1. World Marriage Day—started by the World Marriage Encounter to honor a husband and wife as the foundation of the family; sadly a lot of social and income issues in minority communities can be traced to children being born out of wedlock.
2. Autism Sunday—first observed in England in 2002 to create awareness of autism and Asperger syndrome (which Putin may have). 3. 2008 Number One Song—celebrating the number one song on this day in 2008 as part of a 10 week run Low by T-Pain, a rapper and winner of two Grammy Awards.
4. National Molasses Bar Day—celebrating the thick gooey residue created by boiling sugar cane to extract sugar and used to sweeten foods and make rum.
5. Why We Need Fewer Lawyers Day—celebrating not what should be blatantly obvious but rather the birthday on this day in 1955 of bestselling author John Grisham who true to his legal roots bases his novels in the legal genre.
On this day in
a. 1865 voters in Delaware, the first state to ratify the Constitution in a less than stellar vote, refused to ratify the 13th Amendment abolishing slavery (finally the light bulb went on and in 1901 they voted in favor of ratification).
b. 1910 the Boy Scouts of America was incorporated by William Boyce.
c. 1960 the first 8 brass plaques on the Hollywood Walk of Fame were installed.
d. 1971 NASDAQ, the world’s first electronic stock exchange, opened for business and began trading stocks.
e. 1996 the then largest internet collaboration event 24 Hours in Cyberspace took place with the “inventor of the internet” Al Gore posting an introductory essay on the impact of the internet on education, environment and communication among humanity.
