosives.
e. 2005 Israel officially hands over control of Jericho to the Palestinians.
Reflections on use of poison gas an nerve gas on the Kurds: “It is highly likely that without that no-fly zone, we would have seen millions of Iraqi Kurd refugees in Europe, as Saddam was bent on their extermination, which began with the Anfal campaign of the 1980s, and is synonymous with the poisonous gas attack on Halabja in 1988.” Hamish de Bretton-Gordon, noted chemical weapons adviser to NGOs
