April 2, 2018 Ridley's Believe It Or Not World Autism Day

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For April 2, 2018 On the women’s basketball front the seemingly invincible UConn Huskies were defeated with a three point buzzer beater by Notre Dame to win the Women’s NCAA Championship; another story of how violent our society has become or as the facts may develop another example of how too many people are not assimilating—in Memphis a 17 year old black male allegedly shoplifted a beer and left the store prompting 28 year old clerk Anwar Ghazali to follow him outside the store and shoot him on Thursday in the leg but never reported the crime or the shooting and the victim was found bled out on Saturday leading to first degree murder (ethnicity and immigration status not yet revealed but the name indicates Muslim); on the rabid liberal PC front Arcata, CA is moving closer to tearing down a statue of William McKinley because it offends Native Americans (when will this elimination of our history like the Stalinistic practices of airbrushing opponents of Stalin out of photos end) assuming a referendum on the issue does not reach the voters to tell the leftist city council to take a hike; Roger Sherman best known for his inane impeachment attempts and Shawn Nelson, vice chairman of the Orange County Supervisors who have opted out of California’s Sanctuary Law debated the effect of a census question asking for immigration status (wish I would have seen it as the hysteria by the left on this question which doesn’t go to ICE is incredible unless the left is concerned illegals won’t participate so the state will get less representatives that vote Blue and less money which the illegals should not be receiving in any event); on the injustice front, Ethan Couch the 16 year old who killed 4 people in a DUI and received only probation because his parents’ affluent splurging on him made it impossible for him to determine right from wrong but violated that gift by fleeing to Mexico and put in jail for 2 years will be released today to the outrage of MADD and the families of the victims (my money is on the bet that this kid will violate the terms of parole and be back in jail soon); in Chicago through Easter Sunday 532 people mostly minorities have been shot of whom 94 have died including one on Easter breaking a two day period of shootings but no deaths.
As always, I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, a music link to Stevie Wonder, factoids of interest for this day in history, a day being mabsoot, a relevant quote by Stephen Hatfill on an anthrax investigation that Mueller and Comey totally botched, secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1. International Children’s Book Daycelebrated since 1967 on or about the birthday of Hans Christian Andersen on this day in 1807 to encourage and promote reading among youth as the earlier a child learns and loves to read the longer he or she will develop that habit into teen years and in to adulthood.
2. World Autism Awareness Day—created by the UN General Assembly as one of the four UN Health Days to bring autism organizations together to promote research, awareness and acceptance of those afflicted with this neurological variance.
3. 1950 Number One Song— the number one song in 1950 on a run of 4 weeks in that position was “(Put A Nickel In) Music Music Music” by Teresa Brewer. Here is a recording of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gUNZAmFfKA This prolific recorder of some 600 songs in her career ran out of nickels and died in 2007 at the age of 76
4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “mabsoot” which means happy which unfortunately ICE is not as words of a large caravan of “refugees” are heading unhindered through Mexico toward our porous southern border.
5. 21 And Still Singing Strong--celebrating the birth on this day in 1947 of Emmy Lou Harris, noted country western, bluegrass throaty singer who is still going strong with 21 albums to her credit and many gigs with the likes of Bob Dylan, Dolly Parton and Linda Ronstadt.
       On this day in:
a. 1973 Lexis Nexis, the first computerized legal research service was launched to the joys of law firm librarians struggling to keep up with the volume of reported cases in hard bound books.
b. 1979 in a reminder of how deadly biological weapons can be at a Soviet biological weapons facility in Sverdlovsk accidentally released airborne anthrax spores killing 66 people and an unknown number of cattle.
c. 1992 John Gotti, the Teflon Don and head of the Gambino Mafia Family was convicted of racketeering and 5 murders and ultimately sentenced to 5 life sentences without possibility of parole which proved to be reasonably short as he died of throat cancer (for his victims’ sake too bad the cancer from his smoking did not appear sooner) in prison in 2002.
d. 2012 a 43 year old former student attacked Oikos College, a Korean Christian college near Oakland, killing 7 and wounding 3 with a 45 pistol. He was initially ruled incompetent to stand trial but after being confined and on drugs he was indicted and pled guilty and is now serving 7 consecutive life sentences which means he will die in prison.
e. 2015 4 Islamist gunmen attacked Garissa University College in Kenya taking 700 students hostage and after freeing Muslims started killing Christians when the dust cleared with police and security forces storming the College and punching the terrorists’ tickets to their false Paradise, 150 had been killed and 78 wonded.
Reflections on the integrity of Mueller and Comey over an anthrax cased that wrongfully pursued an innocent man who recovered almost $5 million from the FBI with Mueller at its head and in charge of the investigation: “I want to look my fellow Americans directly in the eye and declare to them, 'I am not the anthrax killer.' I know nothing about the anthrax attacks. I had absolutely nothing to do with this terrible crime.” Stephen Hatfill This man’s career was destroyed because like the false anti-Trump dossier Mueller and Comey made the ridiculous jump that because the drug dogs responded like most dogs do when they were petted Hatfill had anthrax residue on his hands.
