1. Appreciate Your Social Security Check Day —commemorating the first person, Ida May Fuller, to receive a Social Security check in the amount of $22.54 ($375.20 in today’s dollars) on this day in 1940. Hopefully with the Baby Boomers retiring in massive numbers this observance will continue to be observed if D.C. addresses the problems with the Social Security Trust Fund.
2. Inspire Your Heart With Art Day—commemorating the power art has to move one’s emotions but in the rhythmic of the day perhaps better to Warm Your Home With A Framed Poem Day.
3. 2000 Number One Song—celebrating the number one song on this day in 2000 as part of only a 3 week run I Knew I Loved You by Savage Garden, a pop duo out of Australia.
4. National Hot Chocolate Day—great drink to enjoy especially if you are in the midst of another blizzard in the Midwest and Northeast.
5. Loyalty Day—celebrating the birthday on this day in 1931 of Ernie Banks aka as “Mr. Cub” who played all of his 19 seasons in the major leagues with the Chicago Cubs and who despite his great talent never moved to another club to get a chance to go to the World Series and sadly died 8 days ago.

a. 1747 the first venereal diseases clinic was opened in London.
b. 1865 Congress passed the 13th Amendment to the Constitution abolishing slavery and submitted it to the states for ratification.
c. 1930 3M began marketing Scotch tape; wrapping gifts would now become easier than ever.
d. 1968 in Vietnam, the Tet Offensive was launched which militarily to the Viet Cong was an unmitigated disaster but politically was a great success as it resulting in the beginning of the end of American involvement in Vietnam.
e. 2010 Avatar became the first film in history to gross over $2 billion worldwide. Reflections on Social Security and potential comfort for those just starting into the work force: “Social security cannot stop due to the large scale human dependence on the program for basic needs.
