Ridley's Believe It Or Not For February 16, 2016 National Innovation Day

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For February 16, 2016. Unfortunately, still 339 days to go in President Obama’s pathetic lame duck term but fortunately only 16 days until the start of the Iditarod, the Last Great Race on Earth. Interesting theater at the Grammy Awards last night with Taylor Swift taking it to Kanye West, that uncouth ill-mannered artist, and displaying her great musical talents. I trust your Tuesday is off to a great start and even if you were not romantic enough to have ordered a customized poem from the Alaskanpoet, your Valentine’s Day was a great one.    As always, I hope  you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, a music link to Paul Simon, factoids of interest, a relevant quote by Taylor Swift from last night’s Grammy Awards, looking forward to enjoying some almonds, blessed with a positive attitude and  secure in  the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like birthdays, weddings, or  anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem  at a great price  tailored to the event and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1. Shining Star Day—bemoaning the birthday on this day in 1941 of Kim Jong-il who had the misfortune of bringing the current dictator of North Korea, Kim Jong-un, into this world. Definitely not a shining star for humanity as his people starve.
2. National Innovation Dayhonoring and promoting the creative genius of our youth to innovate and bring new product ideas to market.
3. 1976 Number One Song—celebrating the number one song in 1976 on a run of three weeks in that position 50 Ways To Leave Your Lover by Paul Simon. Here is a link to Paul Simon performing 50 Ways To Leave Your Lover: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=298nld4Yfds
4. National Almond Day—pleasing the American craving for nuts either alone or in candy bars or rocky road ice cream.
5. AND THE BEAT GOES ONcelebrating the birthday on this day in 1935 of Sonny Bono of Sonny and Cher fame who went on to being elected to the House of Representatives and while there was instrumental in extending the life of copyrights before dying in a skiing accident by running into a tree at the age of 62.
On this day in:
a. 1804 Stephen Decatur led a raid in Tripoli to successfully burn the USS Philadelphia previously captured by the Barbary Pirates.
b. 1923 Howard Carter uncovered the burial chamber of Pharaoh Tutankhamen.
c. 1937 to the joy of women around the globe, Wallace H. Carothers received a patent for nylon.
d. 2005 the Kyoto Protocol takes effect with the ratification by Russia.
e. 2006 the last mobile army surgical hospital (MASH) was decommissioned by the U.S. Army.
Reflections from Taylor Swift from last night’s Grammy Award while accepting her award for Best Album of the Year:”I want to say to all the young women out there: there are going to be people along the way who will try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame. But if you just focus on the work and you just focus on the work and you don’t let those people sidetract you, someday when you get where you’re going, you’ll look around and you will know that it was you and the people who love you who put you there. And that will be the greatest feeling in the world.” Taylor is a class act and West is a complete fool.
